Here is the open thread for the next couple days while I am out of town.
Also, if you any of you are into playing Madden, I got it last night for PS2. I have the demo for PS3 and was hesitating which one to buy but decided to go with the PS2 because the controls are a little bit better to get use to. Some of the new featuers that are in the game will take a while to figure out but overall, it is pretty solid.
FINALLY. Football is finally back. It’s been too long.
Even with Jay Cutler coming to the Bears in April, there are still many questions that still need to be answered. On the defensive side, the secondary is a mess. The Bears don’t seem to have a stable pair that can stay healthy and play well. Also on defense, the health of Brian Urlacher and Tommie Harris is being discussed at training camp. Both say they are ready to go.
With the secondary, there are options some options, but no one really knows if they are good options. Last year, Zach Bowman, who played one game and had two interceptions in that one, broke his arm and was finished for the season. Craig Steltz and Kevin Payne both played but were sucked at times and were injured as well. Danieal Manning is another option although everytime he is on the field, you are just asking for the offense to throw deep. I won’t go into the details but most of you have the Super Bowl and last year’s game against Minnesota for proof why he shouldn’t be on defense. The secondary is a concern. Maybe somebody who we don’t know about yet is in camp and could provide some help for this part of the defense.
Corner backs: Charles Tillman…Sucks. Nathan Vasher says he is healthy and ready to go after an injury-plagued last couple of years. Moving on.
On offense, Matt Forte is pretty damn good. Kevin Jones was resigned to back him up and he is in better shape this camp than last year. He is fully recovered from his knee injury and has lost quite a bit of weight so he is a bit faster.
The wide receivers is still a concern. I read a report in the Tribune that the core is still dropping the ball a bunch of times in camp. And yes, I know it is just camp but if you are dropping the ball wide open with no pressure, that isn’t a very good sign. I do like the drafting of Juaquin “Enrique” Iglesias and I want Earl Bennet to get every oppurtunity to play and even start. Iglesias was Sam Bradford’s number one option at Oklahoma so that is a good sign.
Anybody to start on wide receiver except Devin Hester is fine with me. Hester should just be a return specialist. I don’t know how many times I’ve said last year that he is not an offensive guy. My stance is still the same that Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo ruined this guy’s future. The greatest kick returner of all time was turned into a number four wide out. How shitty is that? Now, if Lovie puts him on offense for a few plays every game, I would be fine with that.
We know this team will be better this year. Even last year with all this team’s problems still managed to go 9-7. And remember, that they should have had three more wins on top of that. This year will be tougher with everybody else in the division getting better. That includes the Lions. The Vikings have Sage Rosenfels as their quarterback and he isn’t too bad. They drafted Percy Harvin and he is very quick and will be on the side opposite of Bernard Berrian. Then of course, you throw in one of the best running backs in football in Adrian Peterson. That offense is scary.
With the Packers, Aaron Rodgers is probably going to have a big year. He is healthy and ready to go. Their defense is better with the drafting of B.J. Raji and A.J. Hawk is still there. With their defense changing forms from a 4-3 to a 3-4 may make things more difficult however. The Lions will be better with Matthew Stafford and a new coach so they shouldn’t be overlooked either.
The Bears play their first preseason game this Saturday against the Bills. I will be taping the game since I am going to be out of town for a wedding so if I do a recap, it won’t be until Monday.

After the four game debacle in Colorado which dropped the Cubs three games behind the Cardinals, not even a trip to the land of Oz will help this team. The three things that are missing have already been taken by the scarecrow (brain), cowardly lion (courage), and the tin man (heart). Not even the ruby red slippers were available. The only thing left were rose colored glasses for the sheeple.
The six game homestand gets off to a rough start with three against the Phillies. They have been slipping lately losing 8 of 11. But they can heat back up at any time. Taking 2 of 3 would be good, but I don’t expect it. At least they will have the Pirates to kick around over the weekend. If they don’t get their shit together soon, they’ll be out of it by September.

