Who would have thought?

by

It was August 1st, 2008. This site picked up where the old one left off. If I thought this place would last longer than a year, I would have probably be called insane. But that seems to be the case. There have been fun moments on here as well as some that weren’t all that great. We’ve spent a total of six-seven years as a group.

This is a site where all of you can write just about what you want, when you want. Anything is up for discussion even if it’s not sports. As every year goes by, I cannot thank all of you guys enough. First off, thanks to Scott and Keith for contributing their own articles on this site. Keith, if you’re reading this, get better my friend and we’ll see you back on here soon.

In the last year, the hits have been up and while we’ve lost some old-timers, we’ve gained many new readers and that is an awesome thing. I know I provide this place for you guys, but all of you keep it running. Some of us has disagreed on some stuff but we keep it friendly and that’s how it always should be. One thing we can all agree on, Chucky’s rants are always the best even if he is a lunatic but he’s OUR lunatic.

Here’s to four more.

Damn! Has it been 4 years already? Seriously though, thank you Fro for doing this for us. It’s good to know I have a place to go to vent my anger and frustration. The alternative in my case would probably be prison! Thanks to you I’m allowed to roam the streets a free man.

And that is as terrifying as it sounds. Happy Birthday Fro.

  2. Pie In The Sky Says:

    Um, Shawn Camp?

  3. erniesarmy Says:

Thanks for all you do Fro. I have thoroughly enjoyed this site.

And the Cubs still stink, from the head (the owner), the body (GM), all the way down to the tail (Manager and Players).

This team is going nowhere in a hurry.

  4. genrebuster Says:

Fro, I’ve been really swamped lately, sorry to not be contributing more. That aside, I greatly appreciate you starting this site after bobbyd disappeared and the old site floundered (eventually disappeared).

And thanks to everybody who has stopped by and contributed to the conversation…old and new. I hope that eventually we’ll all get to enjoy/see the Cubs win it all….wouldn’t that be something!

  5. Yeti Says:

Erniesarmy thinks the Cubs are terrible at the GM/Pres. Of Baseball Operations level? Wowsers

  6. chucky Says:

Yeti….aren’t you the same dumbass who thought Kevin Gregg was “serviceable”.

You shouldn’t “Wowsers” anybody around here numbnuts.

  7. genrebuster Says:

ErniesArmy didn’t directly mention ‘President of Baseball Operations’ in his post.

  8. fallscountanywhere Says:

Awesome, Fro!! Congrats on four years! Mmm, cupcake.

  9. Yeti Says:

No, I suppose he didn’t, Genre. It’s also possible he thinks Hendry is still the GM

  10. genrebuster Says:

    hmmm…you might be right.

  11. chucky Says:

No, he isn’t right Genre. Yeti is never right.

  12. Fro Dog Says:

    Scott,

As always, you can post anything you want at anytime here.

By the way everybody, when in the hell are we going to get this get-together arranged? We’re about five years overdue.

  13. MadCityMac Says:

Fro, thanks! 4 years- holy shit! And yes, thanks to Scott and Keith, and good thoughts to Keith to get well soon. It’s always nice to know that even a lifelong Packer fan is welcome here, but then again, we do all have our collective hatred of all things FanBoy, Moe Hendry, and that toothpick chomping prick; which come to think of it, is how we all ended up here in the first place. So many memories; KKKKory, Freddie “Fuckhead” Bynum, Jackoff Jones, Neifi Perez. I could go on and on but I do not want to throw up in my mouth, even a little. I need to get my old rants back in order- Chucky is a daily inspiration. JimmyD, Robert, and everybody else, thank you as well!

  14. genrebuster Says:

    Well put, Mike!

…KKKKorey (I almost threw up in my mouth when I read that)…ha! For me, not having “nutrub'” Ramirez and “assram” Bynum around has made this year easier to take…

On a different note, I predict that the toothpick chomping idiot’s starting rotation will falter before the end of the season…more towel drills, please…

  15. Dusty Says:

Dude, I’ll fuck it up for my team. I always do! Forget your team. I did it for you guys and before that, in San Francisco. Don’t you worry!

