The Cubs had publicly praised Ross, with owner Tom Ricketts saying Oct. 2: “He’s our guy”. Yeah, right, sure.

    Did not see that coming! Jed Hoyer is not a big fan of bunts though. The Cubs kept this a huge secret. Ross was basically gonna be the guy until Counsell accepted the record-breaking deal.

    The Counsell hiring is a brilliant move. I liked Ross but losing him is no big deal. Padres might take him. As for Counsell, that dude did a whole lot with a shit payroll in Milwaukee, even getting to the NLCS. But now here he comes to a big city team with a large payroll and a stacked farm system, and becomes the highest paid skipper in MLB. Cubs seem like they are planning to make a big trade and a big free agent signing or two to contend in 2024. We’ll see!

    Ross was their guy until CC came open. I’m sure Hoyer meant it at the time he said it.
