It was just another ordinary day to start. I took the first half of the day to mow my yard and do some stuff around my house. As usual, I have either The Score or ESPN 1000 on my phone as I’m getting work done. I expected more talk about how the Bears are on pace to be the worst team in the NFL again.
But then, shit started happening. Justin Fields was too honest about how shitty the coaches are. Then later on, he calls reporters in to tell them his words were taken out of context. No. The Bears told him to tell the reporters that because they don’t like it when the truth is spoken. This was clearly shades of what happened to Brian Griese in 2007. Griese pulled a “John Elway” and took the Bears 97 yards for a game-winning touchdown against the Packers on a Sunday Night. He said in the press conference that the ear piece in his helmet went out and he called the plays by himself.
The next day, he has a press conference saying he didn’t actually call all the plays. Lovie Smith and Ron Turner were embarrassed that someone showed that it’s 100% their shitty play-calling and not always on the players. Justin Fields should be doing what I have said on this website for years that players should do: Tell the coaches “fuck it” and do the exact opposite of what they say. If they tell the cornerbacks and safeties to play zone, play man coverage instead. COVER YOUR RECEIVERS YOU FUCKING MORONS. Whatever.
This is systemic. This is a culture. This has been habit for this franchise for what is now a few decades. This entire dis-organization has a long history of lying to the fans and it’s fucking embarrassing. From Sweaty Teddy to Lovie, Angelo, Dr. Death Marc Trestman and Matt Nagy, all have been liars. Of course, no one would give a shit if any of those sad excuses for football coaches would just win some fucking games. But the fact is that all of them didn’t. They were all losers and will forever be losers in football.
Then, the main course for the day: Alan Williams resigns as defensive coordinator. We don’t know what is true. If an attorney for Williams says there is no criminal activity, then I guess we have to take him at that word. I don’t want to speculate necessarily. But if it’s actually for personal reasons such as illness or otherwise that has zero criminal involvement, then he should leave the team.
But all of this chaos today speaks volumes to how this franchise is ran. Just when we think it can’t get any worse, shit like today happens. And we’ve dealt with all of the bullshit from Lovie. We dealt with anarchy of the players by Dr. Death Marc Trestman. And we dealt with the flat-out stupidity and over-his-head coaching from John Fox and Matt Nagy. Being a Bears fan gets worse by the year. Sadly, I didn’t choose the Bears. The Bears chose me from when I was four or five years old. It’s not easy to quit.
But for the love of God, can we please have a stable team with a competent general manager and coaches? Can we please have a team with competent players that runs the ball and have a secondary that can actually cover their receivers? Is this too much to ask for?
And even though the Bears finally cut Nathan Peterwhacker today in the midst of all this garbage, the fact that he was signed THREE times in the last 18 months should tell you that this decision today shouldn’t have ever happened in the first place.
Just. Fuck.
