Does it have to be this difficult? | Bears 25 Raiders 24

by

The short answer is “no.”

Look, I am stoked the Bears won despite the fact that I should schedule an appointment with a cardiologist tomorrow. Yesterday, the Illini pissed all over themselves and ended up finding a way to win. Today, I had a feeling it would be something similar.

The defense did it’s job in the first half. If someone simply looked at the stats (cue Yeti), you would think the Bears would have won by 30. Instead, despite all of the horseshit play-calling by Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams found a way to give the team the lead. Then, the special teams had a miracle in them by blocking Daniel Carlson’s field goal at the end. Bears win.

Caleb Williams was not the best in the first half. He was getting numerous passes batted down with one being an interception. On that same play, DeAndre Swift was wide open down the seem and yet, he was trying to pass to someone else. Again, not all his fault on some of those plays. We all thought after last year, the defense was going to find a way to fuck it up at the end. We as fans of this team don’t get many of these kinds of games where they actually pull it out. So I will enjoy it.

This offensive line is absolute trash. Ryan Poles “fixed” this line? All of that money is wasted. Out of the tens or even hundreds of players who are free agents currently, is there not ONE lineman that is better than any of the five currently playing? This is all on Ryan Poles who signed, traded for and drafted all of these busts. Caleb Williams found a way to win despite this shitty line.

Despite Cairo Santos fucking up in the season opener, he did his job today. Four field goals in awful situations due to the amount of penalties and fuck-ups by the offensive line. It’s like they did it on purpose because they wanted to see Santos kick longer field goals. Must be entertaining to them.

This bye-week comes at a time where maybe these injured players will heal. And maybe when they all come back, they will be competent NFL players. Maybe?

Competent NFL players? Don’t fucking bet on it! This game sucked so many goddamned donkey balls that in a just world BOTH fucking teams should have walked off that field with a loss! If I were a member of either team, I’d be ashamed to show my face anywhere!

Fro Dog You hit the nail on the head , Poles has done nothing to improve the O and D lines , he spends big money on free agents because his O and D line draft picks have sucked and as a reward Kevin , dumbass , Warren extends him! Things haven’t changed at the McCaskey clown show and never will , their history proves that ! Ben Johnson is a Ofensive genius , yeah ok , what a joke , a bad joke !!

Anyone here talk baseball anymore? I’m glad the Cubs made the playoffs, unfortunately I don’t see them making much noise. Some big injuries to overcome and an even bigger incompetent manager to overcome. Looked to me Craig Counsell was the #1 reason the Brewers couldn’t go any further and they haven’t skipped a beat without him. His inability to utilize a pitching staff is laughable along with zero lineup construction. Sad to say I think we’re stuck with him awhile.

    I’ll talk baseball:

When the Cubs got swept in four by the Reds, then dropped the first game against the Mets for a five game losing streak, I was not feeling good about their chances. But that sweep against the deadbirds and one blowout win vs the Mets showed their offense might be coming alive just a bit, even if it was against non-playoff teams. Seiya, PCA, and Busch are on fire right now, as is Nico Hoerner.

This patchwork rotation with big injuries came up strong in big moments, with excellent starts from other contributors, I might add. Though, I’m trusting a couple other bench starters/long relievers in a high-leverage moment over Shota Imanaga, I think he needs to rest this series, maybe come out of the bullpen. And I can just imagine a fired up Cade Horton coming off the IL to start a deciding game 5 in the NLDS, or game 1 in the NLCS.

I really see a Phillies-Mariners World Series, but the Cubs are my dark horse pick to win it all. And if not this year(like 2015), maybe next year, ending a miniscule 10-year WS championship drought.

And, back to Da Bears: Fro, I stand by it, Tyrique Stevenson is an improved and maturing player. Played hard today, got another big interception. And 10-year vet Byard is impressive, those athletic dives for the interceptions! Yeah, here is Dave bringing positive spin to this negative leaning (as intended) page. Deep breaths, people. Deep breaths…..

Sorry, Dave. Tyrique Stevenson should have been cut after that game in Washington last year. I am not the only one who believes that.

Now, if the Bears happen to win the Super Bowl this year and Stevenson is a reason why, then I will gladly eat my words. I will gladly announce to everyone that Ryan Poles was right all along with this entire plan and that I am a fucking idiot.

Until then, Ryan Poles is a fucking idiot.

I have never forgotten 1984. For the love of all that’s holy in the universe, the Cubs need to beat the Goddamn, Motherfucking Fuckdres. That is all.

I remember 1984 too, Nemo. I had a scratched eyeball and had to wear a patch over it with my eye closed for a full month, I think. I also remember the first game of that series, a 13-0 bashing of that shithole team. And they took game 2 and went off to Dan Diego, and the fucking wheels came off. Un-fucking-believable! I’m not so sure the Cubs could have topped Detroit in the WS, but they’d have done better than San-fucking-Diego.

  8. Nemo's avatar Nemo Says:

Yeah, I was at that 13-0 game, Chucky. The Cubs had a postcard lottery to buy tickets and ours got picked. A Wildcard Series win is not equivalent revenge, but it’s a start. Yeah, Detroit was great, but Cubs probably would’ve taken them to Game 7. The 1984 World Series was one of the worst of all time.

  9. Dave's avatar Dave Says:

Counsell managed his ass off yesterday! That mid-game move to go to Palencia and his 102mph fastballs was genius and the rest of the bullpen did the rest for a total of 14 outs of perfection. He should have had Happ bunt with runners at 2nd and 3rd, but that was the only questionable move.

    Lets get’em again today Cubs.

  10. Cubs Suck's avatar Cubs Suck Says:

Nice to see a Chicago team win a playoff series! Counsell tried to give that one away leaving Keller out there way too long. Nervous about watching the Cubbies drinking their asses off after a wildcard win, last time they celebrated like that they lost 5 in a row. Lets see what happens.

  11. Dave's avatar Dave Says:

Apparently, according to postgame, the celebration with the alcohol was much shorter than the one in Pittsburgh and they came back out on the field rather quickly to spend time celebrating with their families and any lingering fans. I like their chances in Milwaukee. I believe the Padres had better overall pitching than the Brewers stat-wise, though Cubs beat them at their own game of matching bullpen vs lineup. Brewers do have a potent offense, but as the old adage goes, pitching and defense win playoff games. Also, we should see more of a “pitching rotation” in this series. Though you never know with the way Counsell uses the bullpen, sometimes to a fault. Cubs in 4. If the series does go 5 games, look for Cade Horton to come off the IL and close it out as he intends to.

SHOW DA FIRE AND PASSION, MY FRENDT!
