Cubs vs Marlins (4 Game Series)

With the Cubs recent struggles to play consistant winning baseball, this series has trouble written all over it. Florida always seems to get the best of the Cubs. They have a roster full of talented young players that are finding their nitche at the big league level. They have three starters going in the first three games that have little or no experience pitching against Chicago. That does not bode well the Cubs. They are not good going against starting pitchers they have never seen before. Look for a  couple of Cy Young type performances from these guys.

The Cubs will be lucky to gain a split, but I’m expecting more like Florida taking 3 out of 4. After 20 games, the Cubs are sitting at .500. This is about how I think they will wind up at seasons end. 81 wins will not win a division or wild card. No post season for this Cubs team.

Marshall had U-G-L-Y stuff tonight. Too bad it was spoiled by 2003 NLCS Redux. All that was missing was Steve Bartman.

Pathetic. After a month, panic mode seems likely soon.

  2. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Just about everybody on this site knew this team wasnt going to win anything. Then the sheeple from other sites tell us we are morons because of it. Hey sheeple, how is it looking now? When a team wins 97 games last year, you don’t get rid of half the team in the offseason and blame the failures on not having a left-handed hitter. The way I see it, if you can hit the ball and take pitches, then you should be playing.

Enough of this pile of crap. Make changes now or wait until next year. Or the year after.

  3. genrebuster Says:

Wait till next year? Wait till next century? Wait till the world comes to an end?

Jim Hendry is a complete moron, an utter fool. There are many fantasy baseball GMs who could GM him under the table….of course, that’s not saying much.

The Cubs are truly PATHETIC. I feel for the players as this organization has failed them, too….in addition to the fans.

    Sell the fucking team already.

  4. ksmc2000 Says:

I think the end of the world will come before the Cubs win a World Series. Isn’t that suppose to be 12/21/2012? Can’t anybody in that fucking bullpen get anyone out? These days, I have much more questions than answers regarding the Cubs.

  5. Sandberg23 Says:

Well KSMC you are 1-1 so far with the series. Cubs cannot ever hit a young pitcher or shitty pitcher that you have never heard of. I have a feeling you are gonna be 4-4 on this series. The Cubs bullpen is the STENCH of this team. Does anybody have an ERA under 5 in the pen. Truly pathetic and uncalled for. BTW Lou you can wake up anytime and start managing this team. I like how all you hear on the sports talk radio or on T.V. is it’s not time to panic the Cubs will be fine. WTF are these people talking about?? This isn’t the Yankees or Red Sox you are talking about. This is the Cubs you are talking about!! They are always known for finding a way to screw up things. Whether its the manager, GM, or the players.

  6. Carl from Chicago Says:

Hey Fro Dog. I saw your comment over at Fire Ron Turner so came over here and had a laugh.

If you ever want to talk about hosting and stuff send an email or leave a comment over at or how to get off ol’ Kubrick theme.

Keep up and may we both get our sites’ wishes.

Did you see the article on the Trib rating the off season moves of the Cubs? Ouch on Bradley and DeRosa but of course you knew that a long time ago.

  7. erniesarmy Says:

Did you guys hear Pinella’s miserable hand ringing mantra last night? Pinella: “What am I supposed to do?” Waaa….Waaa….Waaaa….Where’s my horses? Dusty anyone?

He bleated this nonsense last year, and the year before! Can’t he take a little responsibility for this mess? He is in charge; I think?

I predicted, after that Arizona series, that I can’t see this team staying out of the cellar this year. Pittsburg has improved this year, and Houston, Cincinnati, and St. Louis own this team. The only team they seem to be able to handle is Milwaukee, and they are better this year.

Let me know when they get a new owner, that’s our only hope.

  8. chucky Says:

    Fuck you Rich Harden.

  9. erniesarmy Says:

You guys ought to go over to BCB and take a gander at the arguing between the real Cub fans who see garbage when they see it, and the “Myopias” who wouldn’t know baseball if it came up and bit em in the butt.

The excuses: “It’s still early.” “Go do something else if you can’t stand to watch the team.” “Stop being so negative.” “The guys will come out of this, you’ll see.” “How do you negative people live with yourself?”

It gets better, but you get the idea. That’s why I left that site last year, the bleating of the sheep over there was like the scream of a thousand harpies!
Seriously, where do those people come from? They are also the reason this franchise has been pathetic for 101 years. Ownership doesn’t sweat it, because those “fans” will always pack Wrigley, win or lose.

Could you imagine Yankee, Dodger, Red Sox, or Cardinal fans standing for this? Why, Pinella and Hendry would have been run out on a rail after last years playoff debacle!

Until real Cub fans get fed up and stay away from the park, and do things like Fro Dog did last year, nothing will change.

  10. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

ksmc2000, that date is irrelevant to any kind of event but I get your point. This organization blows.

chucky, dont blame Harden. He is hurt but this team doesnt have a backup starter like Marquis would have been had he not been traded. So give thanks to Hendry when the teams needs a starter badly to go six innings or so and no one is available.

