Too bad Dempster didn’t toss him in the ring so that Undertaker could tombstone him through the fucking ring!!! Stupid bitch. (Howry that is)
August 19, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Too bad the Cubs can’t score some fucking runs when Harden pitches. He has been absolutely stellar with the Cubs.
As somebody said in a previous post, 6-3 over the next 9 games is unacceptable. 7-2 or better, please.
The Cubs have a chance to apply serious pressure if they can dominate 3 mediocre teams. Play ball!
August 19, 2008 at 9:23 pm
OK…4 runs in so far, bottom of 8th. Thank You very much!
August 19, 2008 at 9:40 pm
the sheeple at cbs sportsline posted when will the cubs clinch this was my response..I have lived through 84 89 98 03 07 and the finishes of 95 and 04 I dont care if and when we clinch I am not going to be happy till they win there 11th game of the post season. then and only then will I say it was a good season
August 19, 2008 at 9:45 pm
My girlfriend and I wanted to go watch Raw at the AllState Arena but she couldn’t afford the day off from work. I do not know if I would of had a chance to tell “Brown Spot” Bob Howry he sucks ass but I would if the chance was there.
On the other hand: DO NOT FIRE DUSTY. Ha. If the Reds keep him, that is one less team the Cubs have to worry about every year for contention.
August 19, 2008 at 10:31 pm
….chomp….chomp….chomp….chomp….pttt….ptttt….ptttt….ptttt…..dude….walks clog the bases….he can’t win w/o his horses…stoney talks too much….i guess bartman’s not a cubs fan…neifi’s his boy, kkkorey’s the man…yada yada…
BARF.
Lou is looking pretty good after all.
Hey Cincy: your owner and gm are complete idiots!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
August 19, 2008 at 10:32 pm
tick tock….tick tock….tick tock…tick tock…
100 years.
…and still PATHETIC.
Go Cubs.
Good win tonite.
August 19, 2008 at 11:23 pm
At 77-48, the Cubs share the very top of Major League Baseball with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Angels have lost 3 in a row. I guess the loss of their shortstop hasn’t helped. Both the Brewers and the Cardinals lost their games at home tonight, giving the Cubs the best division lead they’ve had all year. The chirping is a lot quieter now. And whatever sound a Brewer makes is a lot quieter too.
Ups in this game:
Rich Harden pitching 7 innings and still racking up 10 strikeouts.
ZERO WALKS!!!
A big fat goosegg for Dusty’s boys.
Downs:
Some baserunning mistakes by Soriano
Dusty Baker was there. LOL
GO CUBS GO!!!
August 19, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Actually, I think the Brewers fans are probably now noisier with lots more glug, glug, glugging from increased consumption of beer to drown their sorrows AND lots more throwing up and pissing from said increased consumption of beer.
Really nice to see some efficiency in Harden tonight. Base-running had problems-DeRosa as well as Soriano. But Soto was great running the bases.
August 19, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Hey, off-topic, but can anyone recommend a good Bears discussion board? Like this site, not too big that you get overwhelmed with all the posts, die-hard fans, but REALISTIC, and NO SHEEPLE.
August 20, 2008 at 12:43 am
Nemo,
I am not aware of any Bears sites. However, I do welcome Bears discussion at anytime just like we had at the old site.
I think they are going to suck really bad. I love them but I just don’t think they have it. The offensive line sucks and who knows how the running game is going to be. I like Kyle Orton too and I think he is the smarter quarterback but we have to be real on this. I do not even think Joe Montana would kick ass with this offensive line.
August 20, 2008 at 3:10 am
Thanks to Fro Dog, this site is capable of flipping between the Cubs and the Bears. Another fucked up 1st round pick by Angelo. The offensive line truly sucks, but Orton will be better without protection than Grossman.
August 20, 2008 at 9:24 am
Three baserunners in a game. Awesome offense. Defensively, do the Reds not look like the ’04-06 Cubs?
Harden rules. Soto rules. Ramirez rules.
August 20, 2008 at 9:25 am
If I had my horses I’d be winning.
August 20, 2008 at 10:04 am
I was still supporting Wrecks after the Super Bowl loss (I thought the game plan sucked)….but no more. He doesn’t deserve to start and I hope Lovie keeps him on the bench for a very long time, even if Orton starts slowly.
