Promoting Tice was predictable, and safe. No OC would want this job with changes that may loom next year.
People are still complaining about the GM “restriction” that lovie keeps his job. This will not deter applicants, as many GM’s have kept the coach for at least one year (Mike Holmgren – Eric Mangini).
But I am more concern about Tim Ruskill and that Lovie is seemingly going to “interview” the GM. Bad idea, but we may be inflating Lovie’s actual input.
Continuing from the other thread, we do not need to draft another QB – we did last year. We need a comprable veteran. Drafting another QB who will not play (especially since Lovie refused to let Enderle play) does not make sense. This is what the Bears need to do;
Pick up a Free Agent WR (or two) – there are boat loads out there. A real one, not another Roy Fail or a Drug Kingpin wannabe.
Draft another WR or OL first priorities.
Second – Secondary Help. That kid from Northern Dame looks good. What happened to Daniel Manning? Oh yeah, he caught an INT for Texans.
Third – Pass Rusher. Need one.
Fourth – Another LB. Maybe TE.

Rumor has it that Tim Ruskell will be the GM of the Bears. If this is the case, I’ll make sure to have firetimruskell.com up and running in no time. This is the guy who ruined the Seahawks organization. If they are going to hire this asshole, what was the point of firing Angelo?

It doesn’t make any sense, you would assume that Draft-Kill had his hands on some of Jerry’s picks. He had early success w/ the Seahawks but the last three years he was there was abysmal.
According to Wikipedia, his nephew, still in college, is pursuing a marketing position with the Bears. We have a word for this – Nepotism. Though common in Chicago, is disasterous in Sports.
Fire Ted Phillips, and Fire the Owners if they make this pick. Bring in a GM who will fire Ruskell and send his Nephew pan-handling somewhere else.

In other news, The Theo Epstein crew has flipped 1/3 of the Chicago Cubs roster. Now that is some real change. Not expecting an amazing season or anything. But it will be nice to see some new talent out there.

The Bears finally released a list of who they’re going to interview.
The frontrunner has to be Licht.
Ross would probably be second.
With that list, they better not even THINK of talking to Ruskell, who would no doubt hire Angelo as his assistant.

Tebow mania is a large result of the Media/ESPN selling ratings. He doesn’t, himself, do anything different from a lot of NFL players who also pray on the field.

I would have preferred to see the ‘aints beat the 49’ers. I’m going to the Packer game tomorrow and I’m not too concerned with this match-up. I think the Packers will win handily. That being said, I’m very concerned with the defense of the 49’ers. I don’t think that Alex Smith can hang with the firepower of the Packers, but their defense could make things dicey. The other thing in favor of the Packers is that it’s gonna be much colder than what the 49’ers are used to. That ball gets pretty slick in these conditions and that could really hurt San Francisco’s offensive output. We’ll see. First, the Packers need to take care of business tomorrow. GO PACK GO!!!!

Here are a couple of reasons why I think that the Packers will beat the Giants…soundly.
First, Joe Philbin (offensive coordinator) buried his son a couple of days ago. Michael Philbin drowned last weekend after falling through the ice on one of the local lakes. I think that both the offense and the defense will be dedicating this game to Coach Philbin and the memory of his son, Michael.
Second, I was at the NFC Championship game when Brent threw an overtime interception that allowed Eli Manning and company to move on to, and eventually win, the Super Bowl. There’s no way that Mike McCarthy is going to let that happen again (even though this isn’t the NFC Championship game). He’ll have the players fully prepared and will definitely use that previous game as a motivator.
I’m expecting the Packers to “pile it on”, early and often. In my opinin, the only chance that the Giants have is to trade knockout punches with the Packers. The mentality of the Green and Gold will be, “Hey, we may give up 30 or more points, but we’re gonna score 50…bring it”.
We’ll see in a few short hours. GO PACK GO!!!

Jimmy….I sure hope you’re right about the Packers winning big today. I doubt it will happen, but I always hope in these situations that the Bears are utterly embarrassed by it. Plus, it would be nice to win one this for Coach Philbin. I saw on ESPN that he’ll be there today. I commend him for that.

As far as motivation, I don’t agree that a death in the family will motivate the players more. If you are not already motivated by the time you’re in the playoffs…….WTF!!!??!?!? Rackers just missed a field goal, hit the crossbar. dammit.

Rackers is a terrible kicker for the record. He sucked with the Cardinals and he sucks now.
I cannot believe what is going on as we speak with the Giants and Packers. It’s amazing how the Giants are so inconsistent in the regular season but when the playoffs roll around, they play so well, that it seems like nobody can beat them. See 2007 playoffs.

I don’t think it’s a matter of “counting chickens before they’re hatched”, it’s called making a prediction. My team is the Packers, and I cheer for them accordingly. The reason I have a day job, rather than gambling for a living, is because I’m not a very good predictor. However, I’ll take a 15-1 season and feel pretty good about it. As they say, “On any given Sunday”. The beautiful thing about this is that I’m just a simple fan. Unless I bet on the Packers (and I don’t) the outcome of their games doesn’t impact my financial future…and, therefore my future in general. I’ll get up tomorrow morning and start to look forward to the baseball season. I’m a Cubs fan; I’ve lived a lifetime of disappointment there. It was a great run…but, it’s over. I had a blast at every game that I went to this year….except for this one. The sun will rise tomorrow.

