Happy Fathers Day!!!

by

It’s not easy being a dad. One of my rules was that my 14 year old daughter could not start dating until she’s 30. Yesterday, after she finished a kickball tournament, she was walking off in the sunset, with a boy. I’m not ready for this shit yet. Are there any fathers out there that can give me some advise?

    Keith,

I am not a dad at all. But what you say and from personal experience, I do not want to become a dad. I was telling a friend once that if I have a daughter, I would probably plead insanity after killing the first guy she is with.

Anyway, happy father’s day and if I am forgetting some of you, I apologize: Keith, Mike (MadCityMac), JimmyD, Captain Kirk, ErniesArmy, Robert, Sandberg23 and Matt Stairs Superfan.

  2. genrebuster Says:

Happy Father’s day to all of you guys who are.

I have no children…but I am a “daddy” to a Rhodesian Ridgeback (dog)…a person in a dog suit. He is our only child and we are madly in love with him. As protective as I am of him (and he of me) I can only imagine how I would be with a child…I hope all of you fathers have a wonderful day!

  3. robert Says:

    thanks Fro

  4. erniesarmy Says:

Thank you, Fro, I have 4 children; 3 boys and 1 girl, and, boy, does the girl hate being the only girl!

All you guys are great, and you are the best Cub fans on the internet (excepting morons like IrishYeti, and a couple of others), because you, like me, will not stand for anything else except a World Series victory, period! I love Genre’s “tick tock” too, that’s right sheepie it has been 101 Years!

So, what Robert said on the other thread goes for me. They can win 15 games in a row and it means absolutely nothing … NOTHING! Until they win 11 playoff games (in a row would be nice), none of us will be satisfied.

  5. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Thanks Fro. I have one daughter and I can’t believe she is already 3 when it felt like she was just being born yesterday. The time flies.

Now for the funny part of my post…

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-21-sosa-baker-cubs-jun21,0,5772041.story

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Those quotes are just priceless!

  6. captain1kirk Says:

Thank you Fro and I hope all the fathers had a happy day.

I see that Kerry Wood is still helping the Cubs. Can we bench Soriano for a while? I am tired of watching the most inept lead-off man in baseball. How about a compromise, can we bat him eighth?

    Does Marmol have trade value?

Friday when I got home from work I got to see the thrilling Cub victory in 10. Did anyone else notice that half the ballpark cleared out by the 10th inning?
True sheeple Cub fans, Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Fuckers…………

Anyone notice that the young guns are starting to hit and carry the team?

    How about……FIRE JIM HENDRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. MadCityMac Says:

Keith, my “baby” just turned 20, and she’s going out with a 24 yr. college grad. All you can do is give them the guidence, and hope they do the right thing. I think Sammi will be okay! I lucked out; both my girls are the greatest. Father’s Day was great; got to spend time with both my girls, they took the old man out for dinner, and I got a free sundae at Michael’s Frozen Custard! It’s good!

  8. MadCityMac Says:

and thanks Fro! Hope all you other Dads had a great day!

  9. Sandberg23 Says:

Finally a good week of baseball. Don’t know if it means a damn thing or not but:

Thanks Fro Dog! I guess I lucked out and I got 2 boys and that’s it. However my brothers and sisters all at least have one girl and I know some of the stuff they have had to deal with like: the drama, boys, that time of the month and I have to say I’m glad I don’t have to deal with that. So Keith I feel for ya dude. (My dusty impersonation). All I would say is get to know the boyfriend she is dating, so you know for yourself if he’s bad news. You never know he might be a good kid too. For the rest of ya happy belated father’s day to you too.

Morrissey column: Another clueless writer that doesn’t understand:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-22-morrissey-jun22,0,7377202.column.

To all the writers and media in Chicago who don’t understand why DeRosa was given a standing ovation in his first at bat back at wrigley with another team: Yes we all know that he was not a great player or hall of fame player, we are all not that stupid, nor do we think he needs a frickin statue put up for him.

Now the real reason he got the applause is because about 95% of Cubs fans did not agree with the trading of Derosa to another team, therefore the applause for letting him know that the fans did appreciate what he did for the 2yrs that he was here and that we don’t agree with management letting him go. Couple the fact that the team cannot find a back up at third now for Ramirez because of the trade and the dumb ass we got in Right Field who doesn’t know how to count. Therefore the reason for the Standing O he got. I thought someone in the media might pick up on that but basically they just gave all the fans shit for aplauding him, so apparantly there is no one in the Chicago media that understands that. And I would be willing to bet these are the same idiots who don’t understand why Baker gets booed everytime he comes back to Wrigley. I could have wrote a better article than this puke Morrissey.

