Since the Brewers have entered the NL, this has turned into a nice little rivalry. I don’t hate the Brewers the way I do against the Cardinals. With both teams living in such close proximity to each other, it has been a rivalry that has been built on respect, rather than venom.
Friday’s game features Rich Harden against Braden Looper. In the early stages of the season, Lou decided that he didn’t want to start any leftys against them. Is he more concerned with what Ryan Braun could do than Fielder?
Piniella’s philosophy last year was to win series, one at a time. They got off to a good start with 2 wins in Houston. Let’s hope for two out of three in Milwaukee.

I know it’s early and there is no reason to panic…but here we have another effective Dick Harden outing, complete with 10k’s…and a bullpen that wilts…seems eerily familiar, yes?

I don’t believe Gregg is the best option. Hell, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Kerry Woods performance last year and I still had more confidence in him than I do in Gregg. I really don’t know what the fuck to think anymore. Yes, I know it’s only the forth game and there are 158 more to go. But if this is any indication of what the coming season is going to look like, I may just look up FroDog and see what he is doing. Because I won’t watch another trainwreck, that much is certain.
By the way ksmc, AMA superbike races are June 4-7 at Road America. I just ordered my superticket yesterday. If you go up there, I’ll be between turns 7 and 8, right before the Snap-On bridge, probably somewhere near a telephone pole that was put there when dinosaurs roamed the area. I’ll be there all 4 days, hoping not to drown like we have the last two years.

I’m not impressed with Gregg either. Looks like the only way that he can close out a game is if the Cubs have a 3 run lead. If he continues to suck, Piniella could flip him and Marmol, but Gregg will just fuck the game up in the 7th or 8th. I knew that if the batting order came back around to Braun, the game was lost.

Good win for the Cubs, but that bullpen needs repair. Soriano hit that to the moon!! Marmol got fatass to strikeout, that is always a plus. Good game.

Marmol was disappointed when he lost the shot at being the closer. With tonights performance, he may have earned it back. Gregg should be in middle relief until he can figure out how to throw strikes. When Guzman walked two in the 7th and was replaced with Cotts, who walked the only batter he faced to load the bases, I thought Lou was going to blow. He was so pissed off that he sent Rothschild out to yank Cotts. If Pinella had to go get Cotts, he would have bitch-slapped him all the way to the dugout. Yes Dave, this bullpen needs alot of help.

This game has been all about the walks tonight, even on the Brewers side. Looks like Bradley is on his way to the DL with a groin strain. AND AN AMAZING CATCH BY REED JOHNSON TO ROB FIELDER OF A GRAND SLAM!! Yet another ugly baseball game in progress.

Hey, at least he got the job done tonight. Non save situation though. It seems every closer we get seems to make us nervous and hateful to them. I think my buddy said it right that closing pitchers are the quarterbacks of baseball.
Back to back series wins, despite some ugly games. Home opener tomorrow, at Wrigley, or as some of you call it, “the Loser’s Shrine.”

I thought there was no way he was gonna catch that ball. What a game changer. I think he out did himself compared to the catch he made in Washington last year.
What a strange game it was. That has to be the first time I saw four bases loaded walks in the same inning. All in all, it was a good road trip to start the season at 4-2.

Until Hendry fixes this thing he calls a bullpen, get ready for another stressfull summer. We all knew the problems of this team for the last couple years. Only one reliable reliever and the rest is trash. The offense doesnt seem to be a problem so far. So Hendry has time now to fix it or the same old shit all over again.

Good performance by the pitching staff tonight. I was hoping for a Lily no-no but it was not to be. Still not a great offensive effort but we let those walks clog the bases to get another run or two. Soriano seems to be on a hot streak with two base hits today, showing he can get on base by use of the walk and the small ball, as well as hit the long ball. Geo Soto expected to return to the starting lineup on Wednesday. But Aram and Bradley are day to day.
Time to mash some Marquis!!

Great game for Lilly. He pitched the same way he did down the stretch last year. I started thinking no-hitter after the fourth, he had that good of shit going on. He was hitting his spots and the weather conditions were keeping the ball in the park.
Gregg still makes me nervous as hell, but he did fare better on Monday. He walked one, but struck out the side with no runs scored. I was concerned to find out that Piniella didn’t find out until Saturday that he cannot warm Gregg up in the bullpen without using him immediately when he’s ready to go. His surgically repaired knee tightens up if he isn’t used right away. There must be a lack of communication between Lou and his fucked up pitching coach and trainer. Shouldn’t Lou have known of this early in spring training?

ksmc, regarding the lack of communication: if Lawrence Rothschild and the trainers had done a better job, perhaps Kerry Wood and Mark Prior would still be pitching for the Cubs (?)…and effectively. I would be happy to see Rothschild go when Hendry is fired, and barring a WS title this year I’d like to see Hendry gone. New ownership is — supposedly — on the doorstep and it’s a good time to clean house, because the stench is almost unbearable. I hope we don’t all need gas masks before this season is over.
A little more on Wood: even though I’ve ragged on him in the past, I never questioned his heart and I believe he would wanted to stay with the Cubs. Transitioning from starter to closer is challenging and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wood have a better year than last now that he’s had a full season of experience closing. I wish him well.
I still say that Rothschild, O’Neal and Dusty did more damage than good to Wood, Prior and others. But Hendry should be held accountable in the end as he sat back and allowed it to happen.

I saw the highlights of Cleveland’s game from Sunday I believe. Woody got his first save using that filthy slider that we had grown accustomed to. He sure looked strange in that Indians uniform though.
