Doug Buffone was the man.

Well, this isn’t what I was expecting on a cold and cloudy Monday afternoon. Right before this, I changed the channel at work to Comcast SportsNet for the Bulls pregame stuff. Instead, I see the news of former Bear and Bears Post Game host on The Score, Doug Buffone, passing away. He was 70.

For years (I think the last ten), myself along with many others, have listened to him and Ed O’Bradovich after Bears’ games on The Score. As it went most of the time, Doug and O.B. were absolutely pissed. While entertaining at times, it was really them expressing themselves. That’s what I loved. Friday mornings during football season, Buffone would be on Mully and Hanley with his “Pick 5 with 55” segment that was very entertaining at times.

Doug Buffone was a Bears fan. Him and O’Bradovich wanting the Bears to win more than any of us. That’s what I loved about him. I’ve been fortunate enough to talk to him on The Score throughout the years. The last time I called was on Thanksgiving to vent my frustrations about the team after their less-than-stellar performance against the Lions. I am glad we always agreed on how awful things were. I will miss calling that show without him. I called his show, as well as the station so many times throughout the years, I felt like we were friends.  In college, he had a show called “Chicago NFL Live” almost every weeknight and because I was always at the restaurant working nights, I listened to that show religiously.

This day feels just like the day we lost Ron Santo. Part of my childhood went away that day almost five years ago.

Today, I felt like part of my early adulthood left the world. This isn’t fun.

Message to NBC: Get rid of Kenny Albert

April 17, 2015 by

albert-300x400

I am so sick of hearing this fucking dweeb. We’ve had to deal with Kenny Albert calling games for Fox over the last decade and change and now, NBC has pissed me off the last two NHL seasons with this dip shit.

I call Kenny Albert the new kiss of death to Chicago sports. I am aware that the Bears have sucked over the last decade (make that two decades), but it was him who called a lot of those games. Last year, it was his fucking voice that made the Blackhawks loss in the Western Conference Final more painful. Before him, it was Dick Stockton, who was the original kiss of death with Chicago sports. I am shitting myself if he ends up calling more games with the Blackhawks in them. He called one for the Blackhawks and Blues about a month ago and go figure, the Blackhawks lost.

Why does NBC not find better announcers (John Forsuland, Rick Peckham) than this asshole? He is already the radio play-by-play guy for the Rangers. Let him stick to that. Quit putting him on television.

Kenny Albert fucking sucks and is just a shell of his dad was and still is.

Fuck you, Kenny Albert. In the words of Mad City Mac, fuck him with a rusty fence post.

Playoff hockey is here

April 13, 2015 by

The Blackhawks play Wednesday against the Predators in the first round. They are going in losing their last four games of the regular season. Of course, when it comes to the playoffs, it’s a new season, so to speak. I think it’s okay to worry a bit about it. A week ago, they had a chance to win the division and instead, scored only five goals in all four of those losses.

Overall, though, the Blackhawks have held their own. The team played .500 from the middle of December until the end of January. Rumors became a big deal in the media with crap that happened last year such as fights, affairs and players not liking each other. Right after that, the Blackhawks started kicking ass. I think that’s a sign of a coach who actually can control a team when criticism is present. I know Quenneville gets some shit (mainly for playing Michal Rozsival) but he has two Cups and gets the most out of his players. The sky seemed to fall after Patrick Kane’s injury but actually played better up until last week. He could come back in this series. He’s already skating with the team and has been cleared for contact.

It’s never easy in the playoffs, but the Blackhawks are ready.

Tornado relief

April 13, 2015 by

Usually, what we post on here is usually us complaining about a bunch of overpaid human beings playing kids’ games. But I am taking a break this time around. As most of you may know, there were two bad tornadoes near us in Illinois. One hit my hometown of Rochelle and the other one just north of me in the county (both were about 15-20 minutes from me). A few people I grew up with had their homes destroyed.

Whatever you have to give for donations, such as food or clothes, you all you can go to your nearest Red Cross or Salvation Army. You can also go to the Red Cross website, http://www.redcross.org. It would be helpful.

The Bulls have done it again!

April 9, 2015 by

Well, this season just keeps on getting more entertaining. The Bulls, once again, blew a 15-plus point lead to another team below .500 for the hundredth time this season. Anybody else annoyed?