  11. chucky Says:

I know where we could put that statue:

    STRAIGHT UP MORRISSEYS ASS!!!!!!

  12. robert Says:

I am going to expand on a post I placed on a previous page

Yetti posted you guys were all over lou when the team wasnt hitting what are you going to do win they win the world series

My reply was we have seen this shit before in 84 89 98 03 07 08 we are not going to be happy till they win 11 playoff games (3 in the wild card round 4 in the lcs 4 in the world series)

I was born June 23 1973 for my 11th birthday my dad took me to wrigley field the cards jumped to a 7-2 lead the cubs came back and won the game on 2 sandberg homers.

In 89 I just gotten home from school the cubs were behind the astros 9-0 in the 5th..they came back and won the game

in 98 they fell way behind the brewers Sammy hit two hrs and they won on a Mark Grace walk off homer

last year they fell way behind the Rockies lou pulled all the starters they came back and won it.

Friday before that post was made the cubs fell behind 7-0 and came back and won it…

We have seen this b4 now show us something we havent seen a parade in October that culminates at wrigley field to celebrate the world series..If that happens I will show up in a sheep outfit

  13. MadCityMac Says:

    Morrissey’s a fucking idiot!

  14. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Correct me if I am wrong, but Morrisey is the same asswipe that said the Bears don’t need Jay Cutler.

That comment alone shows that my 3 year old could write a better column than him.

  15. genrebuster Says:

I left my comment after I read the article…how do hacks like him keep a job? I also invited him to get another perspective HERE.

    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  16. genrebuster Says:

NEWSFLASH: They’re not going to win 15 games in a row.

  17. ksmc2000 Says:

As Kris and I were watching the standing ovation for DeRosa, I told her that I wish that Hendry is seeing what’s going on here. The fans were expressing their displeasure of the trade.

I saw that Donald Fehr is stepping down as head of the players union. Maybe Selig will follow his lead and get out. Fucking cowards. Let’s see the list of 104 players in 03 that tested positive. Make it public you chicken shit bastards.

  18. Sandberg23 Says:

Matt Stairs you are correct. Morrissey said it right on Chicago Tribune Live that he thought the Bears acquistion of Cutler was a bad move. Yeah it’s a bad move to try and get a 6’5 220 lb rocket armed qb (as P. Manning would say) to try and solidify a position that has sucked since the leather helmet days. Even if that trade doesn’t work out. I will still be glad as hell that they did that. They are going for it all and that’s all I can ask for as a fan. God knows all us Chicago fans have been screaming for that for years from our organizations.

Genre, I should have left a post on there for him too. Oh well I guess you spoke for all of us on that comment you left for him.

KSMC, that’s what I liked so much about the standing O that DeRosa got. Cause you know Hendry was there and how much more stupid did that make him look?? There is a lot of sheep that go to them games, but there is some real fans that go to the games as well and I will gurantee that was the reason for they’re cheering for DeRosa. Directed right at Hendry.

  19. genrebuster Says:

ksmc. Great post on Fehr, Selig and “the list”…I agree.

Sandberg. My comment was basically “baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh”…and I invited him to stop by here. I guess I omitted “you’re a fucking hack”…my apologies to all, I’ll try to do better next time.

  20. genrebuster Says:

I wonder what happened to bonk and jfucilla (jf)? We haven’t heard from them in a long time.

  21. Sandberg23 Says:

Genre. I wouldn’t have been able to say it any better. LOL!!

  22. Sandberg23 Says:

Bonk and Fucilla probably gave up. I can’t say I blame them. I had my brother check out the site last year and I had him posting but after the latest of debacles last year. He stopped posting! And from what’s going on this year he has basically given up. Can’t blame him either.

  23. jimmyd Says:

    Yeti,
Let’s hear what mindless fucking drivel you’ll spew to back up that useless bag of shit, Gregg. I’m sure that it’ll be something like a) it’s just a game or b) he had an off night or c) you can’t win ’em all. No shit. However, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with your ESTEEMED CLOSER is not going to get you anywhere. That fucking guy swallows whale cock. He ALWAYS walks the first batter he faces. He never strikes anybody out. His shit is weak and eventually he faces a .134 lifetime batter who immediately sticks his man-meat in Gregg’s ass…..and breaks it off. Fucking LOSER!!!!!!!!!!

Again, the starting pitchers should gang rape that pile of shit so he’s unable to ever pitch again.