Dustfuck, I already mentioned “the horses” earlier in the this thread, do you have any more words of wisdom, I’m sure I missed something, there is so much…HA HA HA
With the exception of not going as many innings, I think Harden has paid off as well for the Cubs as Sabathia has to the Brewers. He even drove in the winning run last night. Just imagine: if the toothpick chomping idiot was managing, Harden’s arm would have probably broken off by now and we’d be gearing up for Lawrence’s beloved towel drills. HOY HOY HOY
Message to all newcomers: My earlier comment “100 years….still PATHETIC” is not intended to be a slam on the current performance of this Cubs team. But robert summed it up well in his previous post and for me, anything less than 11 post season wins, ie. a WS title is just another season of failure. This might seem harsh to you sheeple out there…but after 100 fucking years of futility I think it’s fair.
baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
August 20, 2008 at 10:53 am
It is unconsionable that the Bears refused to draft a quarterback. Angelo is one fucking stubborn dope. As long as the offensive line is really going to suck, I’d like to see more Caleb Hanie. He has far more mobilitiy than Grossman or Orton. If he sucks against first team opposition, I guess I’d go with Orton-Grossman is the classic frozen deer in headlights. Did you see Frye release a pass about a tenth of a second before he was clobbered? KNOWING he was going to get clobbered? And he still COMPLETED the pass. Grossman and Howry should have their underwear examined to see who the biggest shit stain is.
Cub-killer, but otherwise very sucky pitcher Arroyo goes tonight. Crush. Kill. Destroy. Repeat.
August 20, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Genre – Yes I do. Walks clog the bases, which is why we drew none last night.
August 20, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Not that it’s breaking my heart, but why didn’t Benson play last week? He wasn’t in the box score, I looked in both papers to see why and even some of the fantasy sites and saw nothing.
August 20, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Dustfuck, I mentioned that one in an earlier post of this thread, too (clogging the bases)…please help me out! There’s no way I can remember all of TC’s (toothpick chomper’s) pearls of wisdom…
August 20, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Benson was released for being a hoodlum.
August 20, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Genre,
In ’03, he said that black and latino players play better in the daytime and white players play better at night because of the weather.
Bonk,
Where have you been on the Bears lately? Benson was arrested in June and July for drinking. The Bears let him go shortly thereafter. He sucked anyway.
August 20, 2008 at 1:42 pm
jf
He wasn’t released for being a hoodlum. He was released because he’s an idiot and an ass-clown.
August 20, 2008 at 1:54 pm
i didn’t remember the particulars on that one Fro, thanks for clarifying.
da Bears: hey whatever happened to Thomas Jones, the running back who actually played well in the Superbowl (Bears vs. Colts)?
Remind me why he was traded…and Benson retained?
August 20, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Genre,
Because the Bears management are stubborn idiots and have been for many years.
Thomas Jones got traded about a month after the Super Bowl to the Jets for a draft pick because he was going to be a free agent the next season.
I would be shocked if the Bears even made the playoffs this upcoming season.
August 20, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I’d be shocked if they won 5 games. I have to say this too…I CAN”T STAND LOVIE SMITH!!! He is probably the dumbest, most stubborn head coach in the NFL. Some of you might not agree, but for my money, he is footballs answer to Dusty Baker. He is a fucking moron.
August 20, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Fro Dog – Well, I guess I bought a dated fantasy magazine. I love the Bears but I usually don’t follow them as closely as the Cubs. This year especially I just assumed they were going to suck so I haven’t paid attention to the preseason.
Genre – Well, it just so happens I have a Dustmop Top 10 quotes list that I stashed from two years ago (and after looking at it, No. 4 really should be higher because of the complete absurdity of it):
The “It’s no secret — there are some people who don’t want me here,” Dusty Baker list of dumbest 10 quotes ever.
1. Why walking is bad: “I think walks are over-rated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps. But the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time they’re clogging up the bases for somebody who can run.”
2a. Why Aramis is misunderstood: “Everybody says he doesn’t hustle,” manager Dusty Baker said. “He just hustled at the wrong time and wrong situation. Sure, he was watching the ball running to first. You just can’t get thrown out at third with nobody out in that situation.”
2b. “It may look like they’re not hustling.”
3. On why the Cubs have no fundamentals: “This is Spring Training and it isn’t time for experiments.”
4. How he actually makes his lineups around double switches: “With only five extra men, we really couldn’t afford to start him and take him out of the game early again.”
5. Why Tony LaRussa is smarter than him (after the Cardinals won on a squeeze): “We knew they were probably going to squeeze with him. We just didn’t know when. We knew they were going to try something like that.”
6. “It seems like I don’t do too much right.”
7. Why the Cubs can’t bunt: “How many sac bunts did Billy Williams have? Or Ernie [Banks]? Or [Ron] Santo? I talked to [Santo] and he said he never bunted. It depends on the person.” (NOTE: No one’s advocating Hall-of-Fame caliber hitters bunting, retard).
