So much to discuss…

by

Wow. What a weekend and there are a lot of things that need to be discussed so I will try to make this thread short.

1. First of all, I want to thank all of you once again for migrating over here. I am really glad that this place is getting a lot of visits and you guys are posting daily. I promise not to dissapoint!

2. The Cubs take two out of three from the Pirates as I discussed on Friday as what was being expected from this team. I was at the game on Sunday and it was electric. I know some of you are boycotting Wrigley and I understand. However, I love going to a baseball game no matter who is playing. I love the game and it helps me get away from things that bother me away from the Cubs.

    Fro Dog,

Did you have seats behind home plate like you did towards the end of the 06 season? I remember seeing you holding up the “FIRE HENDRY” sign just as the pitcher was going into his windup. I watched that several times on MLB-TV. Classic!!!

  2. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

No I didn’t. I was about eight rows behind the Cubs dugout in the box seats. I got lucky that year because no one else was sitting in that area and I was fortunate enough to get seats behind home plate.

One thing the Cubs could really do to help the bullpen without doing anything is to have the starters pitch more efficiently-i.e. GO FURTHER WITH YOUR PITCH COUNTS!

For example, Cubs win Saturday 5-1. Lilly throws 111 pitches in 6.1 innings. The same day the Brewers win 4-2 with Sabathia throwing about the same amount of pitches (108) but getting 8.1 innings out of those pitches. The Brewers needed only their closer to finish out the game-Torres throwing 12 pitches for the save. The Cubs on the other hand had to use Gaudin (7 pitches), Howry (16) and Marmol (22). 45 pitches 2.2 innings pitched and 3 pitchers used out of your bullpen versus 1 pitcher, 12 pitches, and only .2 innings for Milwaukee’s bullpen. The Cubs used two of those pitchers again on Sunday and Gaudin pissed his pants. Granted, Gaudin only threw 7 pitches Saturday but his workload has been steadily increasing. We need to not have our best relievers out there EVERY DAY or EVERY RELATIVELY CLOSE game.

Now, this is just one game, but the Cubs have had more games like this than they should. This will wear the bullpen down over the season and when you combine the fact that Piniella only has confidence in a few relievers and consequently overuses them, I shudder to think what it might do when October beckons (if they even hold up to get there).

So, basically, if we had a good pitching coach, he’d get the starters’ pitch counts down and we wouldn’t have to tax a mediocre bullpen so much. It will pay dividends in the playoffs as well. Don’t get me wrong, we DEFINITELY need more bullpen help as well. But that is only one part of the solution.

that’s 108 pitches for Sabathia not 10 plus smiley face with shades! Frodog, is it any way possible to have a preview feature for our posts?

  5. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

    Nemo,

I do not see an option for a preview post. I know there are some on other sites and I don’t think we had one on the old site. The best thing I guess to is just proof read it yourself before posting. If it is hard on here to proof read it, copy your post and put it on Microsoft Word and try it there if it is easier.

I stand by my previous posts at fdb.com that we do NOT have a good pitching coach. Hopefully Lawrence Rothschild will be replaced when the Cubs are sold.

ok, the Cubs are making a big shit about needing “weekend night games” because they are oh so tired coming in from Thursday road games and playing Friday afternoons. They started bitching after being shutout by the Pirates on Friday after finishing the sweep on Milwaukee in Thursday.

Sounds like a reasonable gripe right? Well, guess how many Friday day games the Cubs have this entire year after playing a road game on a Thursday? 2!! That’s right, TWO!! And you’ve played them both already! Last week and in June against the White Sox-btw the Cubs WON that game with the Sox even though they played in St. Petersburg the night before (and were swept there). So cry me a river if I am unimpressed that the perilous journey from Milwaukee to Chicago that got you home about 5 or 6 o’clock (when most REAL working people get home) and exhausted your poor little bodies so much that you were too tired for a 1:20 game the next day. Most REAL working people go back to work at 8 or 9 the next day. Fucking whining ass pussies!

30 night games is plenty. I’m sure the City would agree to TWO of the 30 night games to be on friday night games a year for the babies. They Cubs have been pisspoor in apportioning their night games as their REAL motive is to fill up the stands in April, May, and September when school is in session and day game attendance is more likely to be lower. Many series have had TWO night games. Kinda throws a wrench into the argument that you need them to “recover” from road trips. Fuck this excuse-making bullshit! 22 over and a 5 game lead and you don’t stop whining. Shut up and play ball!!!

  8. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

    I agree Nemo.

I am not sure if it was someone on this site or another one but the ’84 Cubs won the division playing ALL DAY GAMES. The ’89 team won also playing FEW night games.

The excuses need to stop. These fuckers are just complaining because they want to go out, get shit-faced all night long. The other team they play are also playing in the day-time so the excuse of day games is not even a dilemma to be discussed.

    JUST PLAY THE FUCKING GAME.

  9. Bonk's avatar Bonk Says:

I posted this somewhere else, too, but I do wish the Cubs would play more night games on Saturday. Since I live out of town and WGN only has about 1/3 of the Cubs’ games now, I depend on the baseball package.

Saturday day games are blacked out because of the stupid FOX monopoly on the 1-7 p.m. time slot. We get the Cubs less than 1/2 of the time when that happens.

That monopoly is bullshit because in all of baseball, whose fans get boned the hardest? That would be Cubs fans since they play the most Saturday day games.

That’s my rant for the day, and nice job with the site, Fro Dog. I’ll probably post in the third person at times since it amuses me.

Excuses are like assholes, everybody has one!!!

If they are crying over Friday day games, how often does the Cubs opponent on Fridays fly into Chicago after playing a Thursday night game?

yo frodogs, what was the game in which you had seats behind the plate I want to watch it on mlb tv?

  14. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

There were many games in which I was behind home plate but there were two where I really got the attention of the media and fans of this site and both were in 2006.

I cannot remember the dates off the top of my head and I cannot find the photos of me doing it but both were in the 9th inning and I held up two signs.

One said “FIRE DUSTY” and another one said “Hendry Sucks”. Both the got the attention of the media and everyone on here. So I guess I had my day or two of “fame”.

  15. 100 fucking years's avatar 100 fucking years Says:

yes thanks god that piece of shit eyre is gone! now i dont have to worry about someone other then howry coming in and blowing the fucking game open! yo frodogs, could u please give me the teams the cubs were playing when u held the signs up?

  16. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

The Brewers both times. Once in June and the last home night game in September and both times, the ninth inning.

  17. erniesarmy's avatar erniesarmy Says:

I remember that, Fro Dog, you started quite a ruckus if I remember right. Did it get you kicked out of any games?

It needed saying! And I’m glad somebody finally said it. The Cub brass didn’t like it , because Dusty was their guy. But, the fans of the Cubs loved it.

You need to do one other sign: “Fire Hendry and the Tribune Co.!”

yeah nice to see a win today but that piece of shit howry has to go now! giving up yet another fucking lead should be enough for him to follow scott eyre’s ass out od here. what the fuck was he doing in a close game anyways? he is supposed to be a mop up pitcher. anyways great to see soriano in yet another one of his hot streak in which he hits everything he sees, hopefully he doesen’t go back to Sorryanus anytime soon.