    Later,
    Jimmy D.

  24. genrebuster Says:

    BRAVO!

  25. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Can someone tell me why this inept organization didn’t try to make a run for K-Rod?

Every closer blows saves every now and then but that guy can shut the door more times than not.

Gregg should go hang out with Wood and Howry. Three useless turds. At least Wood helped this team win over the weekend.

  26. ksmc2000 Says:

Tuesdays game with the Tigers was the last straw for fucking Gregg as far as I’m concerned. I hated the guy from the very first pitch he threw this season, an 86 MPH fastball with no movement that was just screaming, “hit me”. I knew at that point that it was not going to be good. I’m fed up with his sorry fucking ass pissing away good performances by the starters. I know Marmol has struggled also, but I wouldn’t let Gregg anywhere near an ML pitchers mound again. Why the fuck didn’t Hendry beat the Brewers in signing Hoffman.

Hendry needs his ass kicked for bringing in this piece of shit, along with Miles, Gathright, Bradley, etc. The kids that came up from AAA are playing better than these losers.

Yes, I’m more than a little pissed off tonight.

  27. chucky Says:

Somebody tell me again why we had to get Kevin “shitstain” Gregg?

  28. chucky Says:

Oh, and Matt Stairs, don’t forget the illustrious Neal Cotts on your list there!

  29. Sandberg23 Says:

Man I just flushed a Kevin Gregg down my toilet a little bit ago.

  30. chucky Says:

You probably need Roto-Rooter now Sandberg!

  31. Sandberg23 Says:

Any manager that has been watching how bad Kevin Garbage is would know by now that he is terrible. But think back to last year, when Lou was bound an determined to stick with Howry as his 7th inning guy, even though he got fucking torched all season long and he STILL put him on the playoff roster after all of that. That brings me back to Gregg now. He’s not going to move Gregg out of that spot. He’s gonna stick with him till the bitter fucking end or if he actually does make a change it will be too late. Fucking make Ascanio or Guzman (after his dl stint) the closer. These guys could not do any worse then him. GREGG FUCKING SUCKS MORE COCK THAN A WHORE IN A WHORE HOUSE.

  32. genrebuster Says:

If I was GM, Gregg would be finished as of today, no more closing. Color me crazy.

    FIRE JIM HENDRY.

The Cubs are going nowhere until he is replaced. That is my prediction.

  33. Sandberg23 Says:

    Chucky,

  34. Sandberg23 Says:

    Oops damn it.

    Chucky,

  35. Sandberg23 Says:

Did it again. WTF!! That Kevin Gregg I just released must have fucked me up. Chucky the even Rooter rooter couldn’t get rid of that giant turd.

  36. morpheus Says:

Gregg did indeed have an off night. We tend to remember the painful off nights rather than the quiet ones when he just comes in and does his job, so here’s some perspective.

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/greggke01-pitch.shtml

In actuality, he’s blown three (3) saves this year, converting 11 out of 14. His WHIP is 1.375, and K/BB ratio is 2.29. For someone who never strikes anyone out and always walks the first guy he faces, that’s pretty good.

Here’s a nice comparison of closers across the league this year: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/closers

Bottom line: While Gregg has not been lights-out, he hasn’t been terrible either. 11 out of 14 in save opps. Besides, if you hate Kevin Gregg and want him to *not* be the closer, who do you suggest? Marmol with his 1.53 WHIP, 3 blown saves (yep, even though he’s not the closer he’s blown 3 saves) and 1:1 K/BB ratio? Guzman might be a better choice, assuming he can stay healthy, but do you really want him closing? Patton? Heilman?

Trevor Hoffman? That’s a great pickup… with 20/20 hindsight. The guy’s almost 42, and signed for $6mm guaranteed with an option for a 2nd year. K-Rod? The Mets gave him 3 years and $37 million, guaranteed, and that was before the Cubs had made a decision on Wood. Gregg’s contract? $4.2mm for 1 year (which is about what the Padres offered Hoffman, by the way). If you take a step back and look at the numbers on Gregg, you might be pleasantly surprised.

  37. chucky Says:

    Damn, that’s a hell of a big-ass turd. Hope you’re OK.

  38. Sandberg23 Says:

This is Gregg’s response after the game for blowing the save:

Cubs closer Kevin Gregg sat in front of his locker, face buried in his hands, rewinding in his mind the final pitch he threw Tuesday.

