Instead of limiting it to five or six candidates, the Bears are interviewing everyone from actual coaches to employees at the local McDonald’s. I think they should stick with the workers at McDonald’s.
I just don’t get it. Ben Johnson should be the top choice. Maybe four or five others. Even the so-called “experts” are saying what Poles is doing is fucking stupid. So take that for what it’s worth.
And please, no Mike McCarthy. He’s a nice guy and all. But he couldn’t get the Cowboys with all of those great players to go far in the playoffs since he took over in 2020.

Apparently this type of coaching search and interview process is a relatively new workflow and the Bears are operating correctly under NFL rules. Coaches and coordinators on teams still in the playoffs can only do video conference interviews until they have been eliminated from the playoffs or the Super Bowl has concluded. The Bears are really trying to get it right and are learning from every interview. Everything to how things work on other teams and general expectations of coaching candidates. And a few of those experts who are learning of this are walking back their initially negative opinions of the Bears’ process. Perhaps we will indeed see Ben Johnson hired on 2/10/25 or shortly afterward.

Fro, this looks to me like the Bears are looking for something, but even they don’t know what it is that they’re looking for. Nobody should want this fucking job, even for the chance to work with Caleb Williams. This morning I heard Bernstein say that Ben Johnson said he wouldn’t take the job unless they blew out the entire front office. I’ll wait for Lake Michigan to part like the Red Sea before that happens. Even worse, so far Ron Riviera has been the only guy to interview in person. Mike McCarthy is coming in today to be the second guy to interview in person. And he’s flying in from Dallas to Wheeling Illinois…….in a private plane? It was raising eyebrows at the Score too. I think we were bracing ourselves for the worst anyway, and the more I think about, and the more time that goes by, I think we were right to do so. The shit show goes on……..

That’s exactly what is. They’re searching for answers. But don’t know what the questions are.
As much as we all love Ron Rivera, I don’t think him being the head coach is a good idea. Now, a defensive coordinator, I would hire him in a heartbeat. He helped the Bears become competent in the mid-2000’s. Then Lovie fired him after the Super Bowl loss in favor of his “friend” Bob Babich. We all know how that turned out.
Head coach – Ben Johnson
Offensive coordinator – Whoever Ben Johnson hires.
Defensive coordinator – Ron Rivera
I’m good with this.

I think Johnson is mostly a pipe dream, especially if what Bernstein said yesterday is true. The idiot assholes in the front office aren’t going anywhere. And that just sucks donkey shaft. What needs to happen, and it won’t, is for the McCaskey Crime Family to either 1. accidently hit a bullseye and hire competent coaches and front office people, or 2. sell the goddamn team. And I hate to say it, but I don’t see either happening.

Casting a wide net is smart in my opinion, but this is the Bears. Though, comparing it to a McDonald’s hiring spree? Come on. At least McDonald’s workers can handle chaos during a lunch rush—unlike this front office. If you think Ben Johnson is the top choice, maybe explain why, other than just parroting what everyone else says. Most hotshot OCs flop as head coaches anyway. And the McCarthy hate? Sure, he’s not exciting, but the guy has a ring and 11 playoff wins—more than the Bears have had in, what, three decades plus? Anyway, glad you got all that pent-up frustration out. Felt good, didn’t it?

Its probably going to be McCarthy. Brady and the Raiders have basically tampered with the Ben Johnson situation and he is likely heading there. Of course the NFL isn’t gonna do shit about it.
But hey, McCarthy did develop Aaron Rodgers, and that was Caleb Williams’ top comp at draft time. Maybe McCarthy will do well.
