Happy belated birthday.

Last year on August 1st, this site was started. This should have been written a couple days back but I don’t get around here much often anymore. So I want to say happy belated birthday to this site. And if you are counting the years at the old website, this place is about four years old.

In the one year this site has been around, there have been over 50,000 hits. On a couple of those days, the hits reached about a 1,000. If you type in “Fire Jim Hendry” in Yahoo’s search, this site is the first one that comes up. I am glad that this place is being noticed other than the three people that read it. 😉

I want to thank everybody who contributes to this site. I also want to thank Keith for taking some time out of his day to help out here.

If it isn’t for any of you guys coming here on an almost daily basis, this place isn’t up and running. This is your site as well.

Thank you again.

Thank YOU FroDog. This has been the one place I come to when I need to vent. And after the last couple of days, I’ve really needed to vent.

FroDog…just curious, have you ever gone onto The Score 670AM blog? I was curious as to what you think of it. Thanks again.

  2. genrebuster Says:

I, too have enjoyed this site tremendously…BIG THANKS to you FroDog for continuing to make it happen and for KSMC for helping out…as well as all others who contribute substance — bullshit excluded — HA HA HA HA HA

Looking forward to much ranting or a World Series title, whichever comes first (I prefer the WS title of course)

  3. erniesarmy Says:

Thank you, Fro, and thanks for hanging in there.

But, do me a favor, make sure that moron, “Irish Krishna” or “Yeti Krishna” or whatever his/her name was in the other thread that took up most of the comments section with “Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa…Baaaaaaaaaaaaa…” never gets back on.

  4. MadCityMac Says:

Fro, thanks for all the work, to you and Keith. I still hold out hope that a bunch of us can get together sometime for beers (or Mountain Dew, I don’t know!), and hang out. Keith and I have had beers together a couple times, and Jimmy D. and have yacked on the phone once or twice. As painful as this fucking organization is, we’re all in this together!

  5. MadCityMac Says:

By the way, don’t you love Lou’s comment about Keving Gregg; “what do you want me to do?” I WANT YOU TO MANAGE, YOU USELESS PIECE OF SHIT!

  6. erniesarmy Says:

Giving credit where credit is due dept.:

Wherever the Cubs picked up Randy Wells, they got a gem. This kid can pitch. I especially like the way he goes right after the batter. No walking around the mound, no looking in at the catcher for long periods, just rears back and pitches for strikes.

Whoever taught this kid to pitch (I know it couldn’t have been Rothschild) knew how to teach.

Also, I liked the way Piniella had Theriot sacrifice Fukudome into scoring position, allowing Lee to knock in that fourth run. Dusty would have let Theriot swing a way into a probable double play.

Okay, that’s my positive post for the day.

    FIRE HENDRY!!!!!!!

  7. genrebuster Says:

…I’d bet against Rothschild teaching Wells anything of value. Rothschild should be fired, before he wreaks havoc on yet another Cub arm…

How’s Mark Prior doing? How’s Kerry Wood doing? How’s (fill in the blank) doing?

  8. Fro Dog Says:

Yeah. We should all plan something in the coming months. I know we have all been trying to arrange something with this group for the last few years or so. It would be nice. I know some of the others probably can’t make it since they don’t live anywhere near the Midwest. I believe you, Keith and JimmyD are all up in cheese land so maybe we could all meet up somewhere there or close to the stateline for some beer and ‘Dew.

Plus, you and I need to talk some Big Ten and pro football. Things aren’t looking too good for your Badgers and it is worse for my Illini. Zook can recruit but can’t coach. Juice Williams is a poor man’s Vince Young (college version).

I am going to my first Bears game on October 4th against the Lions. I wanted to go to the first game against the Packers at Lambeau but you probably already know that it is a pain in the ass to get tickets up there.

