I have a FEELING that our good friend Genrebuster loves this photo of Lovie Lee Smith. Well, he becomes the problem of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers now.
Rumor has it (and this isn’t a joke), that their new general manager may be, you guessed it, Jerry Angelo. It looks like the band is getting back together. You cannot make this shit up!
January 2, 2014 at 9:11 am
Didn’t ole Jerry “whistle Dixie” Angelo come from Tampa before he trashed the Bears? Leslie Frazier is also rumored to be the defensive coordinator!
Did you see the Bears opponents for 2014 Fro? They get Tampa Bay…..AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!! This shit should be good, to say the least! Seriously, how does hack even get considered for a head coaching gig? Oh boy!!!!!! Here comes the train wreck!

Anyone wanna buy some Bears shit (real cheap) let me know
January 2, 2014 at 10:30 am
A six-year deal? Holy crap. Guys, don’t get me wrong, I love Cutler. But that may be a bit too much. I would have been fine with with the franchise tag or a three years at the most.
January 2, 2014 at 10:54 am
Fro…I think it’s seven.
January 2, 2014 at 11:12 am
I’m sure it’s more like Joe Flacco’s contract where they’ll revisit it after Year 3-4. These contracts always look much worse than they are until you examine the guaranteed money and other details.
January 2, 2014 at 1:11 pm
good, my second fav team is the panters, and i would love to see tampa pick busts and not have an offense every year.
January 2, 2014 at 1:47 pm
Geez. Seven years and $126 million? $54 million is guaranteed.
Like I said, I would have been fine with him coming back for one to three years. Maybe the scouts figured the next few years of college quarterbacks may not be that great? I am not sure. I just pray they have enough money for the defense.
January 2, 2014 at 3:28 pm
Cutler: I’m ok with him being retained…we all know he may not be around as long as his contract indicates.
Lovie: I’ll look forward to seeing that HACK do his “magic” in Tampa Bay…..HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. I have one word for Love………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….(wait for it)…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………PATHETIC. Actually, here’s another one: BARF.
As Fro so aptly stated, “You cannot make this shit up!”
January 2, 2014 at 3:45 pm
genrebuster i conpletly agree. lovie was an idiot. there were dozens of reasons to fire him, i forgot half, but it was mostly he sucks.

I think CS has replaced Chucky as the ANGRY one here.
January 2, 2014 at 5:27 pm
Especially considering that I’m rather happy about Cutler getting signed.
Keep this in mind. This isn’t baseball. That 126 million is NOT guaranteed. Only 54 million. This deal is for 7 years, partly to deflect some of the cap hit, partly to have control over Cutler for 7 years. He might not be here that long. There are no guarantees that he will be. I think this can work, if Cutler can avoid getting too injured. He does have an O-Line now that isn’t trying to get his ass murdered out there.
But let’s say they don’t sign Cutler. What’s plan B? Sign McCown and draft a QB in April? This years crop of QBs doesn’t impress me. Sorry. At best that’s a crap shoot anyway. I still have nightmares about fucking Cade McNown. Trestman is good, but as the saying goes, if you polish up a turd, all you have is a shiny turd. No thanks. For every RG3, Russell Wilson, and anybody else out the you can name, there’s a Cade fucking McNown, or a Ryan Leaf waiting right behind them. Fuck that shit man.
January 3, 2014 at 2:55 am
Reading what the details are now make me feel much better about the deal. I did not know that at first. As Chucky said, the money that is guaranteed is paid in the first three years. After that, they can cut him and not have to pay the rest. If he plays well after that, of course, then they can choose to bring him back. But this deal is great.
It has been said here that the Bears may believe the next few years of college quarterbacks don’t look that great. Unless there is another Andrew Luck out there, I think the Bears made a good decision now. Some of that money that Cutler gets in the first three years is part of the signing bonus too and not a complete cap hit. The Bears will have plenty of money to work with to fix the defense and that is great news.

In other news, I swear to God I will boycott the Super Bowl if these assholes make it back to the game again:

Dvxprime i think we can all agree that we want the 49ers to crush the pack again.
January 4, 2014 at 12:53 pm
Happy New Year.
Fro, have you ever bought Hawks tickets from a scalper outside the UC? Even the nosebleed seats on Stubhub seem ridiculous. Is there much of a counterfeit ticket problem among stadium scalpers?
January 4, 2014 at 1:12 pm
Nemo,
I have never done that. I usually get my tickets when they go on sale with Ticketmaster and that’s for any event. I know when the playoffs were going on as well as the Finals in both championship years, scalpers were out more often. Don’t ever go to Stubhub to get tickets. First, you have to pay for a ticket but then, they charge you “convenience/service fees” on top of that. If you are looking to go to a game, let me know and I can try to get you a pair or whatever you need for face value.
January 4, 2014 at 8:41 pm
Great job Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. One of the better playoff comebacks I have seen in awhile. I think I’m kind of half ass serious about being a Colts fan, I really like the Quarterback, good Head Coach, The owner is kind of a stroke but aren’t they all? Plus they have a nice indoor stadium about 3 hours away in I will not have to freeze my balls off in.
I really feel conflicted about the Cutlet signing, I have been a Chicago Bear fan since I could remember but I just HATE that fucking guy and can’t stand even watching him any more. I am going to stick with my assessment of him that he is not the answer. Maybe he will prove me wrong but I just cant let that dude kick me in the nuts anymore. With his availability issues maybe I can watch Da Bears when the back-up is starting but then they would just put the camera on him and talk about his “potential” every chance they get.
Still Angry.
January 4, 2014 at 11:45 pm
Fro…
This Lovie shit is all too funny. There is only one thing more insane than considering Jerry Angelo for GM and it is this little gem I saw today…too funny!!! Apparently since they hired an “experienced” NFL Head football coach they can take a chance on a first year GM. Apparently this is their way of thinking…..and get this…the guy they are looking at, that seems to be their front runner is…is appealing because of the relationship he has with Lovie…and he is…wait for it…from Angelo’s scouting staff when he was here. I can only think of one thing more insane than hiring Angelo and that is hiring one of his underlings….
you can’t buy comedy like this…..

