The short answer is “no.”
Look, I am stoked the Bears won despite the fact that I should schedule an appointment with a cardiologist tomorrow. Yesterday, the Illini pissed all over themselves and ended up finding a way to win. Today, I had a feeling it would be something similar.
The defense did it’s job in the first half. If someone simply looked at the stats (cue Yeti), you would think the Bears would have won by 30. Instead, despite all of the horseshit play-calling by Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams found a way to give the team the lead. Then, the special teams had a miracle in them by blocking Daniel Carlson’s field goal at the end. Bears win.
Caleb Williams was not the best in the first half. He was getting numerous passes batted down with one being an interception. On that same play, DeAndre Swift was wide open down the seem and yet, he was trying to pass to someone else. Again, not all his fault on some of those plays. We all thought after last year, the defense was going to find a way to fuck it up at the end. We as fans of this team don’t get many of these kinds of games where they actually pull it out. So I will enjoy it.
This offensive line is absolute trash. Ryan Poles “fixed” this line? All of that money is wasted. Out of the tens or even hundreds of players who are free agents currently, is there not ONE lineman that is better than any of the five currently playing? This is all on Ryan Poles who signed, traded for and drafted all of these busts. Caleb Williams found a way to win despite this shitty line.
Despite Cairo Santos fucking up in the season opener, he did his job today. Four field goals in awful situations due to the amount of penalties and fuck-ups by the offensive line. It’s like they did it on purpose because they wanted to see Santos kick longer field goals. Must be entertaining to them.
This bye-week comes at a time where maybe these injured players will heal. And maybe when they all come back, they will be competent NFL players. Maybe?