The product of professional wrestling as a whole has been real shitty ever since 2002. At the time, TNA wrestling was just up and running, the WWF was forced to be renamed “WWE” (Thanks World Wildlife Fund…Assholes) and the brand extension was coming into affect at the time with RAW and Smackdown! having separate rosters. In the last seven years, there have been some bright moments but not enough to get some of the fans back into the swing of things.
Recently, I have been watching a lot of old wrestling tapes that I have had since 1998. Watching those videos made me realize that the good old days are long gone. I watch wrestling these days and seeing how bad it is, I’ve realized that I have been taking the old days for granted. Maybe it is because I am older now that I have become a fan that appreciates a good wrestling match. In addition to that, I tend more to root for someone who can actually wrestle and do a promo well than root for the good guy over the bad guy.
Here is my take on both TNA and WWE:
TNA – Sucks (Sorry Robert). No future stars. Samoa Joe is a joke. The superstars are old and past their prime and the young guys just don’t have what it takes to make it big. I don’t watch TNA as much as I do WWE but from what I’ve seen, it just doesn’t seem great. The only stars making it in the main event are the cast offs like Kurt Angle, Booker T, Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Sting. Now, all of those guys were great especially Kurt Angle. You can make an argument that Angle is one of the best wrestlers ever. That being said, they have to pass the torch. I respect the fact that they still want to be there and that is fine but don’t take up the young prospect’s potential by being a main event hog.
WWE – As much as I cannot stand Triple H, John Cena and Randy Orton (Needs a pair of pants) week in and week out, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. There was a discussion forum on Wrestlezone.com about a month ago and in there were fan’s projections for the next couple years of who could be in the main event. The three wrestler’s that I think can be the top stars in the next couple of years are Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne and Dolph Ziggler.
All three guys have what it takes to be champion. Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler were both amateur wrestlers. Swagger is a tough, young kid who is willing to learn and wants to be there. He also has the ability and athleticism similiar to another great amateur and pro wrestler named Kurt Angle. For his size, he is still a very fast athlete in the ring. Ziggler reminds most of a young Mr. Perfect. He is smooth, cocky and good on the mic like Swagger. Unlike Swagger though, he isn’t as quick.
Evan Bourne is a high flyer. He style is similar to Rey Mysterio. Both of those guys are proof that you don’t have have to be 6’6 and 220 to be the top guy. For his size, he can still wrestle with the best. He is the most athletic out of the three. He is very quick. I don’t think I’ve seen him cut a promo on the mic in quite a while so that might be one thing holding him back. Good thing for Bourne is that he has time to work on it. Once he gets his promo work up and running, his full potential will be recognized. When his music hits though, the crowd jumps to their feet.
There was one other wrestler who was mentioned but in my opinion sucks. He is John Morrison. I think he is a good wrestler. However, his mic work sucks badly and he needs a new pair of pants. Oh, I forgot. His mic work sucks and he needs new pants. Did I mention his pants look like one a ferry would wear? What a turd.

Last year on August 1st, this site was started. This should have been written a couple days back but I don’t get around here much often anymore. So I want to say happy belated birthday to this site. And if you are counting the years at the old website, this place is about four years old.
In the one year this site has been around, there have been over 50,000 hits. On a couple of those days, the hits reached about a 1,000. If you type in “Fire Jim Hendry” in Yahoo’s search, this site is the first one that comes up. I am glad that this place is being noticed other than the three people that read it. 😉
I want to thank everybody who contributes to this site. I also want to thank Keith for taking some time out of his day to help out here.
If it isn’t for any of you guys coming here on an almost daily basis, this place isn’t up and running. This is your site as well.

I can’t seem to mention his name without having a middle name. I never liked this guy from the first pitch he threw in a Cub uniform. There was no movement on his fastball, and I knew he was gonna get crushed. I was right.
Hendry should be kicked in the fucking ass for not bringing in Hoffman when he was available. This team would have been better off if Hendry didn’t do a fucking thing in the off-season. Everything he touched turned to shit. There’s Miles, Gathright, Freel, and of course, Bradley. And trading for Kevin “Fucking” Gregg sums up Hendrys efforts to improve a 97 win team.
The Cubs have completed a 6-1 homestand with an impressive win on Thursday by dispensing the Astros out of Chicago.
The Cubs head off to Florida to take on the Marlins to begin a 10 game road trip that includes stops in Cincinatti and Colorado. By the end of this trip, we should have a much better idea as to what this Cub team is all about. I would be satisfied with 5-5 on this trip.