By the way, I STILL don’t have my horses!

  16. genrebuster Says:

correction: should be “Nutrub Bynum” and “Assram Ramirez”…my bad. Cue Mitch.

  17. genrebuster Says:

Fro and Mike, I just found this and a few other posts. I’m going to share a few now, seems fitting as we are celebrating another anniversary here…

FroDogs, you absolutely fucking rock! Pushing the envelope where it is needed my friend! Jimmy D., wondering if you were able to give Douchebag his very much deserved earfull with those great seats last night, and wondering if the brownshirts of the Trib (Andy Frain ushers; are they still there?) gave you the bum’s rush? Enquiring minds want to know!!

Okay, I’m on my (at least) 7th beer, and time to vent. Goodbye to Mark Prior (don’t forget the Vagisil pal!), Kerry Wood (not his fault, but how long must we wait?), Jackoff Jones (cutoff man? We don’t need no stinkin’ cutoff man!!), Juan Pierre (yeah, he’s leading the NL in hits, but down in the 40’s for OBP? Not acceptable! But a good outfielder; Murph thinks he’s headed to the Southside), Dumpster (do I even have to expand on this loser?), ARam (love his bat, WHEN THERE’S NOTHING TO PLAY FOR YOU SALARY WHORE!), Freddy Bynum (“can’t blow Dusty if he’s not the manager now, can I?”), Jim “Moe” Hendry (you gutless bastard; should have fired Baker at the A.S. break), andy macFAIL (I hate him almost as much as Baker; maybe more. A supposed “baseball man” who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about winning; only lining the pockets of his corporate masters – YOU FUCKING WHORE!!), Gene Clines, Sarge, Rottenchild, and the object of our unending vitriol, the Lizard, the toothpick chewing prick, Douchebag, shit-for-brains Dusty Baker!! What fun to hear the news on Monday that “his contract will not be re-newed because we feel the need to go in another direction”, i.e., “Dusty sucks dog balls”.

Guys, we need to keep this going somehow. I’ve gotten to know some of you as friends, most of you as fellow travelers in this insanity that we call Cub’s baseball. I hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it (Christ, can I use anymore metaphors here?) so we can continue as a community (Boycott, no offense!).

Dammit, out of beer! (and I gotta go to work Thursday!) Let’s keep this going, even if Bobby D bailed on us! Good night now!

You guys would not believe it. Security was really tight when I sat down behind home plate. I still managed to get the sign up. I had a little help from everyone around me as well. They all stood up and helped me out. Thanks to anyone who was there. Also, as soon as the game was over, a bunch of security guards came down where my seat was at and I made a run for it. Who knows what they would of done. I will try to get pictures of the game up tomorrow but I am not sure because I have classes all day. Again, thanks everybody.

  18. Fro Dog Says:

Oh my God. You made me flash back to 2006.

I still have the games recorded on video tape of the “Fire Dusty” and “Hendry Sucks” signs that I threw up behind the plate that year. You old timers probably remember this but I still have the Yahoo sports article as well as the Sun-Times piece where they wrote about “That fan with the expensive seats and the ‘Fire Dusty’ sign” that one night. I even recorded the sports segment at the end of the night on Comcast SportsNet where they talked about it and how frustrated the fans were. For those one or two days, I had fame but I had a purpose at the same time.

Yeah. I was still going to watch the game but I purposely paid up the ass (at face value) to get a seat close to that area to make a statement. I think my original seat was a few rows up and in the last inning, I saw the guy in that seat leaving and that’s when I snuck down.

If I find those pictures Scott, I’ll post them up.

  19. MadCityMac Says:

Fro, you DO need to post those pics, and Scott, thanks for the props and posting that old rant!

