Some big questions heading into the 2010 season

How soon till Ted Lilly starts the towell drill
How soon till Jim Hendry sits in the booth and says I dont have any trades completed yet but I am working on a few
How soon till Lou says what what do you want me to do what what
How soon till Carlos Zambrano and Carlos Silva have a competitive eating contest
How Soon till you hear the talk outside of wrigley saying the product on the field is bad but man those bathrooms are awesome
How soon till the ricketts family realizes that they dont need to put a competitive team on the field the sheeple will show up

    Feel Free to add more

You are spot on, on your observations of what direction the Cubs organization is taking. At this stage it seems like it’s more important for Ricketts to make the sheeple more comfortable than to putting a winning product on the field. I thought they would use the Red Sox blueprint to bring a championship to Chicago. Instead, they are more concerned with gold plating the fucking trough and building the Triangle Building right now.

I realize that all the backloaded contracts that Hendry handed out is coming back to haunt him now. They have a 140 mil budget for player payroll, but there is very little left to improve the product on the field. Why Hendry didn’t get fired on the spot is beyond me. He created this fucking mess.

If Moe had half a brain right after the yankees signed cc tex and burnett he would have called the red sox up and said hey what will you give me for z..The way the yankees and red sox play can u top this with each other they would have overpaid for him…Someone will say but z has a no trade clause…he said he would waive it for the red sox…one problem with trying to emulate the red sox…they have Theo Epstein the cubs have moe

  4. genrebuster Says:

robert, you owe Epstein an apology just for mentioning him & Moe in the same post… HA HA HA HA HA HA

On a more serious note, this disturbs me:

If Ricketts really believes all of that…then maybe he’s not so smart.

The bullshit never ends with the Cubs, does it?

  5. genrebuster Says:

On a positive note, at least they unloaded a big bag of crap:

Milton Bradley, who spent the most time in the as the Cubs’ No. 5 hitter last season, hit .217 in with nine RBI and three home runs in 106 at-bats in that spot.

    Really sad news.

Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died today at 26 of a heart attack. I just read the report from 670 the score website and it said he had an enlarged heart. I guess that is from a preliminary autopsy report. Toxicology tests will be out in about two months.

  7. MadCityMac Says:

I’m kinda torn tonight-Blackhawks at Ottawa, but the Sens’ starting goaltender is Brian Elliott, a former Badger. Him against Huet-which Huet shows up tonight?!? BTW, is Jack “I-90” Skille back in Rockford again?

  8. Fro Dog Says:

Skille is back there. He did make a cameo appearance last week when Hossa missed that one game. I read that he made the AHL All-Star team. He is kicking some ass down there. There just isn’t much room for him on this team. He will have a spot in the next year or two for sure. He has a good future. I wonder what they are going to do when Adam Burish and Dave Bolland come back after the Olympic break.

  9. MadCityMac Says:

Fro, the Score guys say that they WILL find room for Burish; it’s just a matter of who is the odd man out. Having watched Burish with the Badgers, it cracks me up that he’s considered an “enforcer” now with the Blackhawks. I never would have thought that about him, but it works!

Something I thought you (and some of the other wrestling fans here) would get a kick out of: I was digging through some boxes at home last night and found a t-shirt that a good friend of mine got for me when he lived in Minneapolis – a shirt from Jesse Ventura’s run for governor! Pretty cool! It has a picture of the back of his bald head, and says “Jesse ‘The Mind’ Ventura, Minnesota’s Governing ‘Body’ “. Love that shirt!

  10. chucky Says:

Too bad Ventura won’t run for President, MadCity. We could use him. He’d be better than anything we’ve suffered though in the past 40 years. (For those of you that are old enough to remember, since Nixon)

You should have that shirt framed and then hang it in your living room!

  11. MadCityMac Says:

Chucky, I’ve heard countless interviews with Jesse and the guy is brilliant! And you’re right about the past 40 years. I may do that with the shirt.

  12. genrebuster Says:

Remember the scene in “Where the Buffalo Roam”…Bill Murray as Hunter S. Thompson with his dog (a doberman?) and the Nixon dummy?

  13. MadCityMac Says:

Scott, I DO remember that! I haven’t seen that movie in years, and even though I’m new to Bukowski, I’m not new to Gonzo journalism; I love HST! I’ve read “Generation of Swine”, “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”, and “Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail”. And if I could get Jesse Ventura to sign that shirt, I would frame it!

  14. genrebuster Says:

Mike, HST had it going on for sure!

Here’s the scene, if you want to get to “Nixon”, jump to 2:00 and enjoy.

  15. genrebuster Says:

Mike, you might enjoy “Born Into This”, good documentary on Bukowski.

  16. genrebuster Says:

Sorry guys, that didn’t work…Fro can you remove the previous post? I’ll try again…sorry for the inconvenience.

  17. MadCityMac Says:

    Scott, thanks for both!