  11. robert Says:

I am one of the few cub fans besides people on this site who have supported Jason Marquis remember in St Louis when tony would want to save his bp who would he let take the lumps…carpenter no mulder no it was marquis,.. who was our 2 best pitchers down the stretch last year marquis and lilly who were our 2 worst z and dempster I know z threw that no hitter but he sucked down the stretch who got 0 starts in the post season lilly and marquis….remember marquis took a 6 game loosing streak and destroyed it last year with his bat and arm…lou is bitching cause he doesnt have any pitch hitters marquis can hit better than almost all pitchers in baseball and he has power like z

  12. genrebuster Says:

I know most here will agree but it bears repeating: Hendry is an utter moron.

How does he keep his job?
Does he know where “the body is buried”.
Is his his tongue so far up the ass of whoever’s in charge that they can’t think straight?

    Just wondering.

Lou is quickly on his way to becoming PATHETIC. “What am I supposed to do?” baaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I congratulate Jason Marquis for escaping this trainwreck of a dis-organization. Same for Kerry Wood. Same for Mark DeRosa. The Cubs would be fortunate to have all 3, they would be a better team for it.

  13. genrebuster Says:

One more thing: always happy for any Cubs win…but wouldn’t it be nice to have a “lights out closer”? It has been AWHILE.

  14. erniesarmy Says:

It’s not only that, Genre, but you never know what you will get tomorrow!

We have no real closer, we have a small group of bullpen pitchers that could throw well one day, and blow up the next. You cannot have a winning team without someone who comes in and gives you the game you worked so hard to win. Whether it’s a Brad Lidge, a Trevor Hoffman, or a Mariano Rivera, you have got to have someone come out of that pen that you can trust – and the Cubs haven’t had that guy since Bruce Sutter.

The dirty little secret that no one wants to face is that Lou’s only playoff success came with the Reds of 1990, when he had the Nasty Boys; Dibble, Meyers, and Charleton. He hasn’t been close to being a winner in the post season since. And, as much as I wish we did, we have no one close to any of those guys on this team. Plus, he had Barry Larkin and Paul O’Neill in their prime to drive that team to success through sheer will to win. Who on the Cubs comes even close to that?

  15. ksmc2000 Says:

ernie, I remember the time when Lou and Dibble were rolling around on the clubhouse floor fighting. Piniella was a bit more fiesty in those days.

Nice grand slam by scrappy. I’m still trying to figure out where all that power came from. The wind was blowing from left to right and should have knocked that ball down. I had to laugh, he rounded the bases like he knew what he was doing.

  16. genrebuster Says:

ksmc, hmmm maybe scrappy (good nickname) knows what he’s doing…(?)

  17. erniesarmy Says:

Cubs win today 6-1. Good job by Lilly. Nice hitting with RISP. Nice game all around for the good guys.

However, they are still the CUBS, so who knows who, or what, will show up tomorrow. Even if they win 10 in a row, they are still the CUBS! Even if they make the playoffs, they are still the CUBS. If there is a way, any possible way, for this team to blow it make no mistake, they will find it. Why? Because, they are the CUBS!

Let me know when they get a good owner. Until then – clapping lazily while I yawn – yeah, great job guys, uh, whatever.

  18. Dave Says:

TheRiot has more than warning track power, niiiiice. Derek Lee, do that again, but with RISP next time. I wonder if that ball landed yet. Lily pitched well, but two balks today? One of them was a bad call though. Lets start stringing the wins together and make April a fluke. 2-0 in May so far.

  19. Dave Says:

I guess Derek Lee read my post yesterday. The last time I remember a ball going that far is the NLCS in 2003 when Sosa bounced on on the top of that little tower above the batters eye and Kenny Lofton made a funny face before running home.

Too bad for big Z though, I hope he is not out long. Gotta admire his hustle to bunt for a base hit, but a very risky move given his level of fitness.

  20. captain1kirk Says:

Back from Phoenix and must say that the trip was fine and I had great seats but the Cubs sucked. They lost 2 out of 3 with a line- up missing Lee & Ramirez except for the 3rd game when Lee returned to first. We have a very bad bench (miss DeRosa bad). The relief pitching sucked and Dempster is an asshole (based on his exchange with Cub fans). He also had a career year last year and appears to have come back down to his normal suckiness.

I am having a hard time liking Milton Bradley.

It may have been my imagination but this team seems to lack hustle. I did not see the “Cub Swagger” Lou talks about. They looked to be a disinterested bunch. The D-Backs are not that good the Cubs should have had 2 of those games. Haren was just too good for the Cubs and then to get shut out by a guy like Davis that sucked.

Soriano looked good so I will lay off him for a while.

My synopsis of this years model “wait till next year” this team is not better than last years. We are on our way to another century.

  21. robert Says:

a failure to plan is a plan to fail…. when injuries hit the cubs last year aka aram you had dero who could fill in his place who do you have this year…and if z goes down we could have had jason marquis and his 4 1 record and 1 complete game to fill in who do we have this year…who do we have to show for those players 3 minor leaguers and a released basket case thank you moe

  22. genrebuster Says:

    1. How many complete games have we had this year by a Cubs pitcher?

    2. How many did we have last year — not counting the Zambrano no hitter?