By the way, in response to Ernie’s post, I banned one person a few weeks back. I said I would never ban anybody but that cock breath bastard had to be disposed of. It was because he kept posting crap after crap and the spelling was awful. For Irish Yeti, let him keep posting for your own laughter.

As far as Irish “Krishnas” goes, that person knows who he is and I just ask that he doesn’t do that anymore.

Chucky, I just checked out 670 The Score’s blog. I knew they had one but it looks pretty good. I haven’t listened in a while. I use to tuned almost all day, everyday at work instead of turning on the TV.

I also noticed they made a lot of changes on that station. Mike Murphy is gone? Danny Mac is on the Score now? Holy crap. I must have been the only one who somewhat enjoyed Murph’s antics over the last few years (I have something wrong with me). On his show, I won a couple Brown’s Chicken coupons and free tickets to a Bulls game a couple years back. Just about every time I called his show especially during “Tool of the Week, he would say “First up and fastest dialer is long time Score guy Fro Dog…Hello Doggy”. After that, he would put the “Wellllll doggy” soundbite on just for the kicks.

I’ll have a Bears article coming up in the next week as well as a piece on pro wrestling.

  9. ksmc2000 Says:

    Thanks Fro,

I’m more than happy to help out on the site. I’m not much of a stats guy. I usually shoot from the hip and post on emotion, which is pissed-off most of the time when the Cubs are involved. It’s great that alot of the core members from the old site have jumped over here. I was afraid that there would be no more forum to continue to talk Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks with yourself, Mac, genre, jimmyd, chucky, ernie, kirk, and all the rest. All of you guys are the engine that runs this site. I’m just holding on to the steering wheel and going along for the ride.

I kinda miss not having Murph at the score anymore. He was one of the few true Cub fans at the station. About a month ago, they brought back Les Grobstein to do the 10pm-1am, and 4am-5am to lead into Mully and Hanley’s morning show. Les is also a huge Cub fan.

  10. chucky Says:

I absolutely hated Murphy. I’m not a big fan of McNeil and Spiegel (at best they’re ok), but I’ll say this much, the line up now is 100% than it was a couple of months ago.

Mike Murphy was annoying as hell, plain and simple. The goofy sound bites, the rudeness he showed to guests and callers alike, and his stupid, insipid, sponsor ads he did drove me totally batshit crazy. I am sooooo happy he’s gone.

I’m in a war with one of his fans now as we speak. An absolute idiot with no writing skills and no imagination at all. We’ve been fighting on Murphs blog for weeks. I use a different handle for that blog. It wouldn’t be hard to figure out what is though!

  11. erniesarmy Says:

“As far as Irish “Krishnas” goes, that person knows who he is and I just ask that he doesn’t do that anymore.”

Thanks Fro, that’s all I can ask.

By the way, I too would love to get together with all the regulars for a meeting sometime. But I live out in the L.A. area, am out of work and very low on money, so flying out to Chicago would be out of the question right now. However, if you were to have some kind of an annual “Fire Jim Hendry” get together, I probably could fly out when things get better financially.

Love this site where REAL Cub fans can congregate.

  12. erniesarmy Says:

    Oh, one other thing,

If you are still reading this thread, Fro, I wanted you to know that I heard your interview on ESPN last year. You sound like a fairly young guy. Anyway, I can totally understand your feelings about this pitiful franchise, and can understand selling all of your Cub memorabilia, but how can you stop being a Cub fan? They have caused me to consider hari kari countless times (I’ve been a fan since 1964), but I can’t stop being a fan. How did you do it?

    Keep up the good work!

  13. erniesarmy Says:

Well, I think we can establish one thing, the Cubs can handle the Reds.

Poor Dusty, he just can’t get the Cubs out of his head.

Cubs still have no bullpen to speak of.

  14. genrebuster Says:

After the hatchet job he did with the Cubs, Dusty doesn’t get my sympathy. As managers go, he is an extremely well-paid bum.

The Cubs need an effective closer. This is getting ridiculous.

