Incredibly, Piniella has this clown on the playoff roster! NO EXCUSE, THAT’S IS JUST PLAIN STUPID! I don’t care how much baseball knowledge he has over the rest of us, that decision is indefensible, period. It’s like he’s telling all of us, “Hey, I’m the manager not you, I’m putting Howry in a game whether you like it or not” But, why? Lou: “Because I’m the manager.”
There are not enough excuses in the universe for Piniella putting this guy on the roster. I will guarantee you, he will put him in a game. Because, since he has him on the playoff roster that means he is planning on using him.
Another thing, Derrek Lee is finished this year, he’s worn out, or injured, you can see it in his swing, and yet Piniella is too stubborn to move him down in the lineup.
I like Lou, he’s a far better manager than Dusty could ever hope to be, but he is like too many of the old-school managers who stick with the same lineup, the same players, and the same set ups over and over again, regardless if they do the job.
I fear we are in for another disappointing playoff season. Unless the players can rise above Lou’s pig headedness – we won’t get far.
And I agree with the other posters here, if Lou’s stubbornness causes us to lose in the playoffs, I say fire him and Hendry immediately at the end of the season.
Let’s sweep this thing clean, get a new owner, a new GM, and a new manager to start fresh next year. Preferably a manger that uses his head!
Al Yellon said, “I have only one word to say about today’s game: What on Earth is Bob Howry doing on a major league roster, much less a playoff roster?”
“As much as I dislike Wuertz — Piniella’s infatuation with Howry is reaching Dusty-Neifi levels of passion…..I cannot believe he is on the post-season roster… It is BEYOND ridiculous.”
I have peaked at most of the other Cub blogs and I have not heard one person, NOT ONE -sheepie or regular – who wants Howry on that roster.
If Lou keeps him on, it just boils down to arrogance, that’s all.
IF Howry ends up blowing a game in the playoffs, then I’m all for firing Piniella for being a stubborn old man. What grounds? “Unfit to manage a team that hasn’t won a WS Title in 100 years…and has a legitimate opportunity to do so”.
Hendry should have already been fired. The onbly thing that can save his job is a WS Title.
Zell is a greedy bastard jagoff that is just trying to milk the franchise for as much $$$ as he can….he just doesn’t have enough money, I guess. BOO HOO.
IF this team is ever sold, a complete housecleaning (management-front office) is in order. If they win it all, of course let Piniella manage his final year…but don’t extend his contract until we see how it plays out next year.
That said, of course Piniella is a far superior manager to Dusty Baker. I think he has done a very good–NOT great–job thus far.
But this is what 100 YEARS OF PATHETIC LOSING does to longtime fans, at least the intelligent ones who don’t think it’s OK to continually get served a platter of steaming shit…not when you’ve paid for an excellent meal. We expect and deserve better.
Did I mention that Bob Howry should be flushed down the toilet? Of course I did. The fact that Piniella and Hendry think otherwise is really disturbing…and it concerns me.
Boy Scout Bob is throwing games. He should be reported to MLB, and the FBI can then investigate the money trail, and the SOB will go to prison. No one could be this bad unless it was intentional.
What irritates me is Howry was one of the first players named to the postseason roster-not the last. Piniella said yesterday he talked to Howry and said he couldn’t suck anymore. How’d that work out today? He was by far the worst pitcher of the 7 very suspect pitchers that went for the Cubs today.
Calm down, everyone. There’s still hope yet. I read in the Sun-Times that the Cubs haven’t finalized their playoff roster and won’t until Tuesday morning.
The Cubs don’t plan to make the final decision on their playoff roster until after Piniella, general manager Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush meet Tuesday morning.
The issue appears to be whether to keep the better hitter in Micah Hoffpauir or the better fielder in Felix Pie for an outfield spot. DeRosa’s prognosis could have a bearing on that.
”I didn’t see anything today that changes anything,” Piniella said
I can’t imagine Howry did anything to make Piniella trust him. Remember how bad Piniella didn’t trust Scott Eyre (both pitchers brought in by Jim Hendry). I also imagine (and hope) that Piniella will only use Howry for mop-up duty. I hope he doesn’t see the light of day, to be honest. The Cubs starters are going to have to go six or seven innings in each game anyway because we don’t have anyone reliable in the bullpen outside of Marmol and Wood (occasionally). Rothschild needs to get off his @$$ and teach Jeff S. some control. Same with Rich Harden.
Around work, we call Howry the “Gas Can” because it’s like dumping a can of gas on a fire when he comes in.
My girlfriend had the best line this afternoon, “Has he ever done anything good?”
NO.
They should keep Pie and Hoffpauir instead of carrying 11 pitchers. Piniella said as early as Friday or Saturday that he met with Howry and Howry was going to be on the roster. If nothing happened yesterday to change his mind Howry will be out there. To lose Hoffpauir from the roster to make room for that manure factory would be inexcusable.

worth repeating: The only thing I’d trust Howry to do is to be a production worker at a human manure factory.

Believe It or Not Department:
Al Yellon said, “I have only one word to say about today’s game: What on Earth is Bob Howry doing on a major league roster, much less a playoff roster?”
Al, we’re with you on that, Pal.

On a positive note, if Al Yellon actually posted that, than almost anything possible.

If Howry tried to shoot himself in the head, he’d probably miss.

I bet Neifi has something to with it.

Maybe Howry will break his neck trying to suck his own cock-no self-respecting lady would do it for him.

no self-respecting lady would suck Howry’s cock, that is. Certainly any self-respecting lady would be happy to break Howry’s neck for him.

I just don’t see the justification in Howry making the playoff roster.
He has pitched like a pathetic stinking bum most of this year.
Larry Rothschild has needed to go for a couple of years and I’ll stand by that regardless of what happens in the playoffs.