  20. DVXPrime Says:

    Happy Birthday, Fro Dog!!!

  21. Robert Says:

More good news theo and jed sent another player moe had to have jeff baker sent him to detroit for 2 players to be named

  22. Pie In The Sky Says:

Yup. They also promoted Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters. Once they get rid of Alfonso Soriano then this rebuild is officially underway with young guys playing!

  23. chucky Says:

Robert…..what will Dale Sveum do now when the Cubs face a left handed pitcher. Will he have to start Bryan LaHair? (ByCracky!)

  24. Robert Says:

I dont know what he will do when we play a lefty….one thing i do know is he needs to quit playing his version of neifi perez luis valboner

  25. genrebuster Says:

Do you guys think Sveum will be back next year?

I believe the rebuild is already underway…

  26. Pie In The Sky Says:

No doubt Sveum is back next yr. Unless he loses the entire team within the next two months.

  27. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

With all of these trades going on, one would think that Garza and Soriano will be traded in the offseason. The kids are being called up now. A smart franchise would have started this process of bringing up minor league talent 10 years ago rather than now. I forgot though that non-baseball minded people were running this team beforehand…

Next year is going to be just like this. The starters won’t get run support often and when they actually do, the bullpen will blow it. If this team actually gets to be a contender in the next 3 or 4 years, Sveum will not be here. I think they know he’s just there to fill up space until they get someone who’s not an idiot…

  28. Pie In The Sky Says:

Soriano might be traded this month if they can complete a waiver trade.

Brett Jackson looked solid in his debut. Anthony Rizzo is a stud. Jim Hendry couldn’t find a quality left-handed power bat for nearly 10 years… Theo Epstein might have found one in like a month.

  29. genrebuster Says:

Regardless of how bad things are now, we’re much better off now than we were at the end of last season.

  30. genrebuster Says:

    hehehe http://www.talk-sports.net/mlb/sucks.aspx/Kevin_Gregg

  31. chucky Says:

Genre….what those ingrates don’t understand is that Kevin Gregg is quite serviceable. Stats tell the story here. Just check the stats. He’s not that bad.

  32. JF Says:

Retroactive to 7/31 the Cubs should win about 15 more games before this 2012 disaster ends; 58 wins for the season. That’s my back of the envelop estimate. So far they’ve played 5 games and have won 0.

I just wanted to put a guess together and see how close it comes.

Sveum will be back next season unless he dies. Seriously, nobody is going to be held accountable for this as long as Ricketts can still sell the tickets.

  33. Matt Stairs Superfan Says:

Sveum is a dumbass just like the rest before him. With him continuing to put in the shit that is the bullpen, they have lost at least 10 games for this team. If they were at best, decent, their record is easily, .500. Instead of bringing up more pitchers to see what they can do, they continue to throw out the same garbage.

  34. erniesarmy Says:

Ah, it’s nice to see Yeti is still on drugs. Hey, dude, there is help you know.

Just to let everyone know why guys like Chucky and I always have a healthy does of skepticism when it comes to the Cubs and the, “Hey, we’re on the right track now”, garbage is because we’ve seen this movie before.

I remember when they got Leo “This is not an eighth place club” Durocher to manage in 66. Yeah, they weren’t an eighth place club, they were a last place club! And then there was the “Cubs will shine in 69” total collapse.

And need I mention 84, 89, 03, 07, 08, and all the great things Jim Lefebvre, Don Zimmer, Dusty Baker, Lou Piniella, and our all time favorite Jim “Hey, I got Aramis Ramirez” Hendry was going to do. They too were all going to turn this franchise around and make the Cubs into a “winner”.

I’m willing to give Epstein some time, but I won’t have my fingers crossed. He is just one of a long line of “successful” elsewhere “bums” in Chicago managers and GM’s this team has had for well over 60 years.

Right now this team is a freakin mess! But, we’ll see what happens next year.

  35. genrebuster Says:

    I don’t think it’s drugs…
