Milton Bradley traded to Seattle for Carlos Silva

    By Dave van Dyck

The Cubs have finally found a taker for Milton Bradley in the Seattle Mariners.

Bradley was dealt Friday for pitcher Carlos Silva, who is owed a minimum of $25 million over the next two years, and cash. Bradley is owed $21 million for the next two years.

Silva has been a disappointment after signing with the Mariners after the 2007 season. He was 4-15 in 28 starts in 2008 and 1-3 in only eight games last year while spending most of the season on the disabled list with a shoulder impingement.

With Bradley out of the picture, the new Cub priorities will be to decide what to do with Silva, sign a center fielder (possibly free agent Marlon Byrd) and shore up the bullpen.

I’m just glad Game Boy is finished in Chicago. Even if Silva tanks (even lower than he has).

Too bad this bullshit even had to happen.

  6. Nemo Says:

I’m so used to ignoring what Yeti posts-besides he buried the lead.
Certainly I am not excited about Silva or his contract-but it is addition by subtraction, plus the Cubs are actually making a little money on this as well.

Yeti, if this deal really upsets you, you can go to hell-on Christmas Eve!! This is a great deal only because the original signing of Bradley was such a bad deal. The pall that fucker cast over this team was worth just cuttting him and eating his contract-and we didn’t even have to do that. Can the Cubs fire Yeti? Maybe you should become a Mariners fan you little prick!! I bet you always dress as the scarecrow for halloween in the vain hope that someone will give you a fucking brain. Go to hell you loser!!!! Maybe for Christmas, Fro will ban your sorry ass from this site.

  7. genrebuster Says:

I heard a rumor that Yeti and his pals Mike D, Dr. Kenny Hosewater and others are meeting in Chicago (at Pizza Hut!!!!) to mourn the loss of Milton Bradley….

  8. Irish Yeti Says:

Yes, Bradley killed this team? Nemo, you are fucking brain-dead.

  9. robert Says:

Lets look at the offseason of 2008 the cubs signed or traded for aaron Heilmann kevin gregg milton bradley and aaron miles…talk about getting the golden sombrero wanna brag about that offseason moe

  10. robert Says:

yetti I am going to agree with you it wasnt just bradley that ruined 09 it was that whole quartet of assholes that were signed plus larry crotchild…lou what do you wnat me to do moe hendry

  11. Dusty Says:

Dude, Milton is coming over for Christmas. All of you guys remember the dinner that Latroy and Jacque had with me in 2006. Remember that? We discussed how all of you guys are just racists. That’s why we never won. Don’t forget that we didn’t have our horses either. Oh well. It’s water under the bridge now.

    Happy holidays…dudes.

  12. robert Says:

now what in the hell made him do that

What’s with the Rothschild hatred? I usually don’t try to hate assistants b/c they really don’t have that much impact on the game, but if you wanted to accuse Rothschild of anything, then you could accuse him of consistently having a top 5 pitching staff for quite a few years now. I’m indifferent to him, for the most part, but I don’t understand piling on him.

The only pitching coach out there that probably does more than provide a neutral net effect would be Duncan

  15. robert Says:

Yetti Duncan is overrated…for every success he has had look at the failures he has had… Capenter was damn good before he got to st louis he just could not stay healthy and Toronto released him…for every pinero there has been a kip wells Jason Marquis has done better without him…remember Leo Mazzone had that hype until he got to Baltimore….kyle lohse had a good year in 08 09 not so great…this year not so good same with wellermeyer…they had 6 players with eras over 4 that appeared in at least 20 games…not dismissing anything you are saying respect a lot of your opinions but duncan is overrated as billy beane….remember for every good trade has has made remember some of these andres eithier for milton bradley….or that 3 way deal with the yankees and angels where he gave up jeremy bonderman and carlos pena and all he got back was ted lilly a good player but bonderman is better

  16. genrebuster Says:

After reading Bradley’s latest comments to the media, I predict that Milton Bradley may never “get it”, unless he gets some good medicine on a regular basis. What is the treatment drug of choice for narcissistic jagoffs? Or is behavior modification therapy the only hope for a complete and lasting recovery?

My problem with Rothschild is that he was the Cubs’ pitching coach while Dusty was burning out Prior and Wood (sorry Dude).

*Perhaps Lawrence was concerned but didn’t speak up (?).
*Or maybe he didn’t think there was an issue (?).
*I suppose we’ll never know…doesn’t matter as it’s water under the bridge (too).

Thanks for the DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! post (Guest). You’re probably right as long as Hendry has a job in Chicago.

    102 YEARS. PATHETIC. tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock…

Santa: “What do you want for Christmas, little boy?”

Little boy: “Santa, I heard that the Cubs have a new owner….it would be really neato to start the new decade with a new GM, too…can I have that”

Santa: “Sorry buddy, wait till next year”

Dear Santa: baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  17. ksmc2000 Says:

Getting rid of Bradley’s sorry ass was worth recieving Silva in return. Just the sight of Bradley last season made the games unwatchable. He was a selfish player that only thought about himself. He was brought in to be a lefthanded hitting run producer, but chose to take too many pitches and walk rather than hit the ball with RISP. I can’t think of any other player in Cub history that was more hated by fans.

  18. robert Says:

you ask why we hate larry rotschild well let me tell you

1 2003 a foul ball was hit in the lcs does larry crotchild come out to talk to prior no like douchebag he sits on his ass

2004 two players latoy hawkins and kunt mercker call the booth during a pennant race does larry or douchebag say anything no

2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 the cubs have lost several games to injuries to the pitching staff…does larry think there is a problem hell no he sits on his ass and does nothing as usual

carlos zambrano acting like a three year old when he doesnt get his way again who should be on a pitching coach

  19. chucky Says:

    Why do I hate “Crotchchild”?

