Bears vs. Vikings Thread

by

We’ve finally reached the end. One of the worst seasons in the 103-year old franchise will be over around 3:00 today.

It’s a simple scenario. The Bears lose and they guaranteed at least the second spot in the draft. They win and risk being as high as the fourth overall pick.

The sooner they draft, the less time we all have to wait on who the next bust will be for this team.

Fro, do you know the date of the draft, by chance? I’m just wondering how long we have to wait to see how badly they fuck this up.

  2. Fro Dog Says:

It’s been a tradition for them to have it on the final Thursday of April. This year, that falls on my birthday. I think the Bears will give me a bust for a present.

By the way, that’s another idiotic decision by the NFL. The drafts were always on a Saturday and Sunday. Now, they have turned it into a spectacle over three days.

  3. John Says:

Chucky, late April usually. I slept in rather than got up to watch. But… Bears down by 10 and Texans up by 10 in the 3rd… there we go!

Fro, it seems that stupid decisions are all the NFL and batshit crazy networks like ESPN are up to. ESPN has a special on every year when the schedules are released, and the over-analyzing is just over-the-top. They spend hours and hours talking about matchups, predictions, guesses as to what certain players will do. It’s all bullshit! There’s absolutely no goddamned way any of that shit can be predicted. I’m old enough to remember when Randall Cunningham blew out his knee in the first game of the season and was lost for the rest of that season. That was like 30 years ago, or so. I wish the NFL would clamp down on that kind of stupid shit. But noooooooooooooooooooooo, they think it’s great advertising for their product. Fucking horseshit.

O’Bradovich is PISSED!!!!! I fear for his sanity, not to mention I’m afraid he’s going to stroke out on air. And they just mention that it’s now official. The Bears have the #1 pick in the draft. Jesus fucking christ.

LIGHT OFF THE FIREWORKS, THE BEARS DID IT! THEY LOST AND THE TEXANS WON! We are officially the worst team in the NFL and we’ve got the #1 pick in the draft! They finally really did it! The Bears have completed the tank of tanks! Wow. The prediction I made in embitterment after the Wahington game ACTUALLY came to pass, save for the Patriots game, which was a win that came out of nowhere, and as it turns out it really did come out of nowhere. (But it was a fun win, I’ll give the Bears that, and it was fun to get hyped for a bit.) Honestly, I had thought the Bears would win a couple pointless games at the end of the season just like they did last year, but THEY DIDN’T! Now we are the WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE! Our days of being stuck in mediocre purgatory are over! I know you hate him but give Ryan Poles credit. He put together a tank far better than Ryan Pace was ever able to do with perfect key trade-offs of our best players. Had he not done that, we would have still sucked but would be picking outside of the top 10. Bear Down to the bottom, boys!

  6. Sebastian Hawks Says:

Well, this has to be a first in my memory, them getting the number one overall. Now just wait for the Meatball talk “Dey outta git dat kid from Notre Dame, he’s a local boy.” Good thing Pace is gone, he’d still be looking for a way to “trade up” and give away the store.

  7. John Says:

This is the first time since 1947 that the Bears have gotten the first overall pick in the Draft. Much like the Cubs, they have not reached the promised land in all their years of awfulness in a long time. Poles has won the Tank Bowl. Not bad for a scorched earth rebuild. Not bad at all. Not even the 2016 Bears can compare. Alright, Poles, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only is this a number one overall pick, but it’s one that is not already spoken for with a QB need. Do not screw up this Draft. I still think we should trade down and hoard every pick we can get. This team needs draft capital for an overhaul, not simply a few good pieces.

  8. John Says:

Oh, split my sides, the January curse got the Packers AGAIN! Only this time, they choked in a playoff game that was OUTSIDE playoffs! Oh man, the Packers. Losing in a must-win game in their own building to a team that has nothing to play for. Yeah, they just got the 2013 experience we got that year from them. Can’t choke in the playoffs if you can’t play in the playoffs. Packers have done the same thing at the same time in the same place for 2023, 2022, and 2021. (2020 doesn’t count because that was in San Fran.)

  9. John Says:

Gosh, after so many years of enviously eyeing other bad teams that get a good #1 pick, or even get them consecutively like the Jaguars did, it feels so great to finally suck for once and get some redeeming value out of it. So many variables had to go right for the Bears to stick the landing like this. They got this pick by inches in the Washington game with the no-catch and Texans 4th down conversion with a two point conversion. The Texans blew their number one position at not just the 11th hour but in the final minute of that hour. (Thank you Lovie Smith.) Like, if the Texans had just knelt down on that play, they would have gotten the first round pick. That’s all they had to do. It has been a glorious day.

  10. USAgent Says:

Unless it’s a QB, then this draft pick really doesn’t matter. After all, we still got Coach Eberflus-er! And Luke! And Alvin, too!

Hard to believe that Lovie Loser was canned after posting a 3-13-1 campaign, yet Eberflus-er still keeps his job at 3-14?

  11. chucky Says:

John, just a cautionary word. Don’t celebrate too quickly. The Bears have been doing stupid shit for over thirty years now. I have no reason to believe that Poles will do the right thing. It doesn’t matter if they keep the pick, or trade down for more picks. Either way, I have a gut feeling they’ll blow it, and blow it badly. History is with me on this. Until they prove themselves, I will withhold my judgement for the time being.

  12. John Says:

Wise words, Chucky. I don’t get the Texans. (Sheesh, you think the McCaskeys are bad?) The Texans management hired Lovie Smith so that, I guess, Mike Tomlin wouldn’t be the only black coach in the NFL, but if they’re going to do that why shove him out after one season? Not just that, the very season after they did the exact same thing before with another black coach. It’s not like he was given a playoff contending roster with an ace QB like Nathaniel Hackett was, yet they still played some very good teams pretty close. Had things gone a little differently, as in, had they actually had a decent QB, they could easily have gone 7-10 or 8-9 or even 9-8, and one of those wins would have been over us. He was as much set up to fail by the front office for this season as Fields was. Geez, they traded away Deshaun Watson, and from what I heard throughout the 2022 offseason it’s that they were planning on tanking on this year all along. What were they expecting? It’s things like these that look really sketchy and raise some eyebrows PR-wise in the Rooney Rule Department. Either give these guys a fair chance, or don’t hire them at all if the only reason you’re doing it is to placate the Rooney Rule and facilitate a diversity hire. This is just so bad.

SHOW DA FIRE AND PASSION, MY FRENDT!
