Anyone who has been reading this site over the course of it’s existence (18 years) knows that an NFL team needs a defense that can play well in order to win a Super Bowl. The Bears haven’t had one that could stop a team to save their lives during the existence of this website. I promise, I will say nice things in this recap. But this defense had very little to be excited about. This team isn’t going to score 59 points every game or even ever again.
There’s so much to discuss. I am sure I will forget some things. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts as well.
Holy shit. The offense was damn-near perfect. I have never seen the offense play like this ever. There were still times where I was screaming “RUN THE FUCKING BALL” and that will happen. The Bears scored three straight touchdowns at will. D’Andre Swift is showing that his contract extension has been worth it. 124 yards on 18 rushes with three touchdowns. He broke some tackles and had a first down on a reception. He really has been a star for the team.
Kyle Monangai was absolutely outstanding. It wasn’t just the two catches that helped the offense continue drives. He had only 10 rushes for 100 yards with the big run going for a 61-yard touchdown. Him and Swift were a huge part of the scoring today.
Caleb was outstanding. He has some balls for sure. That pass to Odunze where he had to catch it on the back of the defender terrified me. Then the touchdown pass to Kmet was another one of those “oh, shit” moments. Then he used his legs to score two touchdowns with one going 29 yards. He was sacked twice, but he avoided several more due to his athleticism. I do need to be upset about something. Caleb did throw that interception in the end zone that was thankfully called back for an offsides. It was at the 1-yard line. Why the fuck are you passing it? Caleb was given another chance. I was certain him jumping over the line was a touchdown. They didn’t challenge it and then another pass play? Right to Jahdae Walker for a touchdown.
Colston Loveland and Zavion Thomas were not factors in this game. Knowing they weren’t factors and that the Bears still scored eight touchdowns is encouraging. I am sure they will have more involvement next week or soon thereafter.
The penalties were ridiculous. That needs to stop. 12 for 57 yards with many of them being mental errors.
Alright, time for the defense. Just awful. The momentum changed when Jimmy Horn fumbled a punt return that lead to the offense scoring again. I am sure I will forget every awful play. Let’s take a look at the drives. The first was from Luther Burden fumbling the ball. A touchdown in 2:23. After that, I was thinking this was going to be a long day.
The next touchdown for the Panthers? Three plays for 73 yards in 1:17. Three plays for 21 yards in 1:45 after the Bears were stopped on fourth down. Third quarter? Seven plays for 58 yards in 2:26. Then with the Bears up three touchdowns, I still didn’t think it was over because let’s face it, it’s the Bears. The Panthers drive yet again for 76 yards in just 2:27. The game was not yet over. It was 52-37 with the Bears having a third down. Caleb got the defense to draw offsides and Swift had a 28-yard run after to finally put it away. The defense gave up big plays often. This cannot continue. The Bears will have a game where the offense isn’t doing well and the defense will cost it. Giving up 478 total yards is awful. COVER. YOUR. RECEIVERS.
I will give credit to Malik Muhammad for stopping the Panthers right before halftime. As we all know, the Bears have that long-standing reputation of giving up touchdowns on the last drive of the half. So happy to see that not happen for a change.
I won’t complain about Cairo Santos and his terrible kickoffs not ending in the landing zone. This whole new kickoff rule that was put in two years has really been stupid. Cairo has done his job by hitting field goals and extra points.
Okay, I am done here. The Vikings are in town next Sunday.

Yeah, the Bears won’t score 59 every single game. There’ll be games where they’ll struggle to just get 20 points. WHICH MEANS THE MOTHERFUCKING DEFENSE NEEDS TO PULL THEIR GODDAMNED EMPTY HEADS OUT OF THEIR FUCKING ASSES AND GET THOSE OPPOSING RECEIVERS PLANTED ON THEIR FUCKING ASSES!!!!!!! If that bullshit continues they’re going to be in a shitload of trouble. It’s that simple. You cannot give up 35+ every week and expect to win. Yes, I’m glad they won today. But I’m damn sure not going to let the defense off the hook. Fuck all the kumbaya bullshit “Oh the Bears won! They scored 59 points! It was a blowout”. No. Bullshit. If the Panthers had scored 7 points, or even 17, OK, that would be a blowout. They scored 37. If the offense hadn’t shown up with their Superman capes on, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BLOWN OUT! How fucking many yards did they give up? 418. You usually lose when you give up that many yards. Again, the only thing that saved them was the offense, who got 552 yards. Don’t expect that to happen again. By all accounts, if it wasn’t for that offense, we lose this goddamn game.

Totally agree with everything. Not 100% sure I would have gave Swift a 30-plus million dollar three year extension given his age his understandable I thought they offensive line played excellent barring that I think the defense obviously giving up 500 yards is totally unacceptable I thought the special teams played fantastic and then Keller Williams absolutely with the dime throw to come kmet and the second quarter and then two solid run-ins scrambles however the offensive line over performed the defensive line and front seven underperform I expect us to do better and we’re going to difficulty with solid level defenses and more larger powerful offensive of lines