8. After three players came off the DL: “It’s like getting three guys.”
9. Why the Cubs suck at home: “Guys tell me they sleep on the road a lot easier and better than they do at home. At home, you end up waking at 7:00 in the morning because you’re used to getting up early. On the road, you’re not worried about sleeping in and missing batting practice. You’re always conscious here of oversleeping. You don’t want to wake up in a panic, especially if it’s cloudy or dark outside. If it gets sunny early, you’re jumping out of bed and it could be 6 o’clock.”
10. Why K Patt blew as a Cub: “In my mind, Corey is still young.”
Also earning top-10 votes:
Why Dusty should buy a dictionary: “You say ‘bullpen by committee’ and that sounds like everybody, and it’s not everybody.” (NOTE: That’s why the word “committee” isn’t a synonym for “everybody”)
Why his players are oft-injured: “Inflammation means something’s swollen. It doesn’t mean something’s wrong. I have inflammation on my knee all the time. You guys wake up with inflammation sometimes and you don’t even know where it came from.”
“Back in the old days, everything was bursitis.”
Why Pie isn’t on the team: “Skill-wise, he has the skill,”
August 20, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Jesus, thats worse than an acid flashback!!!
August 20, 2008 at 7:46 pm
WOW. Bonk, that’s the stuff nightmares are made of…the Reds are doomed.
“You guys wake up with inflammation sometimes and you don’t even know where it came from.”
HA HA HA HA HA …dude. pfffft.
Still PATHETIC.
August 20, 2008 at 9:21 pm
I don’t know about anyone else, but this game is really frustrating me. They are playing like shit. The Reds crapped across two runs, and the Cubs can’t do anything.
August 20, 2008 at 9:30 pm
The offense has just gone to sleep, no timely hitting. Not cashing in walks and errors. We get a game like this it seems every 4th or 5th time out. Our defense has been great, and our pitching has been decent. The bats are just sleeping.
Come on CUBS!!!
August 20, 2008 at 9:37 pm
This game was fugly. I wish I had a beer with me or six.
August 20, 2008 at 9:42 pm
If anyone wants to know why I hate Soriano, that game epitomizes it. Lazy ass loafs after a fly ball that drops for a double and eventually results in the game-winning run.
Meanwhile he had no hits, no runs, no RBI, and no steals.
I’d rather see Reed Johnson play left the rest of the year.
August 20, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Nice to see Bronson Arroyo and his 5+ E.R.A. beat the Cubs. If this is how it is going to be every three or four games, then I wonder how it will be in the playoffs if they even get there.
August 20, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Bad loss. On the radio they pointed out that they went down in order in innings 5-9 except for Soto’s walk in the 7th. That’s pathetic. Tomorrow’s game is a “day game after a night game”, of course it is for the Reds too, and I hope they don’t hand the series to this Reds team with a lineup full of call-ups.
1-4 of the Dustmop quotes are beyond ranking; they’re all #1.
August 20, 2008 at 10:25 pm
The more I think about No. 4, I think it’s my favorite.
He was talking about Nomar, and it just shows how stupid he is that he actually bases his lineup of which player(s) he may double switch out.
What a fucking moron.
I’m still fuming about tonight’s game, moreso than usual because I had to listen to pedophile THom Brennaman. Fuck Soriano. I hope he breaks his pussy again.
August 20, 2008 at 10:37 pm
aaargh.
i’m ok with reed, too.
August 20, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I hope that the Cubs plan on performing better tomorrow against 7.70+ ERA Josh Fogg.
I didn’t see this game because we don’t have WCIU down here, but I am glad I missed this game full of suck. Not sure about Soriano being lazy on a fly ball, but it is stupid to wish him to get hurt. I love Reed Johnson, but he works best platooning with Edmonds. The Cubs have been playing much better since Soriano returned from the DL. Johnson doesn’t have the firepower or the arm strength to bench Soriano on a regular basis. Unfortunately, Soriano can be fucking infuriating at times, but in the end, we will need him.
August 21, 2008 at 12:47 am
Underreported story-Derek Lee has just 4 home runs since May 29 and NONE this month. Only 5 rbi’s this month. He has played in 123 out of 126 games. He is slugging just .347 since the break. For crying out loud, even Mark Grace hit 17 home runs once.
August 22, 2008 at 11:54 am
Nemo – I don’t really want Soriano injured. That game just pissed me the fuck off. Yeah, I know he’s still better than Reed, but I think Reed should come in on defense late and play more when any of the outfielders struggle.
Especially Fukudome the way he’s hitting.
