I was a little late on this.
The Bears have indeed, selected Caleb Williams to be their quarterback and took wide receiver Rome Odunze from Washington State.
Until we are proven otherwise, we have to assume that these two along with whoever else they choose this weekend will be busts. 40 years of ineptitude has given us enough to assume this is the outcome.

Fuck it, I’m not even watching this. Two reasons: 1. I knew the Bears were picking Williams at #1. Big fuckin’ deal. We all know their track record for developing quarterbacks. I don’t know what he majored in college, but I’ll go on record right now, tonight 4/25/24, 8:31 PM, that in five years’ time, Williams will be on another team, or out of the league altogether and using that degree. There’s simply too goddamn much negative history with these incompetent shit fuckers to think they’ll develop him correctly. It’s as simple as that. And #2. Most of these guys who’ll get drafted won’t be in the league in three years. I hate like hell being an old cynical bastard, but goddamnit, the fucking Bears have made me that.

I’ll be the glass half-full guy here, (because someone has to). I love the picks so far. The Bears offense might be good enough to overcome poor coaching. The wide receiver room looks especially formidable, who do defenses cover? Cover all receivers and Swift or Kmet end up with the ball. I’d like to see a young edge rusher get drafted, and we need a strong center. Could be the best draft in years for the Bears.

Dave, I don’t know if that matters when every offensive coordinator that comes to town ends up drinking the water at Halas Hall. We hear these great things when they arrive and when it’s time to play games that matter, they end up being morons.
It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is what the offensive line is constructed of. Until a coordinator with some kind of brain can come in here and use common sense, none of this matters.
2nd and inches? Run. 100% of the time. Run. Don’t try some fuckery by doing passes to the side for a loss of two or bubble screens that get fumbled. Run that damn ball up the middle. Everything else falls into place when common sense is present.

Well, Chucky, would you rather they have taken Jayden Daniels? Because there are some outlets who were rating him higher than Caleb Williams. But . . . maybe it wouldn’t really matter either way. Though I can say that Caleb will be getting a much better situation than Fields, the poor kid, ever got: DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, Cole Kmet, just to name a few, and a rebuilt defense and a refurbished offensive line. They have clearly been preparing the way for him.

I thought I was clear about this, John. It’s the goddamned Bears that I have no fucking faith in, not Williams. Anybody who has been watching this (dis)organization for the last 40 years and still has two functioning eyeballs doesn’t either.

I am certain a punter was necessary. But spending a fourth-round pick on one makes my head scratch. Maybe go find a defensive back who actually knows how to play defense?