This time, it was the Magic. This also adds to the 15-plus point leads blown leads against the Bucks, Hornets, Pistons and I believe, the Pacers. Don’t forget, they got their ass kicked against the almighty Super Lakers.

And if you’re wondering, yes, the Bulls missed a shitload of free throws and had 17 turnovers in this game against the Magic.

The Bulls play another sub-.500 team tonight, the Miami Heat.

Just three more weeks of this shit until the Bulls bow down to the hapless Milwaukee Bucks or Washington Wizards in the first round. ThomASS will finally be fired. Three. More. Weeks.

OPENING NIGHT, 2015. (it’s only one game….)

April 6, 2015 by

cubs-cardinals-opening-night-preview     Well, it wasn’t a great way to start the 2015 season, right? But it’s only one game…trying to be optimistic, after all these years. I think the Cubs are headed in a better direction. That said, what do I know? Your guess is as good as mine. Thoughts?     (…tick tock…tick tock…tick tock)

The Chicago Bears: One step forward, two steps back.

April 4, 2015 by

I am aware that I am a bit late to this, but I have been playing catch up all week. As I was ready to leave, I heard that the Bears signed former 49ers linebacker, Ray McDonald.

Let’s forget the fact that Raypist McDonald is 30 years old. Let’s forget the fact that Raypist McDonald isn’t really that great of a football player. But, how the whole process went down disgusts me big time.

When the Bears finally got a new regime in place, optimism is what I always seek. I tend to write about how exciting things are and how much better it will be.

Instead, Raypist McDonald flies to Chicago on his own dime and that somehow, impresses George McCaskey so much, that they decide to assurance from Raypist McDonald’s parents, that Raypist is a changed man. Really? What the fuck is this shit? When you hear about this, you would think that the Bears’ organization is the fifth grade school teacher and Raypist is the student who is in trouble for not doing his homework. “Okay. I am going to call your parents to make sure you’re doing your homework”.

And here we are again with this franchise. I would think George McCaskey actually gives a fuck about this team and wouldn’t want to bring in a distraction after getting rid of another one in Brandon Marshall. There wasn’t any other linebacker who knows a 3-4 defense that was available out there? Really? And let’s not forget, the draft hasn’t even arrived yet. Why not draft someone eight years younger and just as cheap, if not cheaper?

Raypist McDonald is not only a criminal, but he’s a piece of shit as a human being. I can deal with a criminal who smokes weed or whatever, but for a person who not only beats up women (what a tough guy!) as well as following the Bill Cosby route in his last incident, there shouldn’t be a spot for him on any time. The Bears don’t need this moron.

And the callers on The Score that same day saying that he wasn’t ever found guilty? What a bunch of fucking idiots. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Three separate incidents, if I am correct? Guilty.

The Bears make me embarrassed. And you should be too.

Back in town.

Friday

I arrived back late Tuesday night. Wrestlemania was a blast. I met up with some friends there and met new ones as well. I even had a chance to hang out with Vince Russo (yes, that Vince Russo) and talked wrestling with him.

A special thanks goes out Peter and Trisha at Rookies in San Jose for hosting us. In addition, I want to say thanks to our friends, Justin LaBar, Josh Isenberg and Brian Gulish at Wrestlezone.com for organizing the whole thing and getting Vince Russo to come by. It was a lot of fun.

Also, a shoutout go out to my guys, Ethian and Jean Francouis from Montreal. J.F and I met last year at Wrestlezone’s party in New Orleans.

I have a million things to catch up on at home. I have a thing to write about in the next day or two that includes an article as to why the Bears decided to be fucking idiots by signing a rapist in Ray McDonald. The Chicago Bears: One step forward, two steps back.

Until then, here are some photos from the weekend. Click to enlarge.

The folks over at the Chicago Bears Network are pretty stoked for this. Their own Lyndsay Petruny, beat Erin Kennedy by a final score of 32-14. Lyndsay Petruny becomes the second woman to win this award (Cheryl Scott being the first in 2013).

And no worries, we all still love Erin. A big shout out goes to her.

Lyndsay, I would like to present to you, the 2015 Larry Horse Award, which goes to the most beautiful woman in Chicago television. Looks nice, doesn’t it?