”Geez, I could have hit that ball out of the park,” Gregg said of pinch hitter Ryan Raburn’s walk-off, two-run home run with one out in the ninth inning that gave the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 victory. ”That slipped out of my hand. Kind of one of those ones you just hope he pops it up. He popped it up right over the fence. It sucks.”

Hmm.. I guess the ball must slip out of you’re hand a lot then huh Kevin?? Is that from all the damn KY you are using on Lou’s manshaft so you can keep you’re closers job?

  39. chucky Says:

If Lou doesn’t bench this douchebag permantly, I’m done with him.

Ha. Since it didn’t put up my comment as I first posted it, I re-posted it, and so now, 10 minutes later, it’s put ALL of them up. Sorry for the multiple posts of the same thought.

  46. Irish Yeti Says:

Godammit morph you stupid fucking faggot

  47. morpheus Says:

One more thing, though, ksmc… I have a 15-year-old daughter. You have to get used to the idea that your daughter is going to date. Sorry, man. Hopefully you have given her the tools she needs to make the right decisions about who to date and how far to let them go… but any attempt to stop her from dating will only result in her going behind your back. And likely with someone you really, really *don’t* want her to date.

  48. Sandberg23 Says:

To answer you’re question Morpheus. Yes I would rather have anybody closing in that pen then him (outside of Patton which should not be in the majors anyway). I don’t care that he has only 3 blown saves. That’s 11 out of 14 which is 78%. That’s not that great. Plus what about on 2 other occasions that I can think of right off the top of my head where he once came into a game that was tied and lost it and another game he came in with a 5 run lead and single handlily blew that game? Oh yeah those aren’t save opp. so they don’t count right?? C’mon you watch the games right?? I don’t need all his stats to see when he comes into a games he damn near either blows the game or he does. He always has runners on base against him either by walk or hits. How many 1-2-3 inn has he had this year?? Maybe 1 or 2 all season. How about the atlanta game where he is facing Jeff Francour ,who can only hit fastballs, and he grooves him a 90 mph fastball right over the heart of the plate that gets crushed. And he was ahead in the count 1-2!!! Those are examples of shit that don’t go down on stat lines. If you want my personal preference on who should be closing: I say Marmol. He should have been the guy since day 1 and when they screwed around with him during spring training and decided to move him back to 8th inn. set up guy because he pitched in the wbc an wasn’t at camp, I think that got into his head. Closing and 8th inn set up are too entirely different things. Just cause Marmol is kind of struggling right now as 8th inn setup doesn’t mean he would struggle as the closer.

  49. robert Says:

it looks like the sheeple have turned on this team read some of the comments

    http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090623&content_id=5484160&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc

  50. genrebuster Says:

I read a few of those comments and one thing came to mind:

“Friendly Confines”…what the hell is so friendly about Wrigley Field? You could argue that “Wrigley Stadium” is a monument to LOSERS.

“Friendly Confines”…that pisses me off as much as “Lovable Losers”.

  51. morpheus Says:

While I agree that it’s easy to point to anecdotes where Gregg screwed up, his overall numbers have been pretty good. Yeah, 11 out of 14 is not ideal, but he’s still pitched better than Marmol, for example. The problem with analysis through what you see when you watch games is that human brains don’t analyze things very well that way. We tend to anchor on certain events, especially painful ones, and discount other ones that are less descript. We also tend to have a “confirmation bias” in which we accept the evidence that supports our predetermined hypothesis and reject contradictory evidence. These biases are well-documented. Stat lines are there to keep us honest.

  52. chucky Says:

Gregg sucks major man-shaft. No fucking stat is going to change that.

  53. robert Says:

Earlier this year the cubs lost 8 in a row the final game of a homestand and the 6 on the roadtrip and the first at home after the roadtrip..What started the cubs on that downslide Kevin Gregg Blowing a 9th inning lead against the astros. Even though they won that game that is what started them on that slid…PS it didnt count as a blown save for Kevin Gag me

  54. genrebuster Says:

Gregg has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt (to me) that he should not be closing…but, I’m not convinced that Marmol is the answer (for closer) AT THIS TIME…I think he could have been more effective than Gregg thus far, had he been given the opportunity to close at the beginning of the season (what Sandberg said).

I’m not impressed with Lou, the longer he stays the less impressive he becomes…familiar, huh?

    FIRE JIM HENDRY.

Where’s my fucking bailout? Maybe if I turn into a stinking bum, somebody will pay me a bunch of money.

  55. morpheus Says:

“Gregg sucks major man-shaft. No fucking stat is going to change that.” = “confirmation bias” + “anchoring.”
