Special Thanks to jimmyd for the heads up…so now Prior and Wood, once considered “the future of the Cubs” — was it so long ago (?) — are done.
ALL thoughts on this are welcome…BATTER UP!
jimmyd Says:
Hi All,
How is it possible that I’m the one “breaking” this story; I figured there would have been a thread started last night for this topic. Anyway, here goes (no surprise here):
Mark Prior’s bid to return to the major leagues with the Red Sox has come to an end.
The former Chicago Cubs star was given his release by Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Pedro Beato, the right-handed pitcher the Sox acquired from the New York Mets in the Kelly Shoppach deal.
Prior, 31, made 19 appearances for the PawSox this season, going 1-0 with a 3.96 ERA. But he walked 23 batters in 25 innings, compared to 38 strikeouts.
Later,
Jimmy D.

I actually feel bad for the guy. That cocksucker Baker ran his arm, and consequently, his career, through a meat grinder,
Now, if only somebody could return the favor….
August 18, 2012 at 11:24 pm
I agree (on all counts).
More sadness, courtesy of the Chicago Cubs dis-organization…believe me, they contributed to the demise of Prior….in a big way.

38 strikeouts in 25 innings…too bad he couldn’t keep the walks down……

I remember giving both him and Wood a lot of crap during those years. Then as we all witnessed, it was Dusty who screwed both of them up. Anybody remember that game where Prior collided with Giles from Atlanta when he landed on his shoulder? Dusty sent him back out there the next inning.
I am waiting for someone like Cueto or Chapman for their arm to fall off. We all know Dusty will fuck up their chances sooner or later…

Without a doubt, Matt (Cueto or Chapman). All pitchers should take out a restraining order against the toothpick-chomping bozo.

Just a couple of random question. What the fuck is Starlin Castro spitting out of his mouth all the time? Is it sunflower seeds? And why the fuck hasn’t Dusty Svuem told him to stop? It’s getting about as gross as chewing tobacco.
August 19, 2012 at 2:23 pm
24 starts
0 wins
Hell, I bet Mark Prior could still win a game. Let’s make him our new Rodrigo Lopez! Haha.
August 19, 2012 at 5:00 pm
Why would Svuem care what he is spitting?
August 19, 2012 at 9:47 pm
Yes…I would give Prior a spot on the roster before Volstad. Color me crazy…stupid…whatever.
I’d give him 3 starts and if it wasn’t working, I’d re-evaluate.
August 19, 2012 at 9:47 pm
That said, I’m not lobbying for this.
August 20, 2012 at 8:48 am
Oh, I don’t know Yeti. Maybe because it might (only might. There’s other reasons I’m sure) be possible he’s paying more attention to his sunflower seeds and having fun in his night life than playing fucking baseball? Maybe that has something to do with his recent 3 month slide? He is easily distracted you know. How many times has he been caught not paying attention to the game because he standing around the infield looking for flying saucers with his thumb stuck up his ass?
Or maybe I wasn’t asking you in the first place.
August 20, 2012 at 10:09 am
Since you indicated you’ve seen it happen, I’d like you to tell me how many times he actually has missed a play because he had his thumb up his ass looking for flying saucers.
August 20, 2012 at 10:40 am
Are you as ignorant as you appear? I meant it as a figure of speech you dumb fuck. Now as to the times he’s not had his head in the game he’s playing in, he DID just get ripped a new asshole recently about his not paying attention. Go look it up yourself numbnuts. If you spend half the amount of time and energy into that instead of trying to think stupid reply to me you might see what I mean.
Stupid asshole.
August 20, 2012 at 11:11 am
Is “stupid asshole” a signature for your post? It appears as such
August 20, 2012 at 11:30 am
No you moron. It my name for you.
By the way, how’s Kevin Gregg doing these days.
August 20, 2012 at 11:50 am
He’s about as decent as Latroy Hawkins is for Anaheim. What I find odd is that when they suck with us, why do other teams continue to give players like Hawkins and Gregg chances? Hendry is dumb for signing them but other teams are dumber for signing them after…
Now that’s serviceable!
August 20, 2012 at 5:19 pm
I still suck!
August 20, 2012 at 7:21 pm
Sweetie, you don’t suck. You’re serviceable…in more ways than one.
August 20, 2012 at 11:13 pm
Thank You dear…you, too Yeti!

Chucky –
I don’t give Baker credit for anything but ruining the most important inning in Cub baseball since 1945, inning eight in 2003 against Florida. Having said that I am not sure anyone can be blamed for the arm problems of Wood and Prior. Too many pitchers in both leagues, and on many teams, for one reason or another, come up with arm troubles. I remember Mark Fidyrich of the Tigers washing out after one great year, then there’s Michael Pineda and Joba Chamberlain of the Yankees, and look how careful Washington is being with the kid they have now.
For some reason, conditioning, arm movement, or something else there are guys whose arms simply cannot handle the grueling seasons in MLB.
But, it will be interesting, as you already pointed out, to see what happens with Chapman and Cueto under Dusty’s “tutelage.”
Oh, and Fro, I think the Bears have an excellent chance to win the Central. The Packers have no defense! Just make sure you guys beat the gutless Vikings.
