Bye-week thread

by

I prefer the NFL adopt a universal bye-week rather than spread it over eight or nine weeks. Maybe after Week 8? Just give every team off for one week and give fans a break. Then again, Roger Goodell and the owners never have any logical thoughts. And yes, I am still annoyed at the oversaturation of this league with extra games, playoff teams and whatever other stupid ideas that they have had.

Now onto our favorite football team. Even if the Bears were 3-1, which is what they should be, I still wouldn’t be excited. So at 2-2, I still don’t see them getting more than four or five total wins on the season. This team is total trash and Ryan Poles has made it worse than his predecessor. That is humiliating. Imagine Ryan Poles being the worst general manager this franchise has ever seen. Even Phil fucking Emery had Pro Bowlers that he drafted. Same for Ryan Pace. Ryan Poles is a dork who is responsible for this franchise having the longest losing streak in it’s history. Twice.

The damn near inaction at the trade deadline has the Cubs facing elimination tomorrow. Shota doesn’t have ground-ball inducing stuff, he needs to work on this in the offseason. I really don’t want Kyle Tucker anymore, he can go look for a half billion dollars elsewhere, his production and injury prone-ness is not worth that amount. They may sneak out a win tomorrow and perhaps Thursday, but I don’t see them coming back all the way and winning even if they do force game 5. There isn’t the same motivation that was there when the team was down 3-1 in the 2016 WS.

Back to the Bears, I see a couple more wins than they would have otherwise as they will be playing both the Ravens and Bengals without their starting pro-bowl QBs, very winnable games. Lamar Jackson is not back until after the Bears play them and Joe Burrow is not back until December. Derrick Henry has also been a big time fumbler lately, and I could see Stevenson, Edmunds, or Edwards getting a key turnover on him.

Well after Wednesday’s nailbiting win and last night’s bludgeoning shutout of the Brewers I have faith the Cubs could win Game 5 tomorrow. Even Kyle Tucker’s power bat woke up. Counsell, please don’t be an idiot, don’t pitch Shota. His velo is down as he is still favoring the previously injured hamstring, that is why he is giving up homers. He’ll be better by spring training after some offseason rehab and adjustments. Colin Rea should get the start with other quality long-relievers like Civale waiting in the wings. I don’t trust Soroka yet. The pressure is on the Brewers to win it at home and the Cubs are feeling good. Can Milwaukee handle it, or will baseball make another appearance at Wrigley Field this October 2025? The NLCS is Monday and it will start at Wrigley or AmFam Field. Both teams had better overall records and also beat the Dodgers head to head with Milwaukee particularly dominating them to a 6-0 sweep. Cubs were 4-3 in those matchups, losing both in Japan as the home team, taking 2 of 3 at Dodger Stadium, then winning both of the remaining games at Wrigley.

As for the Bears, I’m looking for the following players to have a big game:

On Offense: Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and perhaps one of the running backs(wishful thinking)

On Defense: Kyler Gordon, Tremaine Edmunds, and of course Tyrique Stevenson.

I think the Bears take this one, a shrinking injury report and coming off a bye with an accountable head coach for a change. The game will run against the Cubs or Brewers/Dodgers in the NLCS. Well if the Brewers win Saturday I’ll watch the Bears Monday. Otherwise its Go Cubs Go!
