FIRE (AND PASSION) AWAY!

Looks like Harper got paid. 13 for 330M. These teams are crazy.

Speaking of Fire and Passion. the local Major league Soccer team bearing the same name (sort of) lost 2-1 at the Los Angeles Galaxy last night. Because that’s the best that Chicago sports has at the moment.
I am so sick of hearing about Zion Williamson supposedly being the NBA’s Next Great Savior. Supposedly everybody wants him to shut down the only season of college basketball he will ever get so he can better prepare for whatever sorry-ass NBA franchise drafts him next summer. I’m sure the Duke Blue Devils are hated here like everywhere else on the Internet of Things, but c’mon…being coached by Coach K for any length of time would be a basketball finishing school basketball players would kill and die for.
Okay yeah, even Duke’s national champions haven’t become NBA legends, but you get my drift?
As far as I’m concerned, Zion has a 50-50 shot at either leading a team to the NBA Finals in four years (if his GM has any sort of near-term planning and team-building skills) as he does at being out of the NBA after his rookie contract expires.
Oh, yes, and the Black Hawks have since shit the bed since Fro Dog’s last post. Motherfuckers.
Get well soon, Chucky…pitcher and catchers report this week.

//whining continues…
Okay I know soccer is Not Quite the Next Big Thing in the US, but gimme a fucking break! Is it too much to put up a quart soccer/football/futbol site anymore? ESPN radically scaled back their former ESPN Soccernet and just merged it with the rest of their bare-bones ass website. Goal.com used to be good, but there stories are too spares and they are just overrun with ads and videos. Soccerlens.com articles are just “somebody said blah-blah-blah” with no real news, information, previews or game recaps. They’re vine worse than Goal on the ads. Deadspin’s punk-asses killed Screamer, their soccer based micro-site.
Seriously, motherfuckers? It’s 2019, quit making this shit so hard.

DVX, I haven’t watched a basektball game in more than five years. Cannot stand the 3 point shot! It has ruined basektball! If they can’t get off a 3, they stand around and wait for someone to go one-on-one. There is no cutting, no high post, no backdoor, no pick and roll. Everything now is either a three or one-on-one. I can’t wait for baseball to start. And Zion Williamson couldn’t be a bench player for those great Bull, Laker, and Celtic teams of the eighties and nineties.

Agreed with ya’ll. Why would anyone watch the NBA? Half the league tanks before the midway point of the season. Every year, there’s only maybe four possible NBA title contenders with three as major upsets. Almost impossible to gamble. No defense. Rigged officiating. I could go on and on…

DVX,
Yeah. It’s over for the Blackhawks. It sucks too. They made me think they had a chance to make a comeback. Two weeks ago, they were tied for the last spot. Now, they are nine points out. They lost two crucial games against the Avalanche and Stars. After that, it’s been shit.

Ernie,
I made a comment a few years back about how the NBA just sucks these days and yet, I still watch.
All of these idiots clamoring for players to be eligible at the age of 18 is ridiculous. Then, the league wonders why there is no defense at all with the quality of the game being diminished. Players need to learn defense and where do they learn that? In college. If they are in college for two or three years, not only does that give them time to develop their skills. But it also gives them a chance to learn some social skills and responsibility.
If anybody should be able to go get a job after high school, then why can’t people become teachers right after high school? Exactly. They have to go to school until they get their degree and take certification tests.
Players like LeBron and Kobe don’t come by every year.
Of course, this won’t happen. Adam Silver is a fucking hack who is too busy giving in to everyone’s demands. He’s way worse than Stern was.

I’m somewhat torn on the issue. On one hand, no way any player should go high school to NBA. Everyone likes to use the word “projects.” But how often does that work out? They get thrown into the fire right away, fail, then they’re fucked. This isn’t NBA…but look at Josh Rosen. Everyone knew he was a project. Thrown into the wolves his first season. Failed. Now the Cardinals already trading him. Teams don’t wait on projects.
On the other hand, I hate watching these one-and-dones take over college basketball. It doesn’t feel authentic anymore. These super teams Kentucky and Duke make are ridiculous.
NBA needs to make that G-League a true developmental territory. Anyone under 20 goes there for their first year or two. If NBA can’t do that, then either go overseas or require three years of college. Just like football. I like how baseball does it but NBA doesn’t have a legitimate farm system yet…