Happy for another win…but still reminds me of the recent Nationals and Indians series…

  15. Fro Dog Says:

I appreciate the kind words. I heard about the ESPN thing. I think they mentioned this site and that was the week I had over a 1,000 hits in a day. However, I did not do the interview. Someone got through the line and posed as me and even used both my name here and my real name. I did not get a call from the network.

I haven’t watched any games. I haven’t looked at the scores. I’ve only seen what you guys have posted every now and then and that was to make sure things are going smoothly. People come in to my work and try to talk to me about it and I tell them to just let it go and stop talking to me about it. There are a couple customers who continue to bother me about it and it has been annoying to say the least. I quit for a reason and they just don’t get it. It’s like you quit smoking for a while and then people you hang out with still smoke and they do it around you just to get under your skin. Quitting wasn’t easy but I am doing it as I speak. Just remember Ernie that there is always something better on TV to watch.

  16. erniesarmy Says:

    Hi Fro –

Wow, and I thought I was listening to your voice that day. The guy sounded real young, and I said to myself, “The decision to quit being a fan for such a young guy can’t be that hard.” But, now that you have told me the truth, I realize that your decision was difficult.

I will be honest with you, I am probably going to be done with them myself if they get another owner like the Tribune Co., or Wrigley. You know, like Donald Sterling with the NBA’s Clippers.

So, if they get a decent owner who knows something about running a winning baseball franchise, then I’ll hang in there a while longer, otherwise I’m done. I will, like you, watch something else on TV.

Regardless, one thing I know for sure, this current Cub team isn’t going to win anything.

  17. erniesarmy Says:

Oh, one other thing, Fro –

I happen to be a Green Bay Packer fan myself, started back during the Lombardi era, but I have always respected the Bears (I had huge respect for Gale Sayers, and thought he was one of the greatest backs of all time), more so than the Vikings and Lions. I’ve always hated the Vikings because of Fran Tarkenton.

Anyway, now that the Bears have Jay Cutler, how far do you think they go this year? I think, barring injury to a key player, they have a good chance to go all the way to the Super Bowl. I think the Cutler pick up was huge.

  18. Fro Dog Says:

I’ll add this to the conversation, it was a hard decision at my age (I’m 23 by the way).

Anyway, that’s cool if you are a Packer fan. No hard feelings. You and Mike (MadCityMac) would get along great. He is a fan too I believe of them as he is living up in Madison. I hated the Packers growing up in the 90’s because it seemed like every time they played each other, the score would be 40-3 Packers, 37-6 Packers etc. Don’t forget that quarterback that has now turned into an attention whore who made my childhood a living hell.

Now these days, I don’t root for them but I don’t hate them either. Their team is owned by the fans which is really cool. I actually know somebody in the area that has stock in the team and he gets to go to the share holder’s banquets at Lambeau every year along with tickets to some of the games. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I wanted to go to the season opener at Lambeau but the prices are outrageous.

I’ll have an article up in the next week on how I think the Bears will do along with the rest of the division.

  19. MadCityMac Says:

Frodog, You’re right, I am a Packer fan, actually since 1967 (I was 8!), so yeah, I think Ernie and I would get along great. Hell, when Keith and I had beers together, we even talked about how cool it is that a Packer fan and a Bears fan could be friends. But Fro, think back of the years when the Bears OWNED the Packers before Attention Whore Favre came along. I remember the Bears beating the Pack 61-7 when Ditka was the coach. I can’t remember if Forrest Gregg or Bart Starr was the Packer’s coach then (I hope it was Gregg, the prick!). Bart Starr is still my all-time sports idol, along with Ernie Banks, Robin Yount, Richard Petty, and Wayne Gretsky. He’s the reason I wanted to play QB in high school (I sucked-that’s why they switched me to running back as a sophmore!).

