Bears vs. Texans Thread | Happy Sweet 16 for Fire (Insert Incompetent Person Here)!

by

Oh, yes. On the 16th birthday of this website where many have come and gone, the Bears are going to disgrace us with their presence in the preseason opener.

Usually, I have a separate thread for this. But I wanted to thank the few who still roam this place. It does get more lively when the regular season actually starts. We’ve seen everything here from championships to the worst seasons ever. But regardless, you showing up is appreciated.

Enjoy this shitty game tonight.

Damn Fro, now I feel REALLY old! 16 years is a hell of a run, and you’re still going. Congratulations, my fitness frendt!

I really don’t want to watch this game, but I’ll probably check it out at some point. Aside from the fact that the Bears are employing the same bullshit philosophy of not giving any playing time to the starters, the three guys going into the Hall of Fame is depressing for me. I’ll run them down, one by one, and you tell me if I’m wrong or not.

    1. Julius Peppers. Great player, very deserving of induction. But he only spent a few years here, and that was towards the end of his career. I’m happy for him, but he really wasn’t a Bear for a long period of time.
    2. Devin Hester. Fuck him. Yes, he was the best returner in history. But he lost ALL respect from me when he cried like a little bitch when the Bears FINALLY unloaded the ever-useless Lovie Smith. He even contemplated retirement over it. So, I don’t care about Hester, and I never will. He’s just a little bitch to me. And that’s all he’ll ever be.
    3. Steve “Mongo” McMichael. This one is the most depressing for me. Mongo was my favorite player from the ’85 team, right up there with Jim McMahon. Mongo should have gone in much sooner, and I really don’t know why he didn’t. It’s absolutely tragic that he can’t be there in person. ALS is such an insidious disease. Full disclosure: I was a huge fan of the old Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon and would watch it religiously every single year. I even chipped in a few bucks a few times. I leaned a few things about the corporate suits who run the MDA, and what they did to Lewis, basically kicking him to the fucking curb about 12-13 years ago. It was complete bullshit. My understanding was this: Scientists had discovered, or were on the verge of discovering a cure for ALS. The suits didn’t want that. Lewis wanted it known, and they prevented it from happening. If they had allowed the treatment to go forward, perhaps Mongo would not have to endure this. I really feel for not just Mongo, but for all people who suffer from neuromuscular disease. After Lewis was dismissed, the following years telethon was an utter horror. I apologize for going on like this, but this is actually a topic that’s cuts kind of deep for me. I knew a kid when I was in junior high school who had some form of muscular dystrophy, and being a stupid, cruel piece of shit, I wasn’t very kind to him. I later saw him on the telethon’s local coverage, and just felt sick. I heard he died not long ago, and I think of him every year at this time. Thank you Fro, for so damn many things, for tolerating my vulgar rants, for letting all of us to come and vent into the darkness of this corner of the internet, and personally, for allowing me my voice in all of our frustrations, or celebrations, and the comradery that we enjoy here.

      You are very welcome, sir!

Also, good to see the defense in mid-season form by giving up a touchdown on the first drive of this game. The culture of garbage continues.

And…the Bears get a false start on 4th and 1.

      Undisciplined.

SHOW DA FIRE AND PASSION, MY FRENDT!
