I want to wish all of you guys a Happy Thanksgiving. I am sure I would forget some of you, so I just wanted to thank all of you as a whole for coming to this website and contributing. I couldn’t pick a better group of magnificent bastards to talk sports with.

    Chucky,

It was too late for me, but I found out last Saturday that Otis Wilson was going to be at a liquor store down the street from my work for two hours that same day. I don’t know even why I didn’t hear about this. I would have closed up work and left. I drove by and a banner was up saying we could meet Otis Wilson there and get an autograph/picture. I immediately thought of you as I knew that was one of your favorite players from back in the day. I am kicking myself.

Fro, I wish for a Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of our frendts here at Fire John Fox.

And, a very slight tip of the cap to the toothpick chomping idiot…after all, he was instrumental in leading us all to this magnificent place on the interwebs.

The air is different now, as the Chicago Cubs are now World Series champs…ha ha ha ha ha!

All the Best, to you and yours.

  3. Dave Says:

Yes, a happy Turkey Day to all. Eat, drink, be merry, and give thanks to all the good things in life. Especially the World Series Champs!

  4. Fro Dog Says:

Thank you, Genre. If you can believe it, it’s been over a decade since we all came together. The original site formed in 2005 and while reading that, I didn’t start posting until the summer of ’06.

I also can’t forget what lead me the old site: I believe it was the old and now, defunct latroyhawkinssucks.com – I think Jimmy D. mentioned reading that site too. I remember it not being updated as much, but someone referenced firedustybaker.com. Along with Hire Jim Essian and Desipio, the rest is history. Time flies.

  5. dvxprime Says:

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody here at Fire John Fox!

  6. Jimmy D Says:

Same wishes from up here in Wisconsin…HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL (yes, even you Yeti).
Fro, you are correct. While firedustybaker.com was the original site (thanks Bobby D.), it was LaTroyHawkinsSucks.com that seemed to be the impetus to originally pull most of the long timers together here. Of course, Chucky didn’t arrive until later…which is probably a good thing. Had he been around back then, he may have gone “full blown Chucky” and killed many, many people.

My memory is not that great, but back then it was Bobby D, FroDog, GenreBuster, Jimmy D (me), Keith, MadCityMac, and a few other ritualistic posters. Man…did we vent/rant on that dumpster fire back then!

By the way, I’m not sure if you guys have heard about this yet…but, the Chicago Cubs are Fucking World Series Champions!!! HOLY SHIT, I still can’t get used to saying that. How glorious is that???

    Later,
    Jimmy D.

Ugh…I remember the Penn St./Illini game that the Illini blew a double digit lead at Happy Valley and lost. it was the day before the Sandusky/Paterno allegations officially came out.

Penn State football should have been fucked for a generation. But no…since their fan base and boosters went on a national crying jag to anybody who would listen (aside from also getting lawyered up big time), now these fuckers are playing for the B1G title game. OSU isn’t going to be champion of their own conference, and they’re still going for a shot at the national title game.

Meanwhile, the Fucking Illini, ever since that fateful day, have blown their shot at a return to relevance (6-0 heading into that game) and will never be more than hopeful for 6-6 and a shit bowl game.

Fuck college football up the ass with a napalm canister.

  8. Fro Dog Says:

The Illini have never been to recover since that season. Ron Zook had them shocking everyone (including themselves) that season when they started off 5-0 or whatever it was. Lovie Smith is a joke so far. They are even worse than last year.

Zook was always given shit because he couldn’t coach. At least the guy could recruit and do it well. There were quite a few players that went into the NFL and are still there from Illinois.

I am done with Penn State. It’s not worth it to rant on those idiots.

  9. Fro Dog Says:

Nice drive by the Bears for the touchdown. Barkley seems to be doing alright. If Jordan Howard could learn how to catch a football and not fumble when carrying it, he’d be a top back in the league. Maybe he will figure it out, but “Rashaan Salaam” just screams in my head when seeing him. Howard is amazing on the run and can run through people. He just needs to learn how to hold onto the damn ball.

  10. Fro Dog Says:

Well, two interceptions by Barkley in the red zone after I said he was doing alright. He’s made some good passes on those drives, but damn.