Touching base on sports radio, even up here I love The Score. Murph, I could take him or leave him. I always heard when you called in, so I can understand why you miss him. Mike North I thought was a dick, a fascist, whatever. Don’t miss him a bit. Boers and Bernstein are my favorites. You should hear the shit that passes for sports talk in Madison. The morning show on WTSO-1070 has Matt LePay, who’s the radio voice of Badger football and Bball. Mike Lucas is a hack columnist who actually used to be a journalist, but since he does color for the Badger games, he’s just a Badger whore now. The afternoon guys are even worse- they think by yelling a lot and running their idiotic little soundbites they’re the second coming of those losers on ESPN, and you guys already know what I think of the “journalists” on ESPN.

Finishing this little rant off, I think the Illni have a much better shot than the Badgers this year. Juice Williams will eat the Badgers alive with another year of experience. I’d actually love to see the Badgers go 0-12; then maybe they can fire Barry Alvarez’s hand-picked replacement, Bret Bielema. The guy makes Dusty look bright! They actually had the balls to schedule Wofford (WOFFORD!!!!!) as a non-conference game this year. Thank god I don’t have season tickets or else I’d probably snap having to pay $40 to see that kind of opponent. I hope your Huskies kick their ass- it’s happened before!

By the way, I left out above that Matt LePay is one of the best in the business as a play-by-play guy. We’re lucky to have him!

  20. MadCityMac Says:

I also left out that like Ernie, I’ve always respected the Bears and Bear fans. Their passion is equal to what I see out of Packer fans. Then there’s the idiot Viking fans. I’d like to take that big ol’ alphorn they blow at the Vi-queens games and shove it up their collective asses. Bears fans have a sense of humor, Vi-queens fans do not! I have to go to Minneapolis in 2 weeks to pick up my daughter at the airport, and I think I’ll wear as much green and gold as I can find just to piss them off! And don’t get me going about Gopher hockey fans- knowledgable, but a bunch of douchebags!

  21. erniesarmy Says:

    Hey, MadCityMac!

Good to know I’m not alone as a Packer fan on a Chicago blog!

I became a fan in 1963, the year Paul Hornuing was suspended for gambling, and the year the Bears beat the Giants in the NFL Championship 14-10. Bill Wade was the Bears quarterback, and Willie Galimore was their running back.

My favorite Packer was also Bart Starr, with Ray Nitschke a close second.

Also, I began to turn against that publicity whore Brett Favre after their defeat to the Broncos in their second Super Bowl. But, it definitely ended after the playoff game against the Rams when he threw 5 ints, and his attitude was something like, “So what, that’s the way I play, get over it.” What a great guy, huh? The “Gunslinger” won’t do anything to change his game in order to help his team win. I was ecstatic when he went down in flames with the Jets last year. Good riddance!

  22. MadCityMac Says:

Ernie, I’ll tell ya, I’m quite happy with Aaron Rodgers. I didn’t really turn against Favre until the waffling started. Did you notice about that time was when he really started sucking in cold weather games? The kicker for me was how he looked against the Giants in the NFC Championship game, all bundled up, and out comes Eli Manning looking like it was a regular game; no hood under his helmet! (and Jimmy D. was at that game!) And they’re both from the south!! No QB in the history of the NFL has gotten away with more fuck-ups than Brett, with all the INT’s and stuff. Yes, he did win us a Super Bowl (should have been 2 – Thanks Chmura, you useless piece of shit, for dropping that ball; I still hate John Elway!)

I got to meet Ray Nitschke when I was about 12, at a sales meeting of my Dad’s. I was the only kid there, and he spent something like 20 minutes just shooting the shit with me and gave me an autograph that is about a paragraph long. To this day, it is my most prized posession. I thought I had lost it, but when my sister had her house foreclosed upon, I found it in her basement with some other stuff I has stored there when I got divorced. I opened an envelope, and there it was. I actually started crying when I saw it, and this was about a year ago. He even said in the autograph, “to another Mike McKoy”, since this was right after they had drafted the DT out of Notre Dame, Mike McCoy. I remember that almost like it was yesterday, and it was at least 38 years ago.

