The Cubs are playing much better since the all-star break.

They need to keep the momentum going…only one more week of bums (Atlanta and Pittsburgh) before having to deal with ACTUL contenders (Milwaukee next weekend).

They lost to Atlanta today. Same problems as always; can’t sustain their offense (totally shut down today), poor middle relief pitching, and inconsistent starting pitching. I’m withholding judgment until after they play Milwaukee. That’s a good baseball team, they’re genuine contenders this year. If Cubs can hold them off, then they’ll make the playoffs.

But, I don’t see them beating the Nationals, the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks, or the Rockies.

Have to agree with ernie. When the Cubs are good, they’re lights-out good. When they’re bad, it’s inexplicable.

For anybody who cares; it’s a four game set a Pittsburgh this week, then a big-ass homestead with Brewers/Mets/Cardinals. The Cubs need to take care of business these next two weeks, ‘cuz the end of the month (away to the Brew Crew and the ‘Birds before ending at Cincy) is brutal as it gets for a defending WS champ in a pennant race.

Also, good job by the Fire and Passion in winning at Montreal this weekend. They need to start pulling some more road wins if the F&P want to go back to the playoffs.

Costa Rica 2, Team Yankee 0. Dafuck?

Yes I know it’s soccer, but do we REALLY want to talk about the Bears at this point?

Welcome to the Cubs, Dillon Maples!

Given all the injuries and the WEAK bullpen, the lead could evaporate quickly.

  5. dvxprime's avatar dvxprime Says:

For the love of God! Can you PLEASE stop shitting the bed, Cubs?

Arrieta’s hurt, the Cubs bats went dark (AGAIN) and the bullpen set itself afire (AGAIN!)

    Happy Labor Day, motherfuckers!

A friend of mine has stated that “the Cubs bullpen is weaker than a kitten”…

He’s right. Where is the leadership?

  7. erniesarmy's avatar erniesarmy Says:

Cubs have just lost 3 in a row to the lowly Braves and Pirates. Bullpen failure again. Maddon failure to address issues intelligently.

Explain to me again how this team is getting to the playoffs.

  8. dvxprime's avatar dvxprime Says:

Well, the Brewers bullpen wasn’t so hot last night either (gave up 8 runs in the last three innings of a 9-3 loss at Cincy).

  9. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

ernie, I’m not sure I have a logical explanation.

I think the bullpen needs to be revamped next year.

A clutch RBI hit in the ninth, and PEDRO FUCKING STROP gets the win in relief.

    Welladay.

Oh, and the NFL starts tomorrow, I guess.

Anybody doing fantasy football this year, to include Draft Kings?

  11. dvxprime's avatar dvxprime Says:

    GODDAMMIT CUBS, WTF???

  12. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

They really must make a statement and win today…and they must do something about their pitching. Completely unreliable at this point.

Yes, the bats are inconsistent….being punched in the mouth repeatedly doesn’t help.

Brewers and Cardinals are smelling blood.

  13. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

Honestly, I don’t expect Cubs to do much…even if they make the playoffs.

    Indians are ON FIRE.

  14. erniesarmy's avatar erniesarmy Says:

I predict both the Brewers and the Cardinals overtake and pass the Cubs. This is how it felt back in 1969. Just like this.

  15. genrebuster1957's avatar genrebuster1957 Says:

I was thinking the same thing, ernie.

    I hope we’re wrong….tick FUCKING tock.

  16. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

Justin Wilson? WTF???? Get some relief pitchers!!!!!!!!!

  17. erniesarmy's avatar erniesarmy Says:

The series against the Cardinals this weekend at Wrigley will tell the tale. If the Cubs lose 2 out of 3, or get swept, you can say “Good Bye!” to the playoffs this year.

But, even if they win 2 of 3, or even sweep the Cardinals, they have a very tough 10 game road trip with 8 games against the Brewers and the Cardinals. They don’t impress me as a team that can win those games.

If the Cubs do make it, it will be by the skin of their teeth – winning the division by 1 game.

  18. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

Yep. Likely a moot point, as the Indians may never lose again!

    tick tock…tick tock…tick tock

  19. genrebuster's avatar genrebuster Says:

    I stand corrected.

SHOW DA FIRE AND PASSION, MY FRENDT!