January 5, 2014 at 12:29 am
Ed, that’s great. Even though the Bears sucked this year, I think they will be much better next year. The Buccaneers will be one less team the Bears will have to worry about if they can contend.
January 5, 2014 at 12:52 am
Certain elements of the Bears sucked this year, but overall it is a much better football team than the one that was 10-6 last year and is definitely heading in the right direction. No one expected the offense to improve that much this past year, no one also expected the D to drop off as bad as it did. They had to try to get another year out of and aging veteran D with no depth. they had no choice. Yes Trestman made some bonehead calls…I submit that Trestman, a rookie NFL head football coach made less mistakes in one season than Lovie would make in a 2 or 3 game stretch. Does not absolve him of his mistakes…but he is definitely going in the right direction.
Bears will be fine…another year in this offense, with an improved D and they will be unstoppable. We are witnessing the birth of a dynasty the likes of which have never been seen in the NFL before..what an exciting time to be a Bears fan
January 5, 2014 at 12:07 pm
Hi All,
This post is not intended to be confrontational…just wanted to make a couple of points.
DVX, I know that you hate the Packers (as do many on this site), but there are still a few of us who post here that are die hard fans of the Green and Gold; keep in mind that the driving force for the creation of this site/blog was the Chicago Cubs…not the Chicago Bears. Only when Fro Dog decided to cease watching/following the Cubs AND after Bobby Z (original creator of this “fraternity”) pulled his final disappearing act, did this become a collective sports forum. Anyway, on to my rant.
I found it quite comical that the photo in the link that you posted (predicting that the Packers would suck in 2013) was a picture of Randall Cobb dropping a pass against a Bears defender…when, in fact, it was that same Randall Cobb catching a 48 yard pass on 4th down to beat those same hapless Bears.
Ed, while I appreciate your enthusiasm for the future outlook of your Bears (and, I must admit that there is great potential), I’m forced to laugh at the notion that “we are witnessing the birth of a dynasty the likes of which have never been seen in the NFL before”. Perhaps you’re too young to remember the old Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys…or, most importantly…the Bill Walsh led San Francisco 49’ers. Those were dynasties. AND, thanks to free agency, salary cap issues, the lack of loyalty, parity, increased talent pool, etc….we will NEVER see a dynasty in this league again. That being said, I can’t even believe that you would consider Cutler to be remotely capable of being able to “drive the bus” of a dynasty. The best we’ll get will be the equivalent of not much more than a couple of years of superiority. One only needs to look at the current (the last decade plus) New England Patriots. Winners…no doubt! Dynasty…hardly!
Notwithstanding, the biggest and best news that has come out recently is that Bill Cowher does not intend to coach in 2014…or, perhaps ever again. The perfect role for him is available right now…for the taking…with the Detroit Lions. If he would have been interested in that job, the Bears and Packers would likely be looking at finishing no better than 2nd or 3rd in the division for the foreseeable future. But…let’s keep in mind…it IS the Lions that we’re talking about here. Talk about “hapless”. No need to even discuss the retardation that comes from “The Land of 10,000 Lakes”…they aren’t going to be a threat anytime soon.
I’m heading up to the game in a little bit…gonna freeze my ass off. Attended the NFC Championship game against the Giants back in 2007/2008. That game was cold…but, this one’s gonna be colder. GO PACK GO!!!
Later,
Jimmy D.
January 5, 2014 at 4:11 pm
Thanks for your advice and your offer, Fro. I missed by one day when tix went on sale this year, and that was all it took. With the weather being bad lately and me having so far to drive, it’s hard for me to plan more than a day or so in advance. I’ll have to see. Thanks, again.
January 5, 2014 at 6:27 pm
Jimmy D, point taken on the Packers fans and the Cobb play. That being said, it is absolutely galling for me as a Bears fan to watch the Auld and Ancient Enemy (Packers) reach the Super Bowl when the Bears had a legitimate shot at keeping the Packers out of the playoffs by beating them at Soldier Field. See: 2010 season finale and 2011 NFC title game.
January 5, 2014 at 6:46 pm
Suck it Jimmy D.
January 5, 2014 at 9:01 pm
Fro Dog,
You seem ANGRY!!! Isn’t that Chucky’s job?
Later,
Jimmy D.
January 5, 2014 at 10:28 pm
Not ANGRY at all. Just giving you some shit since you enjoy giving us it too after some games. It’s all good though. As long as the Seahawks and Chargers lose, I don’t care who wins the Super Bowl.
January 6, 2014 at 6:21 am
Amen to that! I’m dreaming of the Panthers and Colts slugging it out for all the gold in the land…yeah, I know…it’s a dream!!!
January 6, 2014 at 9:18 am
abdallaha92, your assessment of Lovie needs one minor correction: it should be “he sucks” (drop “”mostly”). hahaha
CS, keep up the good work….maybe Cutler will invite you to HIS Thanksgiving dinner đŸ˜‰
jimmyd. good post…tough loss yesterday.
Captain Kirk (somewhere in the universe)….Happy New Year, your post is overdue.