    Two words…..towel drill.

Good name for him Robert. You got my vote!

  20. genrebuster Says:

Keith, well stated….I couldn’t agree more. Even if Silva bombs.

  21. Sandberg23 Says:

i agree with Yeti. Fire that fat bastard now!! I’m not against getting rid of Bradley he was horrible and a problem in the lockerroom. Where I have a problem here is with Silva. This horrible of a starting pitcher is probably going to be in the rotation next year because fat ass probably thinks he just filled a need with a starting pitcher all the while ignoring the fact that this guy is 6-18 with a era near 7 the last to years combined! I’m tellin ya he’s going to be in the rotation next year you watch! I understand that you when you got garbage you may get garbage back in return. But you don’t use the garbage as a recipe to try and make you’re dinner with do ya? At the very least Silva should be in the pen as a middle reliever and only that. But mark my words this guy is going to be in the rotation next year.

Also Robert, Duncan is not overrated. I would take him as the Cubs pitching coach over anybody in a heart beat. That guy takes bums and turns them into bonafide starting pitchers. Piniero, Lohse, Ryan Franklin, Chris Carpenter – (Carpenter was a average pitcher in Toronto), Braden Looper, Jeff Suppan, Woody Williams and lets not forget Jeff Weaver – Who was on the scrap heap that nobody wanted and the Cards pick him up and he pitched good enough for them he won playoff games and even a World Series start as well. Granted there is some guys that have flopped under him but the good far out weighs the bad.

  22. robert Says:

sandbeg carpenter was hurt in toronto…suppan has did what he normally did…would I take him over crotschild in a heart beat…but there is someone who is way more impressive then him and its don cooper of the white sox….that guy got carrer years out of esteban loaiza…neal cotts…dustin hermanson shingo takatsu…brandon mccarthy cliff polite….

  23. genrebuster Says:

Hendry should have been fired long ago…I think we all agree on that.

That said, the fact that Hendry was able to unload that shithead Bradley and get ANYTHING in return is a small positive. $6 million bucks is better than nothing.

Make no mistake: I’m not defending Hendry. My position on him has been clearly stated…”he should have been gone a long time ago”.

  24. robert Says:

Genere when I heard last night how we got milton it made me hate hendry even more than I already do…That asshole agreed to a 3 year deal with Milton at the winter meetings he just said he needed to clear payroll to get him….remember some of the stuff that happened after that kerry wood was let go ( cause Hendry cared for kerrys family and knew he would accept arbitration)….aaron miles was signed dero was traded to get more left handed… marquis for vizcaino…and we didnt get peavy due to the fact hendry wouldnt pay an additional two million….lets see aabreau signs 1 year and ada dunn stays on the market till january….dunn almost had as many hrs as milton did rbis 38 hrs to 50 rbis….

  25. Nemo Says:

To be clear, I am all for firing Hendry, but I am not some useless jagbag who thinks this was the last straw. This was him cleaning up shit and taking responsibility. The fact that this trade HAD to happen is the firing offense (one of many for Hendry).

Lest we forget what a cumstain Bradley was:,0,2018115.story;_ylt=AqcZ1631rvlibYTsQ56k8zwRvLYF?slug=sh-bradleymariners121809&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

  26. Nemo Says:

Clearly the Bears philosophy is “‘Tis Better to give than to receive.”

However, Cardinal George has asked the Bears to stop attending mass because, no matter how long the odds, they can’t stop anybody from converting.

  27. chucky Says:

Buffone and O’Bradovich are beating the living shit out of Lovie Baker. And the fucking idiot has every bit of coming. You guys should hear what they are saying.

  28. genrebuster Says:

I did not watch the game…after reading the summaries, I’m grateful for that.

Lovie has to go, along with Turner. The sooner the better…I say do it now.

Take out the fucking garbage (where have I heard that before?).

  29. Nemo Says:

Quite a few games this week where an eliminated team faced a playoff team or a team vying for the playoffs. How did they go? Well…

Eliminated Atlanta wins at New York against the contending Jets.
Eliminated Oakland (also on the road) comes back late to beat playoff contender Denver.
Eliminated Carolina destroys Minnesota-allowing the Eagles to creep within one game of stealing the Vikings bye.

The Bears? Well, we know how the Bears did. Clearly there are some subpar teams out there with pride and heart that want to win no matter what-the Bears just aren’t one of them.

Even Detroit came back from a 17-0 deficit against Arizona to tie it up. The Cards had to score with less than two minutes remaining to go ahead. The Lions played their 3rd string QB in the second half (and even benched two offensive lineman for false start penalties). “If we had more offensive linemen available we would’ve benched more,” Schwartz said. The Bears layed down today when they fell behind-and they did against the Cardinals too. And the Bengals. And the Vikings. I am not aware of the benching anyone other than taking Knox off kickoff returns. Certainly his play was not the only one Smith deemed unacceptable in this debacle? Was it?

Other teams made statements too-Pittsburgh broke a long losing streak to keep its fading playoff hopes alive against a Green Bay team that will likely win a wild card spot. Dallas, needing a win to keep its wild card bid going strong, went in to undefeated New Orleans and manhandled them for most of the game. I am sure you all know how awful Dallas has played in December for many years now.

What kind of statement did the Bears make? Something along the lines of “I’m tired and want to go home. Wake me when it’s over.” Perhaps they thought the game was just a bad in-flight movie. For me, this season feels like Groundhog Day, and I can’t wait for February 3rd to get here.

  30. chucky Says:

Nemo…I’m sure Lovie Baker has mentioned something about the sun rising this morning.

    Didn’t he?
