With the Bears season being over for about three weeks now, does anybody see the point in continuing to play Jay Cutler? The guy clearly isn’t safe with this offensive line. He was once again running for his life just about every time he dropped back to pass. And to be honest, every game the rest of this season is meaningless. There is no point in playing him and risking injury with the possibillity of it having a long term affect.
So call me crazy, but the Bears should start Caleb Hanie or at least give him a good amount of playing time the rest of this season just to see how he can do. I am not expecting much but Cutler clearly isn’t doing the job. I am not writing him off because I know the offensive line sucks along with the receivers not knowing the plays. But still, there is nothing to lose with playing Hanie or any of the other backups in other positions.
And you never know. Maybe there are some players who haven’t seen the field yet that might be able to help this team win in the future.

haha like the new header. Playing Hanie isn’t too bad of an idea. The thing is that all coaches hate the idea of throwing in the towel for whatever reason. I will never understand why guys like Carson Palmer were allowed to play at the end of a lost season on those crappy Bengals teams. Aikman is another good example – he played on some really bad Cowboy teams and got pounded into the ground late in the season when those games meant nothing.

Yes, thumbs up on new header.
Sure, play some different guys…..Hanie included.
Call me crazy if you like but I haven’t given up on Cutler yet…right now this team is so screwed up it really doesn’t matter who the QB is. Hopefully Lovie and Turner are flushed and a new regime gets the team back on track.

I don’t have a problem playing Hanie, but the problem is that in my opinion, Cutler is very soft mentally. Being benched for the last 5 weeks to “evaluate” Hanie may cause Cutler to have a snit from which he may never recover-and the Bears will never get back in trade what they paid to get him.

Good News Bad News The bears traded a first a second and a third in this years draft and a first and a second in next years draft to get cutler….is the glass half empty or half full….Thats a lot of picks but Jerry Angelo would be making them…I dont think there are to many players in the next two years drafts with broken backs coming in…sorry for the double post forgot to change my screen name back

I wonder how Drew Brees would perform with Lovie and Ron Turner calling the shots? He was most impressive vs. New England.
I hear Dick Jauron is looking for a job, as is Charlie Weis…maybe Lovie is next, he should be canned just for letting Ron Turner continue to call plays.

Amen Genre.
If Cutler was to have an actual offensive line this year with an actual offensive coordinator and he was still doing shitty, then we could make the assumption that this guy is awful.
But instead, we might have to wait a year or two to figure this out. That’s why I would say play Hanie just so Cutler doesn’t get hurt or even killed in a meaningless game. This season is lost already.

I’m not so sure on Cutler myself. I think if he is suppose to be as good as everyone thinks or thought he was we would be seeing signs of it, even among the shit that is going on around him. Right now I’m not seeing a qb that I see playing on Sundays and I’m thinking man he’s good but the rest of this team sucks. He is sucking as bad as the rest of them. The Bears recieving core is not good, but look at the Saints wideouts. They are nothing special either. The reason for that is because of Brees. Why are we not seeing at least a glimpse of that here if Cutler is suppose to be that good?? We do seem to have one of the dumbest wr core in all of the NFL so maybe that’s what is contributing to this. Also what is it going to take to get Aramoshodu in the lineup?? Every time this guy gets in he makes some plays. He also had a good repore with Cutler in the preseason. Get this guy on the field and see what he can do.

Just to be clear, I’m not sold on Cutler yet either…I just don’t think we really know how good—or bad—he is…because Ron Turner is a big detriment IMOP….and Cutler hasn’t been here long enough to make a really strong connection with any receivers (enabling him to turn a broken play into a big gain on a consistent basis, like Brady/Moss).
I’m still disgusted with the play calling from the Bear-Colts Superbowl and it hasn’t gotten any better since, has it?
Look at Favre: many thought he was washed up last year…he goes to a solid team and is having a great year, playing like a much younger man.
The garbage is piling up in Chicago….Bears might as well play the remainder of their home games at Wrigley. Angelo, Lovie, Turner, Hendry, Rothschild–at the very least–need to go.
Take out the fucking garbage already, it stinks.

Yeah. I just made that comment about Hanie playing because of the crap that is going on right now. I just don’t want any of the internet turds reading the article I wrote and assume that I think Hanie is better than Cutler. I don’t think he is and I don’t think he will ever be. But let’s see if he has a future as a backup for this team.
Changes need to be made.

lets see since ms howell has been in charge of the bears your offensive cordinators have been terry shea john shoop and ron turner
December 1, 2009 at 5:31 pm
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t John Shoop part of the Dick Jauron regime? I don’t recall Shoop working under Lovie Howell.
Like I said, I might be wrong. But at any rate, Shoop was absolutely horrible. He was the one useless prick who makes Ron Turner look smart.

chucky you are right my error but tery shea was just as pathetic

So the Bears signed veteran linebacker Cato June Tuesday. Why wasn’t a move like this made 10 weeks ago after Urlacher’s injury? And they decided to sign this guy after the season had been lost weeks ago.
Can the Bears brass all be fired now? The toilet is getting full.

They signed Tim Shaw right after his injury
December 2, 2009 at 9:40 am
I just had that FEELING that Irish Yeti would say the name “Tim Shaw”.
The problem with that is that he has only played on special teams so far. If I am correct, he hasn’t played linebacker at all this year.
December 2, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Hey Yeti, there is a phone call for you on line 1.
I think it’s Rick Morrissey. He wants to have a “talk” with you.
December 2, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Fuck Rick Morrissey. 90% of Chicago sportswriters are hacks.
As far as Shaw, I was just pointing out that something was done. I’m not saying he was a big-time signing, because he wasn’t. Just pointing it out. As bad as the defense has been, I’d think the biggest areas of issue have been 3/4ths of the secondary and the D-Line. I bought into the whole “Marinelli is a great D-Line coach” crap. Either that was wrong, or these guys are all washed up.
December 3, 2009 at 12:53 am
Yeti, you say that “90% of Chicago sportswriters are hacks”.
Do you have any stats to provide this argument? I figured you would since you have stats for just about every other argument. I am not doubting your argument. You could be right. I just want you to gather some evidence to prove your argument.
Get to it but hurry back…
December 3, 2009 at 2:48 am
I’d rather be perceived as a hack than a silly, self-important and ill-informed pansy. And for the record, just what is it with the “I’d think”? Either you do think or you don’t think, Betty. Figure it out, my followers will alert the media hacks for you. Also, you are fucking nobody.
December 3, 2009 at 2:50 am
Help. My bowl runneth over.
December 3, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Yeti, only 90%?
December 4, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Tim Shaw. LMFAO!! Yeah good example Yeti.
