The rich get richer and the fans continue to suffer.

Fuck Roger Goodell. Fuck the NFL owners. How many times have I said that over the years?

Last week, it was learned that Roger Goodell received a four year extension as the commissioner of the NFL. That means four more years of adding more regular season games. Four more years of adding playoff teams. Four more years of getting more TV partners to the point where the second quarter of a game will be on a different channel than the first. I assure you, this isn’t sarcasm. I can seriously vision an NFL game between the Dolphins and the Falcons having the first quarter on Amazon Prime, the second quarter on NBC, the third being on CBS and the fourth being on Netflix.

We see oversaturation in every sport these days. But really, the NFL is the lab rat. Other sports follow. Changing rules and adding games and playoff teams is happening in other sports. It’s fucking annoying. Why can’t we just have shit the way it was supposed to be? It’s not simple anymore and it’s all in the name of the mighty dollar.

Being a business owner myself, I know that money is the bottom line. Of course, if I work longer hours, I can make more money. But since I don’t want to exhaust myself, my employees or most importantly, my customers, I am not going to do that. Less equals more. If I keep my hours the way it is, it will motivate customers to see me sooner and within the time frame I am open.

When it comes to the NFL, they don’t give a shit about exhausting customers. Roger Goodell doesn’t give a shit about the safety of players. Eventually, a team will play a game on Sunday and then turn it around to play Tuesday. If it’s going to make him and the owners richer, they will do it.

The players need to fight back. Some in the union will not like that. But it’s time for the union to fight back here in the next few years when the next agreement is scheduled to happen. Fight back to make it 16 games in a regular season again. Fight back to have only six teams in the playoffs per conference. Fight back to have games only on Sundays and Mondays with the only time a game is on Thursday is Thanksgiving. Rational fans are tired of this shit. The game is being ruined all in the name of profit.

This league is a joke. The owners and commissioner are a joke. The only ones who have a voice are the players. It’s their call.

Fro, I agree 100% about what the players and the union fighting back. But that also means it’ll never happen. I think all the shitty things you mentioned are here to stay. Once something gets implemented it’s next to impossible to change it back.

Also, and I don’t really remember if I’ve ever mentioned it here, but I’ve worked out a way to have Thursday night games without the added risk of injuries because of a four day turnaround. I’ll use the Bears just for reference here, and I’ll use their schedule with my proposed changes. The Bears have a game on Sunday, October 18 in Atlanta. Then, they have a home game against the Patriots on Thursday, October 22. Their next game will be, for reasons nobody will be able to rationalize to me, is Monday, November 2, in Seattle. This is some of the dumbest fucking sheduling I’ve ever seen in my life. So this is how it looks.

Oct. 18, in Atlanta. Oct. 22 Patriots. Nov. 2, in Seattle.

This is how I’d rework the schedule without creating added risk to the players.

Oct. 18, in Atlanta. Oct. 29 Patriots. Nov. 8 in Seattle.

Do you see what I laid out here. Yes, it adds an extra week in the schedule, which I think should be tacked on at the beginning of the regular season, but it also has the benefit of giving teams two smaller bye weeks, which I’m sure the players wouldn’t mind. These fucking jack-offs who are creating these goddamned killer schedules obviously don’t give a flying fuck about player safety otherwise they’d schedule Thursday games right after a Sunday game. And why in the actual fuck do they schedule a Monday night game after a Thursday game from two weeks ago? I know drawing up a schedule for 32 teams over an 18 week period, but goddamn, these schedulers have to be some of the dumbest motherfuckers alive. I admit, I’m not the brightest bulb on the string, but I figured that much out! Why the fuck can’t they???? It’s because they’re motherfucking morons, that’s why!
