I know. I know. The Bears are awful and won’t make the playoffs. But at least it’s still interesting.
A Bears win followed by losses from the Rams, Seahawks, Vikings keeps them alive going into the last game of the season.
Or, losses by the Saints, Packers, Rams and Seahawks would also keep them alive for the final game. This scenario puts them in a game with the Packers where the winner gets the consolation prize playoff spot.

It’s pretty funny how little traffic there is here, and the Bears won today.
Fields is looking pretty sharp. At this point, it has to be wondered whether the opportunity cost of drafting Caleb Williams at #1 overall still outweighs all of the potential draft picks that the Bears could get if they trade it to instead focus on roster-building. This team will finish at worst 7-10, which is an improvement from both 2021 and 2022, and that’s with the Bears having started 0-4. Also, in those previous two years the Bears had a winning record at some point in the early part of the season, whereas this season they have not, and they have still done better. The defense in particular is much improved. I feel that with a few good draft picks, particularly from the #1 and Caleb Williams, they could be a playoff caliber team. Caleb Williams does not sound like he wants to get drafted by Chicago, and DJ Moore seems to like the chemistry he has with Fields, which has resulted in career numbers. Now, whether all this means it will open up a Super Bowl window for them is anybody’s guess, but I think Matt Eberflus’ job is safe for now.

And . . . the Bears got eliminated from playoff contention. Yep, that breakdown against the Broncos, the choke against the Lions in Detroit, and the breakdown against the Browns, had the Bears not blown even one of those games they would still have a serious chance of making playoffs, and beating the Packers of all teams to win-in. Now . . . it’s the Packers in the exact same scenario as last year who have to play a team with nothing to play for to win-in. But, I am afraid to say, the Bears are the best team that the Packers could hope to play against. We will most certainly not be doing anything of the sort that the Lions did last year. FGB. Geez, I watched the highlights of the Vikings-Packers game tonight and the Vikings looked like how the Bears do when they play the Packers. Their offense looked like a damsel tied to the train tracks before the oncoming Packers pass rush, and their defense looked like a deer caught in the headlights of the oncoming Packers offense.

Ogg,
I am not going to touch that subject. But there is a guy with a chainsaw that resides at this site who may give you that answer.
John,
The reason for the low traffic is the same one late in the last several seasons: fatigue. The Bears have given readers of this site exhaustion and that goes to me as well. I should engage in my own site more. But you have to know that I’ve been doing this for 15 years. This place was much more active back then and I keep it around for the people who still come here. I appreciate the support.
As crazy as it sounds, the Giants pulled some stupid shit today and if that hadn’t happened, the Bears would still have a chance going into the last game of the season. I am actually shocked they weren’t eliminated several weeks ago.
If I’m the Bears, I get Marvin Harrison Jr. with that first pick. Then take the next pick on an offensive lineman. Go get a quarterback in the third or fourth round and develop him. Keep Bagent as the backup and see if he continues to improve as well.
But we have to remember this important piece of information: This is the Bears. We can’t let these mini-streaks fool us.

I haven’t posted much because I started getting sick right before Christmas, and now I think blown up into full-blown fucking Covid. Even my chainsaw can’t kick its ass. I’m going to bed now. I feel like hammered shit.

First off: chucky, I hope you recover quickly and completely.
I’m guessing many of you will disagree with me, and I admit to not being an “expert” when it comes to football…but I think the Bears should stick with Fields for now. There are no guarantees any of the incoming qb’s will be franchise quarterbacks.
2023 was a roller coaster for me, hence my ‘absence’…I’m hoping to be more active here in 2024.
Happy New Year to all, my frendts!

Pulling for you, Chuckster. I had COVID on two different occasions and that shit is real. Most sick I ever was.
Vick’s Vapor Rub, liquid DayQuil, saline nose rinse and Ricola cough drops all did wonders for me.

Keeping Fields is the right play here, especially if you do go in and play competitively vs the Packers. Also you don’t breakup that QB-WR connection without potentially damaging some cohesion in that locker room. You know what you have with Fields and you still don’t know his ceiling. It might be higher than the draftee QBs. That offense is one talented and strong center (and a competent offensive coordinator) away from greatness, I think. Fixing that will lessen the sacks and fumbles. Address any weak spots in the defensive line in this draft, tag or sign Johnson, and you have a playoff team next year. ‘Flus is not likely to be fired, I’ll be surprised if he is, especially if they can win at Lambeau Sunday. The defense has really improved under him.

Get well soon, Chucky!
