Dempster pitched well in his last start, but no decision. I love what he has done for the team and he no longer deserves the name Dumpster.
Chad Gaudin sucks, and Rich Harden has been too shaky. Yeah he has contributed to Cub wins, but still should have been more agressive with Sabbathia. Bad move, Hendry, especially on Gaudin.
September 26, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Gaudin is a shit stain.
September 26, 2008 at 11:19 pm
at least the fucking Astros are eliminated and we don’t have to worry about that fucking game. Why the fuck was Soto catching?
September 27, 2008 at 12:13 am
Chad Gaudin has just “pitched” himself out of the playoff rotation. Too risky to have him, Cotts, or Howry on the squad for the playoffs.
Lou will have to use some of the starters to fill in the gaps. Bullpen is a huge hole in this team.
September 27, 2008 at 1:01 am
Lou had a hard-on for Eyre. Even when he came back from the DL, Piniella let him rot in the bullpen until he was DFA’ed. Bad decision by Hendry. Brown Spot Bob should have been the guy to go. All Eyre has done since he went to the Phillies is go 5-0.
September 27, 2008 at 10:41 am
Bullshit indeed.
What wins championships? Pitching and defense. The Cubs lack pitching in the late innings. This October is going to suck.
September 27, 2008 at 12:35 pm
By all means, use the starters to fill in the gaps…as late relief is highly suspect and middle relief seems non-existent.
If Howry, Gaudin and Cotts make the post-season roster you can bet that this IS NOT the year. I’d rather see Samardzija than any of those 3.
As for Dick Harden, it would be great if he could last a little longer.
Can you imagine this Cubs team with Sabbathia? Too bad it didn’t happen, although the potential with Harden is still excellent if he stays healthy.
September 27, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Dick Harden needs to last a little longer? How ironic. And how disappointing for the ladies.
September 27, 2008 at 2:31 pm
…i was going to add “that’s what she said”…but opted for subtlety…this time.

This today from Cubs Online:
“Lou Piniella announced on Friday that Jason Marquis and Bobby Howry would pitch out of the pen in the post-season. There is still one spot left on the 11-man staff for fall ball and according to multiple reports Piniella will decide between Chad Gaudin and Jeff Samardzija to round out his pen.
With Ryan Dempster starting game one, Carlos Zambrano in game two, Rich Harden in game three and Ted Lilly in game four, the other six spots appear to be Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood, Neal Cotts, Sean Marshall, Jason Marquis and Bobby Howry.”
Can you believe this? He placed Cotts and Howry in that pen for the playoffs.
Gaudin is not good enough, and Samardzija is way too green, but i would take him over Gaudin at this point.
If any of these bozos blow a game in the playoffs, I will personally take the first flight out of L.A. and strangle that idiot Piniella. I cannot believe him picking Howry. What is his problem? Seriously?
September 27, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Bye, Bye Marquis .. No playoff roster again this year. Might as well pack your bags and head back to New York, watch the rest of it on HD … And don’t bother coming back again next year, Douchenozzle!
September 27, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Fuck you Jason Marquis.
September 27, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Problem is, Al, Piniella already has this clown on the roster.
Wuertz looked real good, finally. He should go over Gaudin or Samardzija.
Although, with this pen who knows anymore.
Hey, Fukudome finally did something! Alright, now beat these guys.
September 27, 2008 at 6:08 pm
When is the deadline for the playoff roster? I might be tomorrow. In that case, I wouldn’t take Marquis. Marshall is starting to look inconsistent as a long man too. Let’s hope our starters go deep in these playoff games.
September 27, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Wuertz indeed has just pitched himself on the playoff roster after bailing out Marquis. No one should worry about Marshall. He will be fine. Samardjia has showed SOME success so he gets a spot too.
Also, fuck Ronny Cedeno. He is a liability. I wonder if that Casey McGehee guy can play shortstop. If so, he should take Cedeno’s spot.
September 28, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Howry is still a piece of shit.
