Why are the Bears desparate for defensive ends when they drafted Austin Booker last year?

March 5, 2025

I find it absolutely obnoxious when I’ve heard on the radio constantly these last couple weeks that the Bears are interested in signing or training for an edge rusher. Even Khalil Mack’s name came up again. We’ve been through this shit already.

THEY DRAFTED AUSTIN BOOKER LAST YEAR. WASN’T HE SUPPOSED TO BE THE GUY TO TAKE THAT SPOT?

Oh, and what about Montez Sweat who they just gave a ton of money to with an extension?

Again, this is the problem. Ryan Poles does not know how to draft players. Making a trade for a 32-year old offensive lineman in Joe Thuney reeks of desparation. It screams “abject failure” with Poles. I am sorry. Thuney may still be good. But 32 is at the tail end of a career for a lineman these days. So they made a trade for a guy who may only play a year or two more?

They also traded a pick for Jonah Jackson. As our friend Dave mentioned in the previous thread, this guy was hurt most of last year. This also isn’t good news despite him being “healthy” now.

I saw enough of Ryan Poles and his chin pubes years ago. I don’t give a shit if Ben Johnson is the coach. The general manager needs to give his coach the best players possible to succeed. It won’t matter because the players who have a history of being hurt are hurt again.

The Eagles have been to two Super Bowls in three years and won this last one. Why? Most of their offensive line was drafted. Their playmakers on both sides of the ball were drafted. Yes, they made a free agent signing here and there that made a big difference. But the majority of their success was in the draft. That’s how teams win.

Not by signing a bunch of free agents and/or trading for veterans past their primes.

This will be the thread for the forseeable future as we are in a down time for this website. Of course, if any news occurs, I will be here when I can to give my thoughts.

Free agency in the NFL is about a month away. Of course, I would say the Bears should just build through the draft like Super Bowl-winning teams do. But I am sure Ryan Poles will spend a ridiculous amount of money on free agents that become busts.

Your thoughts below.

It’s been a rough week for this franchise.

This one stings for me. That 2001 season under Dick Jauron was insane. Some unfortuate circumstances including an injury to Jim Miller in that playoff game against the Eagles messed up any chance they had. But the season that led up to it was crazy.

I was a sophomore in high school. The Bears lost the first game of the season against the Ravens. So it only seemed like the team was set up for another season of abysmal failure. But then some crazy shit happened. Mike Brown had two straight pick-six walk-off games in overtime after miracoulous comebacks just to tie it. They had two winning streaks that resulted in all 13 wins. And yes, sadly, two of three losses were against the Packers.

We all can say what we want about the seasons before or after when Jauron was coaching. But it was incredible to see that turnaround. And to this day, it still seems like the Bears get a season like that every five or six years. Of course, it ends in a horrible way. My only other memory before that of the Bears in the playoffs was ’95 when Dave Wannstedt was coaching.

Dick Jauron was known as one of the real good guys in the game. Well-respected anywhere he went.

And yes, the infamous t-shirt I remember fans wearing of “Hey. That’s my Dick Jauron!” I need to find a shirt like that to wear at games.

With what happened today with this franchise, can this accelerate a sale of the team?

February 6, 2025

I am not going to comment on how Virginia ran the team. So with that, it becomes a simple question of “will this team ever be sold?” With Virginia no longer here, I don’t know how the team board of directors finds the next owner. Maybe George is appointed? And if so, will he want to sell the team?

Let’s be real: The Bears still don’t give me any confidence. The reincarnation of Ted Phillips and Ryan Poles are still here. A sale to someone who knows what they are doing will put this team in a better position to contend. The new owner will do what we all have been wanting for years: To clean house completely.

There has never been a better time to finally sell this team.

Eber-Flush right down the toilet and into Dallas.

January 28, 2025

I do find it rather annoying that guys like Matt Nagy are on teams that succeed despite not having anything to do with it. Now, we shall see what Eberf-LOSE does with the Cowboys as their defensive coordinator.

With the Bears filling out their coaching staff as our loyal friend Dave posted in the previous thread, what are the thoughts so far? For me, I still have every right to be pessimistic until proven otherwise. And apparently, the reincarnation of Ted Phillips had to sit George McCaskey down to convince him to spend a fortune on Ben Johnson. As I’ve said before, I don’t think Geroge is a cheap ass. I think he looks at it from a financial standpoint since he seems to be okay with giving out three-five year deals on coaches. So when they’re fired after two seasons, they are still on the hook for the remaining contract.

