June 11, 2018

Interesting article…I am a Joe maddon fan…but I would have left Hendricks in yesterday…(to be clear, the photo is from a different game).

Cubs thread

June 2, 2018

What do you think?

The Cubs are playing well…largest run differential in NL, but they still trail the Brewers and Cards/Pirates are 1 1/2 back.

I’ll start. Arrieta. Was it too soon to part ways?

(from http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/30145/jake-arrieta)

News: Arrieta (5-2) picked up the win Tuesday, throwing seven shutout innings with five strikeouts while allowing six hits and two walks against the Dodgers. (Wed May 30)

Spin: Arrieta wasn’t in much trouble most of the night, as all six hits allowed were singles. He’s now struck out 12 and gone 13.2 innings without allowing a run over the last two starts, and finishes May with a microscopic 0.90 ERA over five starts and 30 innings. His 6.2 K/9 is still significantly down from past years — 8.7 K/9 was his lowest mark in four full seasons with the Cubs — but he’ll carry a tidy 2.16 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start Sunday against the Giants.

Cue Yeti…

yeah, right…the season just started.

Arrieta, so far. Darvish?  pfffft.

And they’re off…..

March 31, 2018

It would be refreshing to see the Cubs get off to a good start this year…which made last night’s 17 inning 2-1 loss very disappointing, especially against the Marlins.

Your thoughts on the Cubs welcomed here. Will they return to the WS in 2018?

Thx for the memories…

Arrieta to the Phillies. Expected deal is 2-5 years.

Thoughts?

meanwhile, back in Wrigleyville…..

The best team in the NL is going to the 2017 World Series.

October 20, 2017

It doesn’t always happen…but no surprise here. NOTHING was easy for the 2017 Chicago Cubs, they never clicked, (as discussed here,  https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-2017-cubs-never-clicked/ )

The Cubs were fortunate to win the division and make the playoffs. It was obvious to anybody who knows baseball that the pitching was suspect. Hitting was all or nothing at all, much of the season.

There will be some big changes next year. I hope they can shore up the bullpen, and IF he returns (unlikely?) get Wade Davis some help, before his arm falls off…ha ha ha ha.

Now that they have won a World Series, it sure feels different (as Fro and I “discussed” recently via text). I’ve enjoyed the success they’ve had these past 3 seasons, and hope they can make it to the post-season a 4th year in a row.

You KNOW that Theo wants another WS ring with the Cubs…………………….

As Dave posted in the previous thread: “Good season for the Cubs. I can’t complain too much, its been a nice 3 years. Just have to fill in the holes like we did after the 2015 season.”

All the Best, my FRENDTS!

Cubs are not looking good…wait ’till next year?

October 17, 2017

Guys…I apologize for not posting more; my plate is pretty full.

Not looking good…Happ just dropped the ball after hitting the wall. The Cubs can’t pitch or hit (again) and I’m not “feeling it”.

That said, somebody has to win 4 before this series is over, which could happen tomorrow…it’s starting to feel like Cubs-Mets (2015).

The floor is yours, my frendts.

p.s. Walks do NOT clog the bases…the Cubs’ bullpen SUCKS.

The Iceman Pitcheth…….what a game!

October 13, 2017

“I’ve always known he’s got a lot of mettle in his soul,” Ben Zobrist, who scored two runs for Chicago, said about Davis. “The guy just shows up. He’s got ice in his veins.”

Stepping up when it really counts (again).

I’m glad Maddon started Kyle Hendricks last night.

I believe that he’s the current “ace” of the Chicago Cubs starting pitchers. What a great performance last night. Like Greg Maddux, he can be overpowering, without a crushing fastball.
