What’s wrong with Z. I think Lou might have messed up his rhythm when he took Zambrano out of that game early. Maybe it’s just a slump. Why is watching the Cubs play the Marlins so frustrating? The whole team doesn’t make what SorryOhNo makes (and I bet they all don’t strike out twice and swing on the first pitch.) Like someone I know said recently, “Soriano is the only player who can still make me mad when he homers .. because he shouldn’t be in the leadoff spot.”

  2. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

Well, the Cubs never do well against Florida. That is a given. I hate the fucking Marlins more than the Mets, Phillies and Padres. Maybe Lou should give Zambrano an extra day of rest next time around.

The argument about Soriano batting leadoff needs to be put to rest. Lou is not going to change anything. The Cubs cannot win without him and that is the way I see it.

The Big Z dumping another load tonight. Now what’s up with that guy?

This guy is about as big an airhead as Soriano.

Just what a contending team DOESN’T NEED!!

  4. AndersonvilleAl's avatar AndersonvilleAl Says:

Thank goodness for Daryle Ward (even though I think Hoffpauir should be on the team in his place). At least, Ward contributed something. I still don’t think Kerry Wood should be the closer. It’s always an effin’ adventure with this guy. Wood looked fine as a setup guy with Marmol as the closer.

  5. erniesarmy's avatar erniesarmy Says:

This win is HUGE! Cubs don’t come from behind in the 9th that’s just a rule.

But, this Cubs team is different, very different. I guess D.Ward is worth keeping around after all. This ab alone should keep him on the roster.

Woody needs 30 pitches to get the save, but he got it so good for him. Z on the other hand needs to see Dr. Phil, he has issues.

Great, Great win, because it was so un-Cublike.

  6. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

I have been on record saying that Ward would be better if given more at-bats. It is tough to get hits when you only get one at-bat a week.

He should play first base in place of Lee for a day or two just to get some work in. We are going to need Ward down the stretch.

  7. jf's avatar jf Says:

Soriano 0-5, Lee 0-4, no Ramirez, Edmonds 0-3 with a walk – for a total of 1 walk. Cubs win. Repeat: This team is ahead to the extent they are because of offense that comes through when the pitching can’t cut it.

At risk of looking too far ahead, the elimination round shouldn’t start with Zambrano on the mound. Aside from the obvious, being the first to win 3 games, last I heard it’s important to win the first game and home games.

I think the heat got to Zambrano today. The sweat was just pouring off of him, and it was clear the heat was taking some off his pitches. They all were really low. Also a few of those balls he threw could have been called strike 3 as they were really borderline.

But I gotta give it to Ward, he hit the ball a ton. The Wood save made me bite off several fingernails, but what the hell, nobody got home. A win’s a win.

.500 on the road, 28 games above .500 life is good.

    GO CUBS GO!!

  9. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

I’m very happy they pulled this one out…but I agree with JF.

Sorry guys: Z is NOT the ace of the staff, not when it really matters. I hope he gets it together.

    Pitching is suspect.

  10. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

    Genre,

I am more worried about the bullpen than Zambrano. Believe me when I say that Zambrano will step up when it is crunch time. He did in the playoffs last year until Lou wanted to save him for game four. We all know how that went…

Wood is an asswipe as he keeps making it interesting. That needs to stop.

Why is Bob Howry still on this team?

  11. armycubsfan's avatar armycubsfan Says:

    Brewers lost, go Dodgers!!

  12. ksmc2000's avatar ksmc2000 Says:

Z struggled through last season in August also, I believe going 0-5. I don’t see this happening again this year. He’s been more consistant and should get it back together soon.

What a great night. I never thought that the Cubs had a chance in hell to get back to .500 on the road. The nine game road winning streak couldn’t have come at a better time. Now is the time to start to run away with the division. The Brewers are not a good enough team to come back from 8 to 10 games back.

The magic number sits at 35.

  13. robert's avatar robert Says:

Do you all realize this team would not be anywhere near first with douchebag mismangaging… First of all he would not be playing that damn rookie catcher or he would not be using that rookie smardgia and he would have had rich harden going 13 innings 330 pitches in his games

  14. Bonk's avatar Bonk Says:

Plus all that base clogging wouldn’t happen.

Dusty’s going to finish last the Central for his second straight season.

    baaaaa
the reason I ma posing that is cause was on cbs sportsline.com
someone said jim hendry fleeced billy beane on the jason kendoll trade yeah we gave up rob bowen but we also gave up a 6’7 lefty named jerry blevin
who is making us look like idiots kendoll did not even play in the playoffs…
i hate hendry then the same idiot points out that hendry fleeced beane on the barett miller trade i dont think so I think damian miller may have made a diffrence down the stretch in 04… god i hate sheeplee baaaaaaaaaaaaa

  16. armycubsfan's avatar armycubsfan Says:

Aww well, we can’t win them all. It was good pitching by Marshall, Samardjiza, Marmol, and even the Brown Spot put together a solid pitching effort. But the offense fell asleep after working overtime the last few games. Still an impressive 4-1 on the road trip, and the worst we can do is 4 of 6.