  11. Fro Dog Says:

Fuck all of these Bear receivers. Fuck them all. God, I hate this team.

  12. dvxprime Says:

Matt Barkley: Yup, he’s a rookie.

Also, how many times has the Bears defense gone AWOL in the second quarter for some reason?

  13. Cbears523 Says:

Thank god Bellamy dropped that pass. Matt barkley played much better than I expected. He threw 3 tds. When was the last time cutler did that?

  14. Fro Dog Says:

I get what you’re saying about Bellamy dropping that pass. But fuck, the whole day they were dropping passes. Barkley put the Bears in a position to win. I just can’t root for them to lose and part of that has to do with the lack of faith in the front office. Whether they pick 3 or 30, it will be a bust.

  15. Cbears523 Says:

We had better lose this week to the 9ers or all of this losing will have been for almost nothing . They had better figure out some way to throw this game because this is the game neither side wants to win. If we lose we have the fast track to the 2nd pick.

  16. Cbears523 Says:

Eventually we have to pick a qb. No one wants to speak up about the elephant in the room. The bears have quarterbackphobia. We have to eventually get over that. I’d love for once for the bears to have the best qb in football and be relevant for 15 years. I believe it will happen in my lifetime.

  17. erniesarmy Says:

“The air is different now, as the Chicago Cubs are now World Series champs…”

No, Genre, I still don’t believe it. I know I will wake up and everything will be back to normal; Cubs will still be lovable losers, and “wait till next year” will be back in the conversation.

  18. erniesarmy Says:

Fro, watching Packers-Eagles on Monday night. Jon Grudem said something that got me thinking. He said, “Packers have multiple first rounders on defense, and the Eagles are marching up and down the field as if there was no defense.” The Bears and the Packers have the same problem; a GM, or President of Football Operations, who have no eye for talent.

Bears and Packers are going to have high draft choices next season, but so what, those drafting can’t spot talent. It will be another wasted draft. Both of our teams are suffering from poor talent evaluators. Cubs fortunes turned quickly when they hired Theo Epstein, a man who could spot talent. We’re both in for a lot of bad seasons of football until that changes.

  19. Fro Dog Says:

What happened to the Packers? I know this was six seasons ago, but they won the Super Bowl with nearly all of their players being their own draft picks. Has their downfall been not being able to continue drafting well or what? Even though they won tonight, it appears that they are on the downfall.

Rodgers still can go another five years or so. He’s not going to get traded/released and shouldn’t either. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in football. It just doesn’t seem like he has any help around him.

Neither does Jay Cutler in that aspect, but at least Rodgers finds a way to win games. The Packers still have a chance for a playoff spot despite their poor play.

  20. Cbears523 Says:

I don’t feel sorry for the packers at all. They have had a hall of fame qb every year on their team since 91 and have only gotten 2 super bowls out of them. I look forward to the day when the bears look at them as 2 easy wins as they have to us over the years. What goes around comes around.

  21. Pie in the Sky Says:

Don’t draft well. Almost never sign free agents, which means the roster is always in a state of rebuilding. The coaches are always trying to develop a roster full of late-round/undrafted free agents that don’t pan out. A stubbornness to never part ways with Dom Capers. Mike McCarthy’s unwillingness to use his ground game, which is partially due to our management team rarely drafting any running backs.

Strange reality is that Packers fans are never allowed to say anything critical about GM Ted Thompson. Wisconsinites view him as some type of Savior. A Lord of the drafting process. He’s more like a glorified scout who’s lost his touch with the talent process the last few seasons. No idea why they’re so loyal to Capers though.

  22. erniesarmy Says:

What he said… Oh, and drafting players that can’t stay healthy after their first year in the league.

McCarthy also has a love affair with the “West-Coast” offense, which has outlived it’s usefulness now that defenses have figured it out. Chip Kelly, another “West-Coast” aficionado, will be on his way out too.

He also has no interest in defense, which is probably the reason Capers still hangs around.

What is happening with the Bears is happening with the Packers; old worn out leadership that needs fresh faces.
