The Cubs are preparing for a new season of hopes and dreams. The off-season was rather quiet as Hendry spent most of it trying to undo all of his mistakes from the season before. What he got in return is nothing to get excited about.
The key to any success for this team lies with the overpaid underachievers playing to their potential or better. I leave Derrick Lee off this list. He was the only position player that earned his keep last year.
The way that Hendry has configured this team rests on the core players staying healthy and producing in order to compete for the division. The starting rotation and bullpen remain an issue going into the new season.

So Soriano reports to camp and says his surgically repaired knee is only about 75-80% right now. He claims that he never really tried running hard on it or anything duiring the offseason to see where it is.. Hmm interesting.. Does anybody see this as an excuse coming if this guy starts struggling again?? No to mention I’m starting to wonder about his work ethic. Why would he not have been working out his knee to see where it was at before he came to camp. As far as I am aware he didn’t have any major knee operation in the offseason, whre he should have stayed off it for months. If it was just a minor knee surgury where they cleaned out some loose cartilage he should have easily been back 100% by now and if that was the case then either he has been lazy in the off season or there is something more wrong with his knee and he is going to break down yet again. Does anybody know what the exact severity of his knee injury was last year?? Like I said I thought it was minor..