When I read your post, you were clearly looking ahead to the 49’ers (although there was a small disclaimer of taking care of business).
“Any given Sunday” – you make it sound like the Giants win was a fluke.
This reminds me of the quote from a sports writer after the Giants won in 2007. “All this time we were wondering if the Patriots were the best team in History, turns out they weren’t even the best 18-1 team” (that would be DA BEARS).
Your statement that the Pakers would “handily” beat the Giants with the above post made me simmer. It was arrogant from a team that barely made the playoffs, and barely won last year against a poor Bears team with an injured QB and no WR’s.
This NFL is not the same 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Teams are evenly matched up, even a poor team (like the Colts) is one player away from being in the Playoffs next year.
Thus, anyone with a football IQ of 80 would deduce that all the games would be close with the exception of……Denver v. Pats which most knew was going to be a blow out.
On Offense Greenbay matches up evenly with the Giants talent wise. But the Giants were #3 in Offense behind NO and the Pats. In fact, Greenbay was #7 in passing and #3 in rushing (the Giants were #5).
The Giants were, at the least, at the same level or slightly better than the Pack on Offense this year.
Giants were #4 in Defense and the Pack #7.
So, now with the two biggest Overrated teams (the ‘aints and the fudge-packers) out we can concentrate on the real question:
Who will get to or win the Superbowl?
Giants v. 49’ers, I will give the 49’ers a slight edge. I like Harbaugh. Baltimore v. Pats. I will go with Baltimore because I like Harbaugh.
Superbowl Winner: Any team with Harbaugh as their head coach.

They should have just let it play out on paper. Play this game 30 times and it’s clear to see that the Giants would win most, if not all, of them. Of course, I don’t have a football IQ (hell, not even a regular IQ) as high as 80, so it’s quite possible that I misunderstood your intent.
If you’re gonna pick a fight, get your facts straight. What I said was this, “I’m not too concerned with this match-up.” That was my opinion…not a guarantee, not a stone cold lock, not a we’re better than the world claim…just my opinion…as a fan. AND, it wasn’t a “small disclaimer”, it was clearly stated…”First, the Packers need to take care of business tomorrow.” That’s pretty much an acknowledgement that the “W” wasn’t a given.

Based on how the Giants performed at the end of the season (to get into the playoffs) I’m not shocked that they won today.
As for the Packers, congratulations on a great run this year. As a lifelong Cubs fan, I’d be thrilled if the Cubs had achieved what the Packers have since 1921.

My happiness with Green Bay losing is tempered by the fact that the Giants advanced. I can’t believe I would say this, but “Go 49’ers!” I kinda wish Green Bay would have won so SF could have disabused Packer fans of the “Packer weather” myth-though shouldn’t that have died when the domed Falcons came to Lambeau and beat Fav-ruh?
Even though I am happy GB lost, I can’t say I hate them the way I used to. No one on the team really bothers me-maybe Matthews.. I felt kinda sorry for Rogers who seems like a nice enough guy-and dominated for my fantasy team this year. Still, the only team I would have rooted for GB to beat would have been the Te-baggers. Will be nice when my neighbor takes down that “Super Bowl Champs” flag. It was a nice victory lap, but dude, you are closer to St. Louis than Chicago, let alone Green Bay, give it a rest after the Super Bowl.
Please no Giants-Ravens Super Bowl-I won’t watch that.

Just think about it. He called Jimmy D. arrogant. Then he decided to give a bunch of excuses for the Bears losing last year to the Packers and later, gave a bunch of stats that really, don’t mean shit. I have a hard time believing that Tony and Yeti are two different human beings.
The Giants are pulling the same shit they did in 2008. They barely got into the playoffs both years and as soon as they got in, they are kicking teams asses.
Seeing as how both the Packers and Giants are operated, how many here wish the Bears had an organization that was half as decent as these two?

Packers had a better record and were playing at Home. Also they are defending champs. Of course Vegas had them favored. That’s not the point, even if the Packers won this game under the spread, the point is the Giants were going to give them a hell of a claim.
Your post above was cleary looking ahead to the 49’ers game. “Taking care of business” means that you expected them to beat the Giants “handily” as you stated.
You went as far as to describe, in an alternate universe, the probable “cold” that the 49’ers were going to have to play in. The 49’ers arent going to Wisconsin unless they have a ticket. I’m sure some of the players there would love to visit the BBW, or “wimmins” of podunk county.
Theo’s making waves, from advertising, payroll cuts, and pickups. Even if the Cubs stink, you have a good feeling the needle is pointing due North.

No. Not a single excuse, all I mentioned is that they barely won against a Bears team that was really bad. If Jay was healthy, and had a decent Wide-Out, I’m thinking the Bears score the TD they need to tie the game.

What it means, is that the Greenbay Offense was not as good as it was cracked up to be. The Giants, with their run game and three top wide-outs (yes, I would take Nicks, Cruz, and Manningham over any Bears WR) will give anyone a run for their money.

I have to agree with you on that fact that I hated the Packers quite a bit when I was a kid in the 90’s. Those years, the Bears were fucking horrible and Brett fucking Favre would hand the Bears their worse losses year in and year out. It’s hard to dislike anybody on that team now.
There are two possible rematches and one of them you mentioned: Giants/Ravens and Giants/Patriots. Next Sunday should be exciting.

2007: No. 5 seed, dominate playoffs
2008: No. 1 seed, lose first playoff game
2011: No. 4 seed, dominating playoffs again…
The Packers need a lot of things on defense. They need a DL who can rush the passer, faster LBs, replacement for Charlie Peprah, and just a team that plays a lot smarter. I’m not sure why but the players looked so stupid out there, not to mention they kept missing tackles.
