Having experienced the 2016 Cubs World Series Championship under Theo’s watch, I’ll always be grateful for his part in making it happen.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up….thoughts?

The ‘Toothpick Chomping Idiot’ strikes again…!

October 18, 2020

My frendts: consider this post a shout out to the individual who ‘inspired’ many of us to band together here at firejerryangelo.com and the many others who frequented the original Fire Dusty Baker site, firedustybaker.com

Fro Dog kept the site alive – by creating THIS site in August 2008 after “bobbyd” had mysteriously disappeared from the internet. I’ve often wondered what happened to bobbyd, and whether or not he was alive to enjoy the 2016 season when the Cubs finally won another World Series.

Here’s Fro’s 1st post from this site:
https://firejerryangelo.org/2008/08/01/hello-world/#comments

To be fair, you could say that the Astros overachieved…but it’s not the first time a Dusty led team has, only to fall short. This time, his team ‘teased’ the fans by losing the first 3 in a best of 7, only to win games 4-6 and even the series. But unlike the Red Sox, they couldn’t pull off the almost unthinkable…so here we are.

I don’t know Dusty Baker personally – by many accounts he’s a great guy’ – but some of the crap he spewed in 2003 when the Cubs were in control and yet self-imploded was too much for me. His mis-managment of the Cubs in the 2003 NLCS was EPIC.

After falling behind behind 2 games to none, the Cubs came back to win 3 in a row and were a mere 5 outs away in Game 6 at Wrigley Field from going to the World Series for the first time since 2008. The Marlins then scored 8 runs in the 8th inning, to defeat the Cubs 8-3. None of it was Bartman’s fault, I’ll forever give most of the credit to Dusty Baker (and some to Moises ‘piss hands’ Alou)…

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cubs/comments/84lmo7/did_moises_alou_piss_on_his_hands_or_was_that_an/

Yet there was a still a game 7…and we know how that went…BRUTAL:

Astros fans, no worries: Dusty promises that the Astros “will be back”…and he still has a way with words! bwahahahaha bwahahahahahaha hahahahahaha hahaha

https://www.newsbreak.com/news/2084707416963/dusty-baker-astros-will-be-back-in-this-position-next-year-after-alcs-loss

And here’s another… https://theathletic.com/1837888/2020/05/26/stark-no-toothpicks-no-spitting-dusty-baker-on-the-strange-twist-in-his-last-hurrah/

If ‘toothpick chomping idiot’ seems overly harsh or malicious, please understand that it was merely a nod to those of you who’ve been checking in for more than a few years. Perhaps “Dustfuck’ would have been too harsh, and ‘Dustbin’ too blase (?).

We’ll see if the Braves can avoid a choke and win Game 7 (can’t pull for the Dodgers, due to Steve FUCKING Garvey). But given their postseason performance history, it will tough to bet on them should they prevail.

Thanks again to the 2016 Cubs (shout out to Joe Maddon and Theo Espstein) for winning the World Series.

Comments welcomed.

Why am I NOT surprised?

October 2, 2020

The Marlins (Fucklins?) did it again!

Much as I wanted to, I never really believed the Cubs had a chance this year. They shot out of the gate but couldn’t sustain the energy for 60 games (less than 1/2 a normal season). They limped into the playoffs (again) and the hitting was almost non-existent (when it really matters).

I expect a very different roster next year. So does the guy who wrote this article: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/why-cubs-early-playoff-exit-is-end-of-the-road-for-core-group-that-won-2016-world-series/

Any thoughts? I promise not to be offended if nobody wants to weigh in…it was difficult for me to be excited about, much less pay attention during this ‘mini-season’.

Wait till next year.

tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…

And now, a Cubs no-hitter.

September 13, 2020

Alec Mills pitched a no-hitter today. And, Baez stole home. And, the Bears came from behind to beat the Lions. Glorious!

2nd one at Miller Park…Zambrano pitched one in 2008 against the Astros.

That’s all, my frendts…I’m going for a walk in the woods. Carry on!

Another ex-Cub is gone.

Lou Brock has left the building.

Worst trade in MLB history? You be the judge.

Kimbrel strikes – err, I mean WALKS – again!

Cubs are playing like it really matters…but will it?

August 12, 2020

So, the Cubs are 12-3, and off to their best start since 1970.

They look great. It seems like David Ross is really connecting with the players, and taking care of business.

Normally I’d be checking the ball scores regularly, but I’m finding it hard to engage…and expecting the season to “end” before it’s completed.

Thoughts, anybody?

Da Cubs.

June 15, 2020

strange days

Greetings to all and apologies for my prolonged absence…current events have thrown a wrench into many things, and like many I’ve been affected. Between scrambling to make ends meet, and how to release an album that was scheduled for a mid-March release (I held it back for awhile) my plate has been full.

That said, I’m healthy and doing my best to remain that way; here’s hoping that the same is true for you and yours.

Under normal circumstances, we would be 2 months and counting into the 2020 baseball season. But the way things are looking, I won’t be surprised if baseball is canceled until 2021….what do YOU think is going to happen?

As for the Cubs, I honestly haven’t been keeping up with what’s happening/new. If anybody wants to post an in-depth analysis to spark a new thread, please comment here. Upon request, I’ll start a new thread with your post featured and a credit to you.

As weird as things are, a summer without baseball makes everything worse…(for me).

In 2016, the Cubs surprised (shocked?) most of us by winning their first WS since 1908. Now we sit and wait…

tick fucking tock…

…hello again, David Ross

October 25, 2019

chucky Says:

Hey Genre, or Fro…..I think we need a Cubs post, asap. We have a real serious problem on our hands, I’m afraid.

Dave Says:

I’m giving David Ross a pass until he actually screws up significantly. Joe Espada was probably the best choice but lets see what Ross does.

***************************

chucky, thank you for the gentle prod…I’m buried with work. Like Dave, I’ll give Ross a pass for now. I expected Espada to be hired when they brought him back for 2nd interview.

Ernie, what do you make of this?

Thank You, Joe Maddon!

October 3, 2019

Well…….I, for one am disappointed that Joe won’t return in 2020. He was the perfect manager for the Cubs when hired, and the 2016 World Series Championship proves it. I suspect that he was ready to move on, and wish him the best moving forward.

I’ll write more later….in the meantime, I know my frendt Ernie is happy that Maddon is gone…what about the rest of youse?

…waiting to see who the next Cubs manager will be….tick tock.