The businessman in myself sees this as stupidity. If I buy a new product for my business, I only buy little at the start. Why? Because there is a chance that product could suck and I wouldn’t be stuck with overstock. If it doesn’t sell, I didn’t lose as much.

Maybe give a coach one or two years at the most. That’s more than enough time to figure shit out. That way, when you fire the next incompetent head coach, you may only pay for one year after they are fired rather than two or three.

But what do I know? I’m just a fan.

He’s here. Now what?

January 20, 2025

Ben Johnson is coming to town and bringing Dennis Allen with him as the defensive coordinator.

This is just a start. We can’t get too excited just yet. But the Bears did get the best possible candidate.

Seven picks in the draft coming up. Go draft five offensive linemen and two secondary players. Tell Tyrique Stevenson to fuck off.

Get to work, Ryan.

It doesn’t appear the Bears are doing this coaching search the right way.

January 13, 2025

Instead of limiting it to five or six candidates, the Bears are interviewing everyone from actual coaches to employees at the local McDonald’s. I think they should stick with the workers at McDonald’s.

I just don’t get it. Ben Johnson should be the top choice. Maybe four or five others. Even the so-called “experts” are saying what Poles is doing is fucking stupid. So take that for what it’s worth.

And please, no Mike McCarthy. He’s a nice guy and all. But he couldn’t get the Cowboys with all of those great players to go far in the playoffs since he took over in 2020.

Who I don’t ever want to see with the Bears ever again.

January 6, 2025

Outside of the piss-poor management team of McCaskey, Warren and Poles, there are many others who need to get out of town and not come back.

Before anything else, it is reported that the Bears are interviewing at least ten candidates for the head coach. Only one name matters and that is Ben Johnson. I don’t want Mike McCarthy here and no one else does either. Mike Vrabel can go somewhere else as well. So there’s that.

Now, onto why I called. I may forget some names since this list is long.

Thomas Brown – He took over when the season was already lost. But for some stupid reason, the team looked WORSE. Even yesterday against the Packers, the Bears nearly pulled a “Bears”. He had something to do with that terrible call with the pass play to D.J. Moore for a fumble. Hey dumbass, RUN THE BALL. So obviously, he’s just bundled into the long list of awful play-callers who shouldn’t be calling plays. This entire coaching staff needs to fuck off and the team needs to start fresh.

Tyrique Stevenson – Do I need to tell everyone why he needs to fuck off and go be a dumbass somewhere else?

Gerald Everett – Well, Ryan Poles signed this guy. So I guess I can’t blame him for taking a ton of money to not make blocks and get holding calls.

Any offensive lineman on this team – The entire season, the inability to block was noticeable. They couldn’t even block my fat ass from running past them if I showed up to the practice facility. All of these guys need to go and a new line needs to be drafted. Again, seven picks at the minimum will be for the taking this draft. Use the first five on linemen.

Marcedes Lewis – I am sure he’s a nice guy. But him and I are nearly the same age. And in football terms, that’s awful. He contributed nothing this season. But again, Ryan Poles brought this guy back. So it starts with him.

Who else am I forgetting? Add your thoughts in the thread.

Bears vs. Packers Thread

January 5, 2025

We’ve finally reached the end of another dismal season.

If the Bears win this game, it means nothing. If the Bears lose this game, it means nothing. Caleb Williams shouldn’t even be playing. But he will and I am sure something stupid will happen.

Eight months to go until the next regular season starts.

Greg Gumbel | A legend who will be missed.

December 27, 2024

Tough news today. Greg had roots in Chicago and is definitely a voice of my childhood.

Below is a clip of one of the rare times the Bears actually did something miracalous. Usually, the Bears are the ones who find ways to fuck it up. But not on that day. As we all know, Dick Jauron found a way to get 13 wins for that team and into the playoffs as the second seed. Unfortunately, Hugh Douglas had a dirty hit on Jim Miller in that playoff game and the defense fell apart at the behest of Donovan McNabb as the Bears lost that game.

But I digress. Click on the link below.