It would be nice to win the series tomorrow, especially since both the Brewers and Cardinals picked up victories.

  17. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

yes, the Cubs can’t win them all…that said, they can’t keep losing to the Marlins and be expected to make it to a WS…not as long as the Marlins are still in the hunt (they are).

    from http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/preview?gid=280816128

–Chicago now looks to build off its first victory in Florida since July 10, 2005. The Cubs had lost six straight games at Dolphin Stadium, and were also swept in a three-game series at Tampa Bay June 17-19.–

  18. Bonk's avatar Bonk Says:

What the hell was up with that lineup?

I understand Soto needs to sit more often, but if Ramirez couldn’t go, Lee needed to be in there. The Cubs have an off-day on Monday anyway.

  19. jf's avatar jf Says:

Totally agree, Bonk, that wasn’t the best they could do for a lineup. I think they wanted to give Ward more at bats because of that HR Friday night. They have to put more distance between the Brewers and Cardinals before resting the regulars. Lou might be taking too much for granted.

I can’t wait till the Cubs exit Florida. (And if/when they make it to postseason, please no matchup with TB or the Marlins.)

  20. Fro Dog's avatar Fro Dog Says:

    JF,

I think the Cubs have problems with any team that goes to the playoffs.

We all know what the Mets have done to the Cubs in the past and likewise for the Phillies, Marlins, Dodgers and of course the fucking Diamondbacks. Each team has given the Cubs fits over the years.

By the way, I hate Chris Young from the Diamondbacks. I seriously wish he would break his arm or something.

  21. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

geez, just logged on…what an explosion of Cubs offense in the 7th…good news!

  22. AndersonvilleAl's avatar AndersonvilleAl Says:

That was a good road trip. Can’t beat 5-1 and also winning two out of three in the Land of Empty Seats. Now, the Cubs can’t slack off against the Reds, Nationals and Pirates. It’s time to beat the snot out of those teams. I’m hoping (HOPING) for an 8-1 record over the nine games. I’ll take 7-2 and maybe 6-3 (although that would be a little disappointing given who the Cubs are facing).

  23. armycubsfan's avatar armycubsfan Says:

A 6-3 homestand or less would be unacceptable for a team like this. It’s the same damage done as a 3 game series sweep. That said, the Cubs should completely destroy the three teams. The Nationals have lost over 10 in a row! The Cubs will not be ALLOWED to lose even one game against them. They should make short work of the Reds and Pirates too. Good to see the Cardinals and Brewers drop their games today too by the way. I’ve noticed the Cubs have to be 19-19 in the remaining 38 games to hit 95 wins. If they continue to play as they are, a 100 win season seems almost inevitable.

It appears several MLB teams will be achieving mathematical elimination from their respective division races by the end of this coming week. The season is winding down, and it’s time to play hard.

    GO CUBS GO!!

  24. Nemo's avatar Nemo Says:

just to be clear, it’s only a 6 game homestand, the 3 against the Pirates are at Pittsburgh. Even so, this is a 9 game stretch that MUST be dominated. After these 9, 26 of the remaining 29 are against teams with winning records. going 7-2 puts the Cubs at 83-50. Could go 15-14 over last 29 and still finish 98-64. Let’s beat the shit out of the shitty teams and make it easier on ourselves. I would love to have this thing wrapped up with 2 weeks to go so we can rest Soto, Lee, Ramirez, Theriot, Marmol. Wood, Zambrano-fuck, give everyone some rest! Let’s not take this up to the last weekend. If Prior and Wood had made one or two fewer starts in 2003, maybe they don’t collapse in games 6 and 7.

  25. Nemo's avatar Nemo Says:

    oh, and FUCK YOU, FUCKLINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. ksmc2000's avatar ksmc2000 Says:

The Cubs are doing exactly what they need during this favorable stretch of the season in August. It won’t be too much longer that the Brewers will get frustrated by not being able to gain any ground and start to fold. Most of the Brewer players like Weeks, Hall, Hardy, and Hart are not having the career years that they had last year. And their bullpen sucks big time.

From this point on, the Cubs will need 17 more wins, and the Brewers cannot afford to lose any more than 17 for the Cubs to clinch the division.

I think the Cubs chances are looking pretty good. Now they need to kick some ass in the next 9 games against shitty teams.

SHOW DA FIRE AND PASSION, MY FRENDT!