How hard is it for this guy that when Lou calls upon him to just say, “Hey. I suck. Don’t play me.”
You hear that Bob?
September 28, 2008 at 1:15 pm
man, I don’t even know what to say about Howry getting on the postseason roster.
PATHETIC.
I wish I could get paid what he makes for taking a shit.
If this move comes back to haunt the Cubs, heads should roll.
September 28, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Repeat after me, Michael Worst: walks DO NOT clog the bases.
September 28, 2008 at 3:28 pm
For those of you that say this game doesn’t matter, I beg to differ.
Bob Howry can’t get the job done, it’s so fucking obvious. He has been a stinking bum most if not all of this year.
How can you give this guy the ball WHEN THE SEASON is on the line?
That, my friends is the reality of a short playoff series. As we learned last year.
IF Howry works against the Cubs in the playoffs, whoever made the decision to keep him on the roster should be PUNISHED.
September 28, 2008 at 3:35 pm
how ironic bob howry gives up a two run hr….and lee grounds into a double play to end the game…I want lou pinella fired now
September 28, 2008 at 3:39 pm
NOT a good way to end the regular season.
…if the Cubs don’t win it all this, I’m all for replacing DP Lee next season. Another guy that rarely comes up big anymore.
Howry should be flushed TODAY.
September 28, 2008 at 3:40 pm
*this year
September 28, 2008 at 3:41 pm
If Bob Howry pitches one pitch in the playoffs Lou Pinella should be fired on the spot. The rest of the team should take their gloves off and go home. Does Lou not realize that players like Ryan Braun are on the playoff teams. It looks like we will get the Dodgers and that should be very interesting. Lowe has pitched lights out against the Cubs and then we have “Meltdown” Zambrano in Game 2. This could be a very quick series again. I don’t understand why Lou continually puts Bob “I throw the ball as straight as an arrow” Howry. How has he not been on the DL all year with whiplash. All I have seen him do all year is quickly turn his head and watch the ball go out of the park?
September 28, 2008 at 4:30 pm
DP Lee needs to WAKE UP, too…or sit his overpaid weenie ass on the bench.
Ryan Braun is playing like a winner, not a weiner.
September 28, 2008 at 7:47 pm
I hope Howry gets to pitch against “Lloyd” Braun in the NLCS and gets blasted, and then in the next inning Marmol can throw a 96 mph heater at Lloyd’s head ending his postseason…as we win in extras no thanks to Brown Spot Bob Howry.
September 29, 2008 at 12:50 am
I was at the game in Milwaukee on Sunday. I hoped that Piniella would play to win, but as he has done all week was treat it like a spring training game. Haven’t we been punished enough watching this fucking bullpen implode. Lou’s revolving door of useless pitchers made it difficult to sit through. Then I see Brown Spot Bob warming up to pitch the 8th. I felt nausea coming on. When Braun crushed that batting practice fastball, I damn near got up and left, but I sucked it up enough to stay until the bitter end. I don’t have much confidence in this team going into post-season.
September 29, 2008 at 11:17 am
The last week is hard to get a gauge on. Basically Lou has been playing the bench and using every guy out of the pen. I don’t have a problem with that because what happens if you get Ramirez or Soriano hurt in one of these meaningless games. With him using the pen I’m hoping that was some kind of try out to see who to go with. The Howry deal I don’t understand that because he does suck a big fat one. Let’s hope Lou changes his mind in the next day or so and leaves him off the roster. Or if he is on the roster he is only and I repeat only used in a blowout game where you don’t have to Marmol or Wood. This series might be a tough series but I think this is what the Cubs need to try and make a run. I don’t know why but I didn’t like a match up with the Mets and facing Santana twice. It’s time for the big guys on this team to man up and start earning they’re paychecks. Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, Zambrano, even fucking Suckudome. Soriano is fucking due. He has been awfully fucking quiet the last couple weeks I hope that means a hot streak is coming. It sure would be nice for the doe that fucker is making.