And by the way, if Ted Thompson signs Michael Vick, he should be fired immediately.

  23. Fro Dog Says:

How ironic Mike. John Elway was one of my favorite players. The Broncos were my second team obviously next to the Bears. I have a 1967 Broncos pennant hanging up in my apartment.

Anyway, I like Aaron Rodgers. I think he is going to have a big year and his career games will be against the Bears because their of shitty defense.

But for Ray Nitschke, that is really cool he did that for you. You don’t see many pro athletes doing that these days.

Last thing, I just read on ESPN that Thompson isn’t ruling out signing Vick. How stupid is that? Don’t the Packers still have Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm backing Rodgers up?

  24. erniesarmy Says:

    MadCity –

Yeah, I remember the Giant game very well. He blew that game just like he blew the Dallas games – sailing the ball over the head of the receivers into the arms of Dallas DB’s. I was tired of the “Gunslinger” crap, am glad he’s gone!

I am still not sold on Aaron Rodgers yet, I want to see him bring the team back in the fourth quarter. He had a problem doing that when he was at Cal too. He had the Trojans by the neck on a fourth quarter drive, the year they had Bush, Leinert, and co. First down on the 5 yard line, four incomplete passes turns the ball over to USC.

I think he has the talent to be a good one, I just want to see more.

Nitschke was called a “maniac” by some broadcaster and it really upset him. He never wanted to be known as a “maniac” or “beast” or whatever, just a great football player, which he was. We haven’t had a linebacker of his caliber since.

Yep, NO MICHAEL VICK!!!!! Thompson is on a short leash as far as I’m concerned, I did not like his non-moves this off season, and I would also like to know why they still haven’t signed B.J. Rajah?

  25. Irish Yeti Says:

As far as the Irish Krishnas, I think Fro knows (as I do too) that that commenter was one of your own… But whatever, it’s not a big deal to me.

I think I agree with Chucky on something… Murph as bad. After they got rid of North, he was the one I wanted to go next. He was not intelligent at all. He would come up with absolutely asinine suggestions for people to talk about. Yes, he was a Cubs fan, but I always theorized that the Score left him on as the “Score’s Cubs fan” as a mockery to all Cubs fans. Another thing he would do that pissed me off is if he was introducing a topic he would repeat it ten times before diving into it. It was obnoxious… And if someone called in with a response that was dumber than his, he would respond with “I like your angle.”

Boers & Bernstein are the best guys on there, and Mully and Hanley are decent. Sometimes Mully says some stupid shit, but Hanley is generally good. The thing I like about B&B, besides Who Ya Crappin, is the way they dismiss the meathead callers they get. They just call them morons and be done with it. My kind of guys.

  26. chucky Says:

I don’t normally agree with you on many things, but your assessment of Murph and Boers and Bernstein is 100% spot on. I also agree with you about Mully and Hanley. I really don’t mind them.

Murphy absolutely made me want to slice my wrists open. How that guy even managed to get a job there is beyond me.

Their blog is a fucking joke too. My comments now require a moderator to approve of them. And they have a bad language filter on it too to prevent offending the more sensitive bloggers. And about 95% of they bloggers are the dumbest of the dumb asses. These guys wouldn’t know proper grammar if it came up and kicked them in the nutsack. I’m in a war with some dumb fuck who is begging Mitch Rosen to bring back Murphy. It’s beyond pathetic.

  27. Irish Krishnas Says:

    Dearest people,

We apologize for the multiple posts in a previous thread. Our IT connection was messed up, we did not intend for that to happen. You may rest assured, it shall not happen again.

Irish Yeti was in no way involved, he is from a different tribe.

    Peace be with you.

Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs. Go Cubs.
